The newspaper headline declaring that Taft would restore faith in public office.
But what the heck is with a campaign ad that runs over two minutes?! When and where are they running this thing?!
and DeWine will win re-election.
This is devastating, but it needs to be condensed to 30 seconds, and they can get rid of the reference to Taft.
As for those who say DeWine isn't conservative enough, consider the alternative. We can't afford a pot-smoking extortionist from Ohio in the Senate.
The bad news: Conservatism is hard to sell. The good news is that it works.
We all knew that. But now he's running to replace DeWine in the Senate. I guess when the moon is in the seventh house, and Jupiter aligns with Mars, someone should vote for Sherrod Brown. At least because he's proven his ability to use his short-term memory to recapitulate a set of Democrat talking points while being defensive about his own record.
When are the boomers who sneak a toke outside their houses going to realize that they're just hurting everyone in the country?
In the meantime, I give you: Mr. T. goes for a drive. He's not Mr. SB, but it's pretty close. He wants to be a hippie, and he wants to get stoned, but at the very least he's never tried to be a Senator.
It's a shame Mr. Brown is up against Senator DeWine. If a credible conservative were up against Brown, he could do some hammering! If Brown wins, he'll revive the Howard Metzenbaum tradition.
Unfortunately, DeWine is not very impressive, nor is he someone who generates much enthusiasm from anyone on the right. Weak, weak, weak.
Sometimes conservatives have to do the right thing, even if they emotionally don't feel very charged up about it.
In fact, isn't that the smart way to live life? Who in the hell promised us that everything that we should do would feel great?
Bottom line: conservatives and Republicans have to turn out for DeWine on election day...period. It's the right thing to do...it's the responsible thing to do...and isn't that what conservatism ultimately is all about?
that it is the responsible thing to do. Conservatives should be exactly that, conservative. That means things like small government and not enacting law just to say you did something (see medicare reform). The funny thing is, I actually think a purge will work to our favor. The democrats gaining the house (and maybe the senate) would force Bush to use his veto pen and it would also lead to more conservatives being put up for election in 2008. Also, it would serve to remind people that the democrats really do not represent them at all. Read kos, they actually think if they win it is because people want democratic leadership....wrong, people are just sick of corrupt and non-conservative republicans. This party needs a purge of the ranks and I am sorry, but the primary system ain't gonna cut it.
...is somebody who makes Dennis Kucinich seem reasonable, what then? If we had significant qualms about DeWine, we should've dealt with it through a primary challenge, not by handing a Senate seat over to a Bernie Sanders clone.
"I could explain, but that would be very long, very convoluted, and make you look very stupid. Nobody wants that... except maybe me."
I actually like DeWine somewhat. Too bad he's stooping to mudslinging attack ads.
"There are those who look at things the way they are, and ask why... I dream of things that never were and ask why not." George Bernard Shaw
1. That something in the advert is not true?
2. That the negative side of a candidate's record should remain hidden?
3. That candidates should not reveal the negative side of a rival candidate, but rely on everyone to be open, and reveal their own negative side?
If it is 1, more details please. If it is 2, you plainly have contempt for the electorate. If it is 3, you are living in a very strange world and I advise you to let reality pop by for a visit.

This is a great ad and I hope it's edited into TV spots. I think it's something that can keep the viewer's attention and eventually move the polls in a favorable direction.
As for those who remain unhappy about DeWine not being a conservative, what is your alternative? I'm a conservative from Kentucky and I'm not happy with everything he's done, but highmindedness will lead to nothing but defeat.
Sitting on your hands does no one any good but the Democrats. Is that what you really want? I know I don't want a down the line liberal who votes to investigate the president, raise taxes, filibuster judges, oppose terrorist eavesdropping, and defund our soldiers in Iraq. If that's principle, then I have none.
It's wonderful to be a dedicated conservative, but that got us no where in the 1960's and 1970's. At least with Republicans like DeWine, we have an opportunity to work on our important issues. With the Democrats, we get nothing but headaches and years in the minority.
"So, in your discussions of the nuclear freeze proposals, I urge you to beware the temptation of pride - the temptation of blithely declaring yourselves above it all and label both sides equally at fault, to ignore the facts of history and the aggressive impulses of an evil empire, to simply call the arms race a giant misunderstanding and thereby remove yourself from the struggle between right and wrong and good and evil."
I think the temptation of pride is great in a lot of areas, not just the struggle against evil empires. Although certainly in this race, it also applies in that context as well. The dem party aids and abets the evil enemies of this country. dems like Brown see the USA as the problem in the world.

"Within the covers of the Bible are the answers for all the problems men face." - Ronald Reagan

That is hillarious. Too bad it cannot be condensed into a TV commercial.
