Rush Limbaugh, a short while ago, took issue with this piece and expressed exactly what I feel. When is the last time you ever heard Democrats say, "Oh well, we expect to be wiped out"? Answer? You don't. They fight till the bitter end. Of course, they lie too, but still! Why is the GOP already leaking, blaming, and running away? That's weak. We need to go on offense.
And while the Republicans, like rats on a sinking ship, are starting to flee, they've left behind a mess of a message. Hastert is on TV talking Foley, keeping that story alive, while the President is trying to remind people why voting Republican matters this year more than most.
So, here's the contest. You have 24 hours. Leave a comment in this post. The topic: Why you should vote Republican in 2006. It should be 100 words or less. The front page contributors will help me pick the best statement of why people should vote Republican in 2006. And, I'll buy the winner a one year subscription to the Limbaugh Letter.

I vote republican because I want a leader in power who is so blind that he thinks gay marriage should be illegal. That gays should be discriminated against and ostracized. A leader who learned nothing from segregation and the civil rights movement.

Homosexuality has nothing to do with race. It's much more like religion. That's how you should be arguing it. Trying to appeal to the civil rights movement cheapens that movement and does not advance your cause.

That statement alone shows the arrogance of the Republican mind. Because it's not a race, they can be punished in any way. It's terrifyingly ignorant. Even though it was an obvious attempt to wag the dog, I never faulted clinton for firing cruise missiles at what turned out to be an aspirin factory. Yes the timing was more a political act than application of statecraft but it was still an act meant to improve the world.

He said what he THOUGHT was right at the time. The same thing MOST of the smart people in the world THOUGHT at the time. If you say what you believe, it isn't a lie. It is only a lie if you KNOW it isn't true WHEN YOU SAY IT. Also, please do not say "He should have known." Maybe so, but he did not. Or this one: "He was briefed." He is given breifings, sometimes conflicting breifings, ALL THE TIME. No one can reconcile all of that info that quickly.

That's what I meant when I said "guessed". President Bush is a "feeler" in the Meyers-Briggs personality sense. He doesn't always have a logical explanation for position, but rather digests all of the information coming to him and makes a call.
And that's what a President has to do. He can't memorize all the minutae thrown at him and reduce it all to logical forms. He has to listen, read, think, and then just decide.

There are many public examples of people giving up homosexuality; of people taking it up after years of heterosexuality; and of people who have abstained from sex rather than pursue what they considered an immoral activity.
There are no such examples of people giving up their skin color, adopting a new skin color, or abstaining from having a skin color they consider immoral.

(IE: they are BORN that way) We conservatives say that it is a life choice and they are genetically no different than you or I. As for Republicans being uneducated -- the data I've seen shows the more educated one is the more likely they are to vote Republican up to the point of Phd. The Phd crowd breaks back towards the Democrats, but that is probably the those living on the federal government more likely to vote Democrat variable taking more weight.
The Democrats have always had the high school drop out vote. Nothing has changed there.
EVEN...EVEN if it's a choice and a religion, do we as Americans not have the right to practice our religion freely? Do we not have the right of equal protection under the law? Do we not have the freedom of association?
I just haven't figured out why homosexuality is such a big deal? I can assure you that gay people want nothing to do with most of you, so why do you care so much?

Define economic growth. Shrinking middle class, lower real wages, outsourced manufacturing work, higher poverty roles, and high stock values that do not translate to actual wealth for the majority?
Lower taxes for who? I suggest you check out the ENTIRE tax burden for the middle class and below and be sure to add state taxes and fees, consumption taxes and the like. Once you do that, I think the lie of lower taxes will be evident. Let's also not forget the utility of money. You, the typical 50k a year millionaire Republican, is hurt more by taxes than a true millionaire even if he pays 4 times what you pay.
Reduced regulation. Yeah, that's worked so well. Ask a few mine workers about that. It certainly has kept our car manufacturers and airlines in the black!
Personally, I hope the GOP retains control so when this house of cards built upon empty language and emotional rhetoric comes tumbling down, there will be no one to blame but those in charge.

I will vote Republican because I want to see my country stay strong, safe, and successful.

The fact that you don't know what function a "director" of a corporation has in the sales process indicates you'll be much more at home posting with other high school kiddies. When Rumsfeld left the private sector to move to DoD he was pretty much retired and served on a lot of boards.
Considering the sale of said light water reactors was part of the Agreed Framework and licensed by the NRC I really find it hard to get upset over this.

- offer drug-free solutions to Iraq (i.e. no hallucination that "we need more troops but let's pull out the ones we have"
As we approach the elections, there are reasons to vote to keep the GOP congress.
o Re-elect the GOP to control the House of Representatives and you will be voting to control the border and to make sure that our troops have the funds that they need to fight the War on Terror and the War in Iraq.
o Re-elect the GOP to control the Senate and you will be voting for judges who will interpret the law instead of creating their own version of the law.
Sitting out the election is a half-vote for the Democrats.
America needs you to stay strong as a country.

1. We need to maintain a level head and steady pressure in the War against Radical Islam.
2. We need to maintain a tax environment that will grow our economy faster than we can implement new spending.
3. We need to be able to get confirmed Supreme and District Court judges that will not legislate from the bench.
4. We need to allow President enough breathing room, free of nuisance subpoenas and hearings, to meet the unknown challenges that will arise these next two years.
This November, there is only one party that can give America these things, and that party is the GOP.
Republican politicians understand liberty; they understand freedom, limited government and low taxes which enable their constituents to be left to grow and improve their quality of life to the degree they use these things to do so.
Some Republican politicians have lost their way of late, but sending them out of Washington will only guarantee that those of us who share these ideals will be sent out of Washington alongside them. Keeping them in Washington, and in the majority, is the only chance we have of helping them find their way again, and helping ensure our freedoms and liberties remain intact.
We MUST vote on November 7, and we MUST vote Republican.

Putting the current crop of far-left liberals in charge of congressional committees scares the hooey out of me. Democrats will destroy everything we have accomplished in Iraq and they will put our economy in a tailspin.
The Dow Jones is at an all-time high. Unemployment is incredibly low. Interest rates are near 30-year lows.
If the Dems take over, tax cuts will be rolled back and Americans will have less spending power. This is a recipe for recession.

In a sweeping decision, the Supreme Court today struck down laws in 49 states limiting marriage to a man and a woman. The 5-4 decision, authored by the moderate-conservative, Justice Anthony Kennedy, held that both the "evolving consensus" among progressive democracies and the constitutional right to define one's own meaning of the universe compelled the result. Kennedy was joined by the four moderate justices--Souter, Breyer, and the newly-appointed Justices Kathleen Sullivan and Andrea Dworkin, who were appointed last summer by President Rodham. The judges had filled the two seats that had been vacant for over two years, as Senate Democrats had successfully blocked the appointment of the nominees of former-President Bush. Justice Scalia, who also announced his retirement, filed an angry, disgruntled dissent, which was joined by the other three extreme conservatives on the Court.
Andrea Dworkin has been dead for more than a year. In fact, she was quite popular with several people close to the current President.

(I actually remembered that she had died after posting, but alas...)
A couple of other things wrong with my piece--Pres. Hillary is unlikely to divorce her husband or reclaim her father's last name until well into her second term, if at all. Plus, I don't think she would be foolish enough to nominate Sullivan, let alone a dead feminist. Just replace their names with "Name your lawyer/judge/professor who is so compassionate, so caring, so open-minded, so tolerant, and oh-so-moderate that she (or he, if absolutely necessary) can say with a straight face that the Constitution mandates open season on unborn children, including the unrestricted decapitation of these kids in the second and third trimester."
My stupidity aside, I think it is fair to say that a Democratic Senate majority after this election (unlikely to be undone in '08, and maybe not until '12) will significantly increase the chances that we will see Supreme Court decisions redefining marriage and further embedding unrestricted abortion into our Consitution.
Better vote now while you have the chance, social conservatives, for with each such "decision," we will be further disenfranchised.

If you are representative of the democrats by god you could get most sane people to vote republican.
Anyway to answer youre question. The following would help me vote Democratic.
Well Democrats that haven't decided to impeach a sitting president during time of war as payback would be a good start.
Seeing as the deficit is down to 250 billion and the economy is still going strong it might help if the dems hadn't decided to tax us into recession or worse.
While Mark Foley is abhorent he at least resigned. It might be a nice gesture if the dems decided to kick out william jefferson from the party instead of joe lieberman.
It might also help if the democrats were to admit that people that make explosive belts meant to be detonated in crowded places have lost the right to a measure of civilized treatment.
It wouldn't hurt if the Dems weren't more worried about tapping into terrorist phone calls and monitoring their financial transactions than they were about winning the war.
Last but certainly not least it would do a world of good if these people could at a minimum appear to convey a measure of sincerity and integrity instead of blatantly saying whatever they think the people want to hear and having complete condescension toward those they are talking to.
But then again I am probably just too stupid to vote Democrat.

My support stems from SC justices, foreign policy, taxes, and pro-life issues. I can only hope a significant caucus will eventually form to cut spending, abolish the IRS, end forced servitude to those who turn 65, and promote liberty induced answers to contemporary problems. The Democrats aren't even on the radar screen here.

If you believe instead that we are facing an imminent and grave threat that must be handled aggressively, and with the greatest urgency (despite any previous missteps we may have made in Iraq or elsewhere) vote Republican.

I started my politically active life as a Democrat extremely early on. By the time I was about 17, I came to an epiphany; the Democrats were no longer a party that wanted me. I could not stand fellow partisans denigrating people of faith. I couldn't understand their willingness to define "choice" only in terms of one ghastly medical procedure alone. I didn't get denigrating the private engines of our economy while shilling for murderers. And a party that sticks its head in the sand when enemies conspire against us is worthless. That's why I am a Republican.

Ever since Foley-gate broke, I have found myself back in the blogosphere looking for ways to make sure the Democrats don't take over Congress and we have to start saying "Speaker Pelosi". Within an hour after this contest started, my friend told me that a buddy of ours, a former co-worker of a few summers, was killed Friday in combat in Iraq. He was killed while on patrol in Bayji, the day after he turned 22.
For awhile, I honestly forgot what Nick looked like, and I felt awful. Then I saw the article in a local newspaper and saw his picture and the memories came back, and I remember a few summers back while at work and how excited he was to get into the Army. And I remember telling him that I admired what he was doing and that I wish I could find the courage to do it myself. Today I realized that he gave his life for my country. I will vote Republican because I refuse to have let his life end in vain. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family, as well as with the rest of those who are so bravely defending our lives.

The stock market is breaking new ground.
Average hourly wages are up.

Housing is not in a "bubble" as you may have heard, and prices have come down a little recently.
Oil prices are dropping like a rock.
Gas prices are following the oil prices.
Taxes are lower than they were 6 years ago.
We don't usually hear the GOOD things the Republicans have brought to the country. We only hear the doom and gloom spouted by the Democrats.

1. We need to maintain a level head and steady pressure in the The War Against Terror (T.W.A.T.).

It's unfortunate that the uber-liberal media keeps reporting on the National Intelligence Estimate which says pretty clearly that US foreign policy has emboldened Islamic extremists across the globe. Bush was right to label the NIE as "terrorist propaganda" a few weeks ago. Also, Bob Woodward is a traitor. I know the White House heartily endorsed his first two books. I know the White House heartily endorsed his first two books. That was before he was brainwashed by the liberals.
Anyone who suggests a different course of action really wants to see the United States conquered by the Islamic fundamentalists.
2. We need to maintain a tax environment that will grow our economy faster than we can implement new spending. Any day now our supply-side economic policies will start to pay off. Sure, everyone can see that the deficit is out of control, the debt has gone up by a couple trillion dollars, and the wealth gap is increasing faster and faster as the American middle class continues to shrink. Less regulation and more tax cuts for corporations could turn it all around.
3. We need to be able to get confirmed Supreme and District Court judges that will not legislate from the bench. Way too many "activist judges" seem to think it's their job to "interpret the constitution". We've managed to practically eliminate legislative oversight of the executive, so now the judicial oversight of the legislature is holding us back in a big way. I mean, seriously, why is it still legal to burn the American flag? Freedom of expression should have limits. When the flag is burned, people's feelings are hurt. America can't stand for that.
Also, our God is a powerful God, but also a bit insecure. If the liberal judges manage to keep references of God out of government by inventing a so-called "separation of church and state" that could really hurt God's feelings. God is only powerful if we print his name on every government-issued document, force schoolchildren to recite loyalty oaths to Him, and post his commandments in our courtrooms. Sure, the libtards will try to remind us that seven or eight of the commandments are not compatible with the United States Constitution, but we're working on that.
Don't forget, we need to worry about gay marriage. If gay people get married, I don't see how I could stay married to my wife. My marriage would be completely destroyed. The liberals keep asking how giving equal rights to gays could possibly affect the rest of us. They're so naive.
4. We need to allow President enough breathing room, free of nuisance subpoenas and hearings, to meet the unknown challenges that will arise these next two years. I can't stress this enough. Of course, someone is bound to point out that the Republicans spent several years and millions upon millions of public dollars investigating Clinton for his inconsequential personal affairs. There was much less at stake, then. However, it's still Clinton's fault we were attacked on 9/11. I also blame Clinton for the Iran and North Korea situations. Also, Clinton should have known that the invasion of Iraq wouldn't be cheap or easy. Also, Clinton failed to prevent the death of Steve Irwin.

There comes a time when one must transcend the political arena and vote for the people who can best position America for the future. It may seem like a simple task, but it is not. Congress is full of people, who like the rest of us have failings but never the less; the time to stand tall and pull the lever of democracy is upon us. I am going to talk of controversial things. I make no apology for this.
It's time we asked ourselves if we still know the freedoms intended for us by the Founding Fathers. James Madison said, "We base all our experiments on the capacity of mankind for self government."
This idea? that government was beholden to the people, that it had no other source of power is still the newest, most unique idea in all the long history of man's relation to man. This is the issue of this election: Whether we believe in our capacity for self-government or whether we abandon the American Revolution and confess that a little intellectual elite in a far-distant capital can plan our lives for us better than we can plan them ourselves.
You and I are told we must choose between a left or right, but I suggest there is no such thing as a left or right. There is only an up or down. Up to man's age-old dream-the maximum of individual freedom consistent with order or down to the ant heap of totalitarianism. Regardless of their sincerity, their humanitarian motives, those who would sacrifice freedom for security have embarked on this downward path. Plutarch warned, "The real destroyer of the liberties of the people is he who spreads among them bounties, donations and benefits."
The Founding Fathers knew a government can't control the economy without controlling people. And they knew when a government sets out to do that, it must use force and coercion to achieve its purpose. So we have come to a time for choosing.
Public servants say, always with the best of intentions, "What greater service we could render if only we had a little more money and a little more power." But the truth is that outside of its legitimate function, government does nothing as well or as economically as the private sector.
Yet any time you and I question the schemes of the do-gooders, we're denounced as being opposed to their humanitarian goals. It seems impossible to legitimately debate their solutions with the assumption that all of us share the desire to help the less fortunate. They tell us we're always "against," never "for" anything.
We are for a provision that destitution should not follow unemployment by reason of old age, and to that end we have accepted Social Security as a step toward meeting the problem. However, we are against those entrusted with this program when they practice deception regarding its fiscal shortcomings, when they charge that any criticism of the program means that we want to end payments....
We are for aiding our allies by sharing our material blessings with nations which share our fundamental beliefs, but we are against doling out money government to government, creating bureaucracy, if not socialism, all over the world.
We need true tax reform that will at least make a start toward I restoring for our children the American Dream that wealth is denied to no one, that each individual has the right to fly as high as his strength and ability will take him.... But we can not have such reform while our tax policy is engineered by people who view the tax as a means of achieving changes in our social structure....
Have we the courage and the will to face up to the immorality and discrimination of the progressive tax, and demand a return to traditional proportionate taxation? . . . Today in our country the tax collector's share is 37 cents of -very dollar earned. Freedom has never been so fragile, so close to slipping from our grasp.
Are you willing to spend time studying the issues, making yourself aware, and then conveying that information to family and friends? Will you resist the temptation to get a government handout for your community? Realize that the doctor's fight against socialized medicine is your fight. We can't socialize the doctors without socializing the patients. Recognize that government invasion of public power is eventually an assault upon your own business. If some among you fear taking a stand because you are afraid of reprisals from customers, clients, or even government, recognize that you are just feeding the crocodile hoping he'll eat you last.
If all of this seems like a great deal of trouble, think what's at stake. We are faced with the most evil enemy mankind has known in his long climb from the swamp to the stars. There can be no security anywhere in the free world if there is no fiscal and economic stability within the United States. Those who ask us to trade our freedom for the soup kitchen of the welfare state are architects of a policy of accommodation.
They say the world has become too complex for simple answers. They are wrong. There are no easy answers, but there are simple answers. We must have the courage to do what we know is morally right. Winston Churchill said that "the destiny of man is not measured by material computation. When great forces are on the move in the world, we learn we are spirits-not animals." And he said, "There is something going on in time and space, and beyond time and space, which, whether we like it or not, spells duty."
You and I have a rendezvous with destiny. We will preserve for our children this, the last best hope of man on earth, or we will sentence them to take the first step into a thousand years of darkness. The only measurable footprint of conservative governance guided by the Constitution of the United States is practiced by the Republican party. Conservatives need to go out and vote because North Korea just validated the President's reason for being in Iraq. It is a lot more comfortable debating our actions in a WMD free Iraq than it will be to fix the Korean peninsula now that North Korea has a nuke. And don't think the Democrat party will do anything to fix the Iran problem before (or after) it becomes a BIG nuclear problem, either.
We cannot even begin to discuss things like abortion, illegal immigration, protecting marriage, or [fill in your favorite conservative cause here] until and unless our nation's sovereignty is secure. Arguably border security is part of the national security argument--but you can bet your bottom dollar the Democrat party won't even think about funding the 700 mile wall.

The Republican record on Culture of Life issues is not perfect. But the floodgate of Culture of Death legislation Nanci Pelosi has waiting in hand terrifies me. Forget any thought of overturning Roe-v-Wade, hello human embryos as medicine. I'll run to the polls to vote Republican to avoid the Party of Death getting into power.

This year I'll be voting for Bob Beauprez for Governor of Colorado instead of Bill Ritter because my little sister was nearly killed by an illegal immigrant in a hit and run accident on July 1st. Bill Ritter, during his time as Denver DA did all he could do to enable illegal immigrants in Denver, including making exotic plea bargins to avoid deportation and putting in place a DUI "catch and release" policy that has cost my family nearly $300,000 and my sister's fertility. Bill Ritter will turn Colorado into a sanctuary state now that Denver is a sanctuary city.
We can never allow this to happen again. Ever. Period.

Generally, my impression is that Republicans (the ordinary citizens, not their elected reps) are concerned about the issue, but it's not a priority for them, because they've been winning. Thus I was delighted to hear a rumor rolling around among the Dems that, if the Republicans lose in November, Karl Rove is going to say that they stole it. They always say this with much horror and indignation. To which I always reply, "Gee, I hope so! We need more Republicans riled up about this issue!"
It's also my impression that their elected officials are concerned about the issue too, but they are afraid to take it up too aggressively (or at all), because they are afraid that their constituents will think they've taken up with the conspiracy theorists.

And you don't need to buy multiple expensive and complicated machines for every polling place and expect every 75 year old poll volunteer to be able to deal with them. I vote in a rural area and neither the building nor the poll workers would be able to deal with ATM style machines. It is just asking for trouble. I'm glad our voting is still optical scan.

We had a bit of a fight to get the law through the legislature, but generally the disaster in one of our touchscreen counties in 2004 paved the way and it wasn't all that hard. As I said, the final vote was unanimous.
But then the counties had to choose between touchscreens with the "toilet paper" ballots (like a cash register tape, and printed by the machine) and optical scan. Now that was a battle! Some of the counties fought tooth-and-nail for the touchscreens. In the end, it was impossible to conclude that everyone involved was acting in good faith. (We had an election director convicted of taking kickbacks in memorable history.) At the same time, it was reassuring that, in most cases, if you gave people good information (and we had even crunched all the cost estimates for them...immediate purchase, training, and long-term maintenance), they usually made good decisions.

We got stuck with "toilet paper" ballots in about half of counties (optical scan in the rest), which we think have a number of drawbacks, but we're waiting to see if the proof is in the pudding or not. Our focus for the next couple of elections will be following through on the post-election audits, to make sure they are done properly, so we will finally have some hard data on how well our voting machines do or do not work.
We also have to remain vigilant to protect our law from being watered down. A few months back, some nameless someone tried to slip some language into another bill that would have allowed our State BOE (who selects the sample of precincts to be audited) to release the identities of the to-be-audited precincts before the election. Ha! No way! The alert went out, emails, faxes, and phone calls flooded legislative offices, and, by the end of the day, the bill was pulled from the floor and the offending language deleted.
And a lot of people hate the open source code requirement, because vendors don't wanna share...even with our Board of Elections.

The Iraqis and Afghans, who put their faith in us and are fighting side-by-side with us, are watching. As are the Iranian democracy activists, who know that they're lost if America loses its nerve. Then there's the people of "New Europe"--the British, the Poles, the Czechs, the Italians, the Danes. I.e, all the nations who passed on Jacques Chirac's advice to stay silent, and instead stood with the Americans and are fighting the jihadhis. And don't forget the Indonesian and Pakistani children who now play with toy Chinook helicopters, symbols of the caring Americans who came from the sky with relief during natural disasters.
They're all watching, because they've seen an image of an America that's resolute and ready to lead, and willing to stand and fight. Sadly, that's something you don't see much of from "civilized" nations nowadays.
We cannot let them down. Because there is no one else to step up in our place.

- Actively seeks to uproot and destroy al Qaeda and other terrorist organizations and nations which, if given the chance, would kill every single man, woman and child in this country;
- Places a greater emphasis on keeping Americans safe and sound than on ensuring Constitutional and other rights for terrorist killers;
- Affirms the longstanding idea of American exceptionalism, i.e. that America is a beacon of freedom and hope for the oppressed of this world, and that America has a special responsibility to strive for all of humanity to enjoy the freedom and prosperity that her citizens enjoy, as opposed to the typical liberal canards that America is an evil country that is no better than your average tin-pot dictatorship;
- Believes, unlike the Democrats, that America and her freedom-loving allies should not be constrained by the anti-democratic, anti-American, dictator-coddling United Nations in doing whatever is necessary to protect the free world from those who hate our way of life; and
- Does not judge the desirability or undesirability of foreign policy based on "international" (i.e. French) opinion.
I could go on and on, of course - but, in my mind, no other issues matter if the government does not keep us secure from the terrorist threat. One party, and one party only, is serious about national security, and it is NOT the Democrats.
Vote Republican this November. Our lives may very well depend on it.

I don't want to vote GOP because I fear Pelosi or Hillary. I vote GOP because I love my party. I believe in the American way of life and that is why I am a Republican.
Republicans really are not just the lesser of two evils. We really are good.
I love George W. Bush for exactly that reason. He puts America first. He does what he feels is right for us. He does not care about polls or international opinion. That is called "being a leader" as opposed to being a follower.
But you know what guys? It isn't only a partisan thing. As much as I disapproved of Bill Clinton because of his politics and behavior, I would defend him to the death in front of a foreigner. He may have been a lying sac of ****, but he was my President and even on his worst day, he was 100 times better than Jacques Chirac on his best day.
How many liberals do we know who would so vigorously defend Bush? Not many. I think Charlie Rangel said a word or two after the Chavez incident, but thats all. They fail to realize who the REAL enemies are. That is why I am a Republican.
This November the voters have an important to choice to make. One party offers hope, safety, and prosperity while the other offers criticism and anger. If you want live in a country that aggressively fights terrorism, vote Republican. If you want to live in a country with an economy that's the envy of the modern world, vote Republican. If you want to live in a country that promotes low taxes and the entrepreneurial spirit, vote Republican. If you want to live in a country governed by men and not judges, vote Republican. If this isn't your vision of America, vote Democrat.

"Men" has a long history of being used in cases where it is not limited to referring to just the male sex, just as "he" can be used as a pronoun to describe someone of indeterminate sex. It would be easy to say I don't want to hear from "Speaker" Pelosi and/or Majority "Leader" Reid. But that's not what this is about.
- Republicans want a strong military.
- Republicans don't raise taxes as a rule. Those that do are RINOs.
- Republicans are by and large constitutional conservatives, meaning good judges.
- Conservative Republicans want secure borders.
Lastly, in the elections I will be voting on, there are no Democrats who believe in these things.
Republicans are far from perfect, and need to do a lot better at many things (spending, for example). But they seem willing to take on issues instead of politicizing them and just saying "no" for the sake of saying "no" in order to make political rivals look bad. Today's Democrats only seem to be able to do that. Unless they are in power, then they do none of the items mentioned above.
A just war leads to a just peace and freedom. An unjust peace leads to death.

I know this is more than 100 words, but I couldn't say this in so few words.
Many conservatives are troubled, angered, or feel disenfranchised by the National Republican Establishment. Recent scandals have tarred the image of Washington leadership. Some have called for “real conservatives” to sit out this election to prove a point. They seek to teach the Republican party a lesson for losing their way. They would seek to burn the Grand Ole Party to the ground with the hopes that a new conservative movement would rise like a Phoenix out of the ashes. I tell you today that we conservatives do not need to set fire to our home in the GOP for the sake of renewal.
For 40 years Congressional Republicans wandered in the political wilderness like the Hebrews did once they left Egypt. In 1994, led by Newt Gingrich, conservative Republicans stormed the gates of Washington and threw out the rascals. Not unlike the Hebrews, a few years after reaching the Promise Land, many Republicans have lost their way and abandoned their roots. We need to remind our leaders of those ideals that they once were stalwart supporters. Starting today, we need bring back the common sense conservatism that is such a part of the legacy of Ronald Reagan. We should look back to the giants of conservatism in the past, apply their principles today, and use them as a guide to find our way again. We can put the Republican Party on the right track again. I’m going to close with a quote from President Reagan,
“America’s best days lie ahead, and you know…You ain’t seen nothing yet!”

If you are really sick of 4.7% unemployment, 3+% GDP growth, a record high stock market, increasing disposable income and historically low interest rates, I am sure the Democrats can change that for you. But I am not sick of these things, nor am I sick of the President's willingness to take the fight to our enemies on our terms and will be voting Republican.
I am impressed by the knowledge and sincerity on display. The contributors and Redstate.com's staff should be proud.
At the same time, I am continually disappointed with the lack of substance from the left. Their platform is criticism and a quest for power, not service. Case in point, when a famously liberal newspaper here in Cleveland, Ohio publicly endorsed the democratic candidate for Governor, they actually said he "often appears stunningly free of vision".
This country forever deserves a spirited debate of the issues. It's what our founding fathers fought to establish. Keeping Republicans in office ensures this will happen.

I'm voting Republican because, while I do believe that most people in both major parties truly do want to work towards social justice, economic prosperity, and national security, Democrats are just really, really bad at it.

In the next 28 months, our country is going to have new leaders at the top in the US House, US Senate, and a new President.
Our (Republicans) mistakes and successes have given us the discernment to promise 3 areas of attention:
1. We will continue the tradition of the strongest national defense possible, win the war on terror, and defeat Islamic fascist terrorist.
2. We're going to be more frugal with your tax dollars by initiating the FAIR TAX, eliminating government waste, and enforcing all immigration laws.
3. Our leaders will have the character and the moral commitment to do what's right even when no one is looking.
The Republican Party offers the best choices for these roles and new leaders are on the way in this election cycle.
I traditionally vote Republican because I value the conservative ideals that this country's founders instilled in the fabric of the constitution: limited government, lower taxes, economic freedom, and a strong national defense. Many would argue, and I would agree, that the current GOP leadership have failed to use their recent majority to advance most of these ideals. Federal spending has been far too high, and the promised reforms of social security, income tax, and immigration policies have not materialized.
The temptation to punish our leadership for these failings must be set aside, however. This country is fighting a war that MUST be won, and we cannot afford to give control of either house to a party that will weaken our efforts. Imagine a congress that opposes every presidential policy, bogging our government down in impeachment proceeding, and withdrawing support for our defense. Don’t let the recent media campaign against the GOP leadership succeed in keeping you from supporting the party that will take this country forward.
It is in the best interests of myself and my country to prevent the party that believes:

Before I get into it, though, I'd like to point out that my take on the contest was why to vote for the GOP - not why to vote against the Democrats. This distinction, I believe, is the biggest thing missing in the efforts of the Republican party heading into the November elections - at least here in Wyoming as Cubin fights to hold what should be an easy seat, and in neighboring CO where many races that should go GOP are trending Dem. We have a lousy method of getting our message out this election cycle... So, without further ado, why I am for the Republican Party this November, not just against the Democrats:

i came across this contest, but i honestly think we need to expand the discussion (i've always thought this but these idiotic dems posting here makes me need to say it). I dont think we should be asking ONLY why vote Republican, but also how we keep President Bush in office. FDR did it during a time of crisis and we should do the same now. We should suspend the Presidential election as long as necessary in order to send a clear message to the rest of the world that we are not going to back down from these threats. I think we should do a contest about that. Why should we suspend the Presidential election in '08 and pledge our loyalty (and patriotism) to President Bush, as long as he requires it?

We elect representatives for terms of two years and senators for six. We cannot predict many of the issues our government will face during their terms. However, we must elect officials who can deal with the unforseen issues. It is important to Vote Republican this November so that we have a government in place capable of dealing with the next set of threats; North Korea, China, Iran, Social Security… The other party is running on fear, uncertainty and doubt, trying to form a government based on the next two months but we need to Vote Republican so that we can elect officials that will best serve the national interests over the next 2 years.
I'm voting Republican because by fighting in Iraq all terrorists have signed a pledge to only attack us there, the federal deficit is at an all-time low, the size of government has gotten smaller, our word is trusted around the world and Condi Rice and George W. Bush focused exclusively on Osama bin Laden in the 9 months preceding the 9-11 attack. The Mission is Accomplished and Mark Foley isn't a predator; he's Republican who truly cares for our kids (when he's not trying to get into their pants).
