MT Senatorial: Obama to raise funds for Tester in San Fran

Montana Democrat joins book tour

Democrat John Tester, leading Republican Senator Conrad Burns by only three points in Montana, is about to get serious about this, to enlist the temporary Dem demigod.

The Billings Gazette reports:

Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., will raise money for Democratic Senate candidate Jon Tester in San Francisco Wednesday.

The big story to the Montana paper is, of course, Obama. (A close Senate race is secondary to a Superstar.)

Adulates the Gazette:

Obama, a freshman senator elected in 2004, made headlines Sunday when he acknowledged he is considering a run for president in 2008. He said he would not make a decision until after the Nov. 7 elections.

The Democrat was largely unknown outside Illinois when he burst onto the national scene with a widely acclaimed address at the 2004 Democratic National Convention.

In recent weeks, his political stock has been rising as a potentially viable centrist candidate for president in 2008 after former Virginia Gov. Mark Warner announced earlier this month that he was bowing out of the race.

In a recent issue of Time magazine, Obama's face fills the cover next to the headline, "Why Barack Obama Could Be The Next President." He will be in San Francisco promoting his latest book, "The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream."

So, Montanans, the man who would be your Senator, John Tester, will be in San Francisco Wednesday with Barack Obama, superstar, for a Chuckie Schumer orchestrated Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) event. This is a win-win situation for all involved: Tester gets some much-needed campaign cash, Chuckie and the DSCC don't have to borrow as much money as earlier this month, and Obama gets to further hawk his book.

If Burns continues to close, and he will, perhaps a then-testy Tester can bring Barack to Butte.

I can't imagine that the Montana voters are going to be overly thrilled that their candidate chooses to campaign in San Francisco than in Montana.

"I'm from Montana... not San Francisco. My opponent seems want to work for California and Illinois and New York. I want to work for Montana."

"Took the nickname Troll long before BlogTrolls existed..."

there isn't enough money in Montana on which to waste an Obama collection effort? Or maybe Butte just isn't as chic as the City by the Bay for Obama to spend his time? Or maybe the Dem's rising star Obama thinks the Fog City Diner is just more tony than Helena's Bullwinkles Saloon?

Too bad Montana, Obama's been on Oprah and you are no Oprah.

Let's send a very good Senator back to serve the people of Monatana another 6 years.

Burns has a shot and a donation to him is the smart way to go.

That you all can spare a few bucks for Conrad Burns. He's a great Senator.

Here I was, blissfully ignorant, believing that every Republican candidate was perfect, as pure as the morning dew, and you revealed that my beloved Mr. Burns has actually engaged in this disgusting behavior.

Next thing, you'll be telling me that his second counsin once had something nice to say about Mary Cheney.

Honestly, is this the best you can do?
