"Let me make it crystal clear--as crystal clear as I know how. I apologize to no one..."

In which John Kerry demonstrates a shocking ignorance of the appropriate conduct when you find yourself in a hole

Senator John Kerry (D-EU) called a press conference today in an attempt to explain why he said that the all-volunteer US Armed Forces active in Iraq are made up of individuals who were not bright enough or sufficiently educated to evade military service to our country.

Here's what Senator Kerry might have said if the remarks were, as he is now suggesting, a "botched joke" aimed at President Bush:

In a speech last night, I mis-spoke and implied that our armed forces are not the best and the brightest. It was an error, and nothing could be further from the truth. I respect, admire and support each and every enlisted man and woman deployed in Iraq, and I apologize personally to them for my mistake.

But no. This would be to admit error, and we all know that while John Forbes Kerry is many things, he is never, ever wrong. This is what Mr. Kerry actually said this afternoon, in a more rambling and deranged reprise of the rant released by his office earlier today (you'll note he manages to sneak in the Iraq-is-Vietnam cliche that apparently slipped the mind of the genius who wrote the release):

Read on...

And so you see, as always, it's all about John Kerry. We should judge him on what he meant to say, not what he did say in that speech. To hold him responsible for his own words is utterly unfair. It's a dirty, underhanded and cowardly trick. Really, Mr. Kerry is the victim here, not the troops he maligned, wittingly or not (it does not seem that he corrected himself last night). Actually, those troops are victims too, but not at Mr. Kerry's hands. They're being victimized by the real idiot who didn't study or work hard at college, George W. Bush. And Mr. Kerry isn't going to take it any more...

How long do you think it will be until Howard Dean or Chuck Schumer grab the shovel with which Senator Kerry is so assiduously digging the grave of Democrat hopes for taking the majority in congress and bash him over the head with it? I for one hope they take their sweet time.

Oh, and just for the record, Mr. Kerry, if you want to give a speech "supporting the troops," this is how that idiot does it. This approach seems to work a little better.

There is little surprise here though. He, and those of his party expect apologies from the right for everything from melting ice caps to hunger in Africa...they apologize to no one.

Give me a Dem in recent memory...NO?

I couldn't think of one either.

Oh well, buh bye John...you'll get no shot at Commander in Chief again...nice job.

for anything which merits an apology.

But that was Clinton - a gross manipulator of sentiment, and a perverter of history. He liked to apologize only for our virtues.

...GET OUT OF HIS WAY!

And I’d like to personally thank the good Senator for his words, both the original and the ‘clarification.’ It is my hope that with Sen. Kerry’s help he not only tilted this election toward us, but also shot down his own campaign in ’08.

THANKS JOHN!

Where Perot and his running mate are in a car and Perot ditches him on the side of the road. Then you see the Veep (forgot his name) candidate chasing after him?

I can envision such a skit where kerry is chasing after a panicked Hillary* offering an "endorsement".

* any D would work but Ms. Rodham would be excellent for the part.

A winner of several Silver Stars and of the Medal of Honor. Was a POW even longer than McCain was. Compare his service in Vietnam with John Kerry's, and Kerry isn't even qualified to wipe Stockdale's behind. I mean, you just want to laugh out loud whenever Kerry says he's a combat veteran.

If I recall the SNL skit correctly, Perot tries to dump Stockdale out of his car, and the Admiral catches up to him every time saying, "Hey, where'd you go?" And finally Perot just says (in a line that nicely captures the spirit of America's military people): "Ah hell, never try to ditch a Marine."

I almost can't believe that he's going this far. Not only did he make the statement he just can't stop deflecting the blame. Let him keep going. The farther John Kerry goes in making these statements the more he's digging his own grave, and the grave of the Democratic party, politically speaking.

If I were still a Democrat, I'd have a lot of sympathy for how badly their Big Man has totally screwed the Party. Unbelievable meltdown. He just drove the Donks to China.

Why not let him lose another?

You go, John!

What is really sad is this is how the Democrats feel about our troops and the U.S. military, and it is truly disgusting.

He Mr Heinz er Kerry is an ASS & so are 99% of the Dumocrats!!!!!

Everything John Kerry has expressed, in both of his statements that we've heard, is the official liberal academic position not just on this President but also on the war, dating back to 2003. I sat in the living room of the former Dean of DePaul University College of Law, back before she died, and suggested to her that I wanted to volunteer for the Army Reserves. Her exact response, and I remember it to this day, was:

"Don't do it. You'll just be sent to Iraq and fight George Bush's war. It's stupid."

That's an actual quote, I was there, in her living room, on Roscoe street in Chicago, asking her what she thought.

When the war was in the planning stages, she was adamant that any effort on the part of the United States was nothing but an oil-grab and a sop to the "military industrial complex" and that view was expressed in internal emails to me. There is absolutely nothing new in John Kerry's exegesis of Iraq except that now he's also attacking and belittling the troops themselves. All of the stuff he says in that video clip is at least three years old in academic circles.

very liberal overall (including student and faculty)?

I would have thought it would be somewhat balanced, even if tilting liberal, given the school's Catholic heritage...

"During my lifetime, all our problems have come from mainland Europe, and all the solutions from the English-speaking nations across the world." - Thatcher

If you consider the balance point to be somewhere between Edward Said and Kofi Annan on international politics, or Arthur Schlesinger, Jr. and John Kenneth Galbraith on domestic policy and economics, and somewhere between Michel Focault, Derrick Bell, Andrea Dworkin, and Michael Eric Dyson on interpersonal relationships in a post-capitalist economy.

It's a Lefty Free Fire Zone. With a few very quiet exceptions, who are in the minority bigtime. Farily characteristic of lots of large Catholic/Christian institutions these days, sadly. You know something is wrong when on a diversity survey of the faculty PriceWaterhouseCoopers deliberately leaves out the category of "Atheist/Agnostic" because it would be too embarrassing.

I'll contact you later about it.

...on just about everything he has ever taken a stand on in the last 35 years.

I swung by CNN earlier and thier front page article was on Kerry titled get this

=Kerry, GOP go to war over "stuck in Iraq" comment=

Now to the laymen reading that title would you think Kerry & GOP were warring over the fact Kerry told a bunch of colledge kids that if they didn't study hard and do thier homework they would get stuck in Iraq. The impression not knowing better that title leaves is that Kerry just gave the normal "Iraq critisism" not something entirely different.

But anyway I got a PDF of that page if you want a copy ping me a email I can send it to.

before I threw up a smoke screen.

This statement came at the end of a litany of anti Bush jokes and the more it gets out about what REALLY happened the clearer its going to be that the white house is lying about what Kerry meant. The longer they harp on it the more pathetic the GOP is going to look for trying to blow this up into Monica gate. Kerrys not going to back down in the face of retarded critics and the Republican party is going to choke on this.

You are unbelievable.

We've already seen the press release, thanks. A miracle that he didn't start asking questions about the 9/11 Israelis...

you are making fun of a man who obviously speaks in tones that are too high in the frequency range for your average conservative to hear.

We need these liberal outlanders to interpret.

I did vote for (ugh) Bush "ONCE"
My question is. How care The non contenders win, when there is no pres. election? Also, Why do reporters and Bloggers such as Mike Stark be literally be throw out of a "red" states press. This seems to be very interesting to me. My state is RED untill now. So I now can say THANK YOU GOD! Maybe we have a fighting chance now.

Which, by the way, has been less than trendy for at least two years.

Blam.

That all you're doing is making it worse for yourselves? I realize that it's difficult for you to surface and live up on the Outer Crust after having been exposed to the Democratic Underground Rapture of the Deep, but don't you think you should at least take a little time to decompress before you wander on over here just so we can blast you with a double-barreled shotgun?

And I think it must be the worst post ever in the history of the internet.

I guess I'll come back tomorrow when there's more election stuff going on.

Dont' get me wrong: I'm glad people are hyping this, but this is a LOT of Kerry on the front page. Good thing there's some basketball on tonight, since I really don't have much to say about Kerry.

Starring John Kerry, our war hero, praising the intelligence and fortitude of our magnificent troops. Roll the cameras.....

they will put an ad together featuring this bonehead remark. This was a tailor-made gift for us, but the powers-that-be have to take advantage of it and make it last beyond one news cycle.

John hindreaker at PowerLine has an interesting take on Kerry's original remark and why it may fit precisely with the character of the left

The stereotype of the poor, dumb soldier is firmly entrenched among liberals of the Vietnam era. We often see it repeated by younger liberals today, even though the stereotype has no application whatever to our current volunteer army, which is demonstrably equal, at least, to the civilian population in talent and accomplishment.

Why are liberals so determined to hang on to these discredited stereotypes of the past? I suspect it is because the young men and women who serve in the armed forces are a constant reproach to liberals' facile, politically-motivated pronouncements on foreign policy. Iraq is a disaster (never mind that I voted for it)! But the young men and women who are stationed there don't think so. They re-enlist in remarkable numbers; a large majority beieve in their mission; and they are working hard, risking their lives, and making considerable progress on many fronts. So it's helpful for liberals to think: what do they know? They're only soldiers--they must be dumb!

Read the whole thing, its worth the time.
