Senator Santorum's strong closing

Way to go, Rick.

Rick Santorum and Bob Casey debated yesterday in Pittsburgh. There's lots of coverage of the event, as Mark pointed out, on SantorumBlog.

What really got my attention was Senator Santorum's closing argument. Mr. Santorum is an accomplished and experienced debater, and his skills were on full display as he showed up his opponent's insipid ignorance. At the end, however, the Senator dropped his polished public persona and made an impassioned case for why he should be re-elected. It is refreshing--not to mention startling--in this day and age of handlers and talking points to have a politician speak with such forthright candor. Mr. Santorum was, in a word, electric--to the point that the unfortunate Mr. Casey's mumbled response was completely lost. The clip is below--watch it and I bet you'll feel the urge to visit the Santorum campaign to volunteer or donate.

Now this is what I call a strong closing:

Forgive him, Toomey fans. It is time to forgive and support.

I was soooooooo frustrated with him for his support of Specter.

But that is in the past - and losing Santorum now would make matters much worse...

Santorum is the real deal for the things that truly matter.

We need him. Get out and vote for him. Energize. Get all around you to rally to his side. We NEED him in the Senate.

Make it so!

of being angry with over not supporting Toomey. If he does nothing else on T.V. but that last part of his closeing I think he could very well win.
Time for me to help!!
"Peace had a chance"

At least he's going out with roar bot a whimper.

Casey is a worm!

I dont live in PA but I feel those who do live there with Santorum gone.

I'll call it just short of a miracle if he wins.

What the hell are people thinking when the pull the lever for Casey??

It's like a wounded puppy fighting for its life. My heart goes out to the man as does my vote and my money/campaign work.

Swann folks,

Give it up, help Rick!

I'm not a Moby, actually look at my previous postings. I'm working my butt off for Rick. I just think he looks desperate.

I disagree, Julian--I don't think he looks desperate, I think he knows he's got nothing to lose in this race and is opening it up. If he keeps on like this, it's an excellent strategy--but unusual in this day and age, so I can understand how you would be a little unnerved.

"I'm kind of old-fashioned. I like to engage my brain before my mouth." Donald Rumsfeld

It is brilliant if intentional.

I don't think it was rehearsed, because I don't think this could have been, but I think the effect was as intended.

"I'm kind of old-fashioned. I like to engage my brain before my mouth." Donald Rumsfeld

One should not "work his butt off for Rick" to the detriment of other Republicans. Remember, support for the Senator and support for the gubernatorial candidate are not mutually exclusive. The two do not detract one from the other.

RedState.com has a SwannBlog.org, but we work with the Santorumblog. We all want Rick to win.

Bob Casey last night shewed himself to be an annoying, little man. (My wife had another term.) Maybe Rick's campaign will stress that very pervasive aspect of Casey's style and personality.

I like Lynn, I've met him, I'm voting for him, I've donated to him, I've canvassed for him. I just don't see how he wins.

But you wrote: "Swann folks, Give it up, help Rick!" Not believing he can win is no excuse for that. I was told, two years ago, to quit supporting Pat Toomey because he couldn't beat Arlen Specter. He didn't, of course, but I am not retracting my support for Toomey. If Lynn Swann does not look like he can win, I'm still not retracting my support for him.

We're talking maybe 250,000 votes out of Ed's total in the southeast. That's doable if Lynn finishes strong.

And speaking of 250,000, that's how many dollars Lynn received this week from the Republican Governors Association as Mitt Romney campaigned with Swann in Philadelphia. There are other races where that money could be spent, but the RGA is not ready to "give it up."

You have to remember how much is at stake here, and it's bigger than just showing Ed the door. If you want to be a good Republican, you have to remind yourself of what that means.

until the final bell rings.
It aint over till it's over
"Peace had a chance"

not hard to get to the real sites, but the santorumblog and campaign links in the original post have the redstate address run into the destination address, leading to a redstate "page not found" page.

Now that was a passionate statement. If PA can't pull together to see him over bumbling Casey... (Frankly, I was surprised Casey showed up - something Rendell doesn't like to do in the Swann race)

"I'm kind of old-fashioned. I like to engage my brain before my mouth." Donald Rumsfeld

Used the opportunity to give a small amount to Santorum's campaign, though not quite as much as I gave Allen last night. (I've about hit my budget on 2006 contributions)

is that the childish acts of some paleocons in PA over the Tooimey deal are going to help Casey. Casey is a doofus, yet he may win because of Philly Phraud and paleocons sitting out.

For shame.

Sitting out is a vote for KOS.

Republicans can't count on Buchananites as part of the coalition anymore, period.

Or are you using a new meaning for 'paleocon?'

If you're seeing shades of gray, it's because you're not looking close enough to see the black and white dots.

Toomeyphiles are Neocons and libertarians. I know Pat and I was endorsed by him in May. He's doing a lot for Rick but some of his worshippers like Ray Horvath just won't get on board.

Has Specter returned the favor yet and campaigned for Santorum, or his he planning to?

Yes he's campaigning for Rick, but then so is Toomey

the big Grange fair with here in Centre County.

"Peace had a chance"

It has been a while since I left a comment or posted an entry, but listening to Senator Santorum-my hope still lies with the Republican Party; I had been flirting with voting for the Constitutional Party canidate here in Utah-But listening to the senator speak from his heart is refreshing. I wish I could vote for him. But, I will continue to support and vote for Republican Canidates here.

"Life is too short, can't we all just eat pork and kill some terrorists?"

We need not argue the stupid/not-stupid bit, because it is irrelevant. Think instead of what motivates him and colors his thoughts.

If he is not stupid, snd I don't know, something has him typing some very stupid things.

So how do he and others like him keep a straight face when supporting such a complete bufoon like Casey?

I mean seriously, is this character the dumbest Senate Candidate ever?

It has to be nervewracking for Rick to even fathom that he could lose to such a moron.

Casey can't help it that he speaks with a lisp, but at least he could make sure that the understandable words coming out of his mouth make sense.

"Life is too short, can't we all just eat pork and kill some terrorists?"

doubtful. it would be very hard to top some of the ones the Dems already have in there like Babs Boxer and Patty Murray.

I should just pretend that I left off the [sic] tag ;)

was frankly a little unsettling. I guess his back is up against the wall, but when he kept going "look in the camera and tell them Bob!" or something along those lines it made me cringe.

for a year and just commented about how Allen won the last VA sen debate. I don't think so
