wow, that's devastating.

Just as every cop is a criminal, and all the sinners saints - Sympathy for the Democrats

or are these more of the silly "Internet" ads that are seen by 2% of the population of we're lucky. If this is out in public and New Mexicans actually vote for Madrid they deserve anything they get.

J, I think in truth that if we had a good look at all the political candidates from both parties and enough time to think about them, we might just decide that it would be better to be a Monarchy again. I'm only half-joking.

you may be more than half right :-)

by Erick is. The good people of NM 1 are seeing plenty of it. Let's say I wouldn't be shocked if a small portion the second was up by the end of the week.

The whole summer portion of this race was Wilson beating the heck out of Madrid for shady things she did as AG. Wilson started losing ground when the focus shifted to Iraq in September/early October. Novak said she's coming back in his column today.

This "access" line ties in nicely with that earlier theme, for a solid close.

...these were going to be ads going up on the air. Since this second one didn't have an "I'm Heather Wilson and I approve this ad" disclaimer, I take it that this isn't one of them. But the one in the previous thread is an actual ad that Heather Wilson is going up with.

Novak described Madrid's performance in the debate as dismal, but I HAD NO IDEA!!!

Perhaps some eager prosecutor could bring charges based on her own words.

election? Was there any sort of screening process?

Was she coached at all before this debate?

It's hard to fathom something like her being a Congressional nominee to a major party. I'm not familiar with Wilson's district. Was Madrid originally going to a be a sort of sacrificial lamb, a Democrat just to have a warm body attached to a name attached to the D on the ballot?

I know I've seen only two clips, but that seems insane.

She's the state Attorney General. One of the Dems top recruits this cycle. It's a Democratic district (Kerry won it) and Wilson gets a tough race every cycle.

Madrid has been ahead for most of the last month, but the gap has been closing, and this can only help.

is the moron or two in the audience who booed Wilson's comment.

Maybe Kerry's people can write an apology for Madrid that goes something like "I apologize if my comment saying that large donations gave access to me were misinterpreted to imply that it takes large donations to get access to me."

"Hey Madrid... I want my money back!"

That's what someone from the peanut gallery should have said. The place would have lit up!

Was that 'lobbyists are a part of govt.' That is flat incorrect, and anyone who thinks otherwise has no business in govt. Lobbyists are promoters of interest groups. They can approach the govt. like any other group, and they can do things within the law.
But they are not a part of the govt.
that as weird.
I hope the woman loses.
The Republican sounds really strong. Is there a link to give her some $?

with their own words when a picture is worth a thousand such? The similarities are striking.

Why should BIG Oil buy "access" to Ms. Wilson when they have effectively bought her vote?

Big Bucks -- from Oil Companies -- More Big Bucks -- And another Energy Company -- And Another -- And Another

You can find them all on This rather impressive list of donors to Ms. Wilson. It seems she only grants access to donors from out of state (like all of these oil Companies).

More than anything, though, Ms. Wilson suffers from Foleyosis. And this didn't help her condition.

takes my breathe away...almost like Madrid trying to explain away how she is going to raise taxes.

[Ever notice that people always seem to assume that you most care about the things that they most care about? Why is that? - Moe Lane]

Was it the picture of Wilson or the one of Abu Abdullah that hurt your feelings? I don't really believe that he ever promised them the ports deal anyways (all handholding aside).

And if you doubt the efficacy of the Energy Co. contributions to the Wilson campaign, make your case. I know it's always easier to ban debate; but that is ever so lame. Are you up to the challenge?

Didn't think so.

Why do these people think they are helping their cause ?

I'm wondering if y'all have an accumulated list of the unlamented recent departures and could perhaps post said list in RedHot or something - that could make for some interesting reading and a PSA to would-be lurkers here on how NOT to spend very long soiling the carpets and such.

Just asking.

How was this woman elected Attorney General in ANY state?

Or was she appointed?

Terrifying, no?

More frightening that she might actually win this race.

Is that right? This woman is taking money for access to her office for lobbyists to peddle influence? I can not believe I just saw that. She makes John Kerry look smart by comparison.

1) Yes, you saw that right.
2) That woman is the elected Attorney General for the State of New Mexico, and
3) A plate of cheese nachos couldn't make Kerry look smart by comparison

But also bear in mind that Madrid was thought to be cruising to a 10+ point win over the 4-term incumbent Wilson in this race until this point - and that she still might win.

This is your brain on BDS...
Any questions?

Kerry on the boogie board in his speedo was bad enough - but Kerry and Madrid in the buff?

Ugh - another painful visual that needs purging - now I need to go get the wire brush and lye soap, again.

Darn you.
