LA-GOV: Mitch Landrieu (D) declines another loss
Bobby Jindal (R)'s popularity eliminates major rivals

The New Orleans Times Picayune reports that LT GOV Landrieu is not going to run for Governor. So the most popular LA politician, Bobby Jindal (R), continues to scare off potential foes:
1) GOV Blanco, not running for re-eleciton.
2) ex-SEN Breaux, declined to run after polls showed him down double digits to Jindal.
3) LT GOV Landrieu (and recent NOLA Mayoral race loser), not running for GOV but will run for LT GOV.
4) REP Melancon again announced he is not running for GOV.
2007 could be an amazing year for the long-struggling LA GOP. In fact, the GOP should think about challenging Landrieu for his LT GOV seat and Melancon's right-of-center district (LA-03). Jindal's coattails will help pick up state house and state senate seats. In 2008, GOV Jindal and SEN Vitter will be able to help a Republican challenge to too-liberal-for-LA SEN Mary Landrieu.
[UPDATE] Just a reminder that Jindal has a favorable/unfavorable rating of
Fav/Unfav 67%-13% (+54). Compare to other LA politician's below the fold:
D. Vitter 57 /20 (+37)
J. Breaux 53 /22 (+31)
Mary Landrieu 49 /33 (+16)
Mitch Landrieu 38 /28 (+10)
Pres. Bush 47 /40 (+7)
K. Blanco 39 /43 (-4)

Too far away. There is no reason the LA GOP should not challenge LA-03 in a Presidential year with Jindal as Governor.
But if all else fails, the 2010 re-drawing will probably be required to have one CBC district. That alone makes the other 5 lean-right districts.

At this point, I'd call this seat a GOP pickup.

...is now Public Service Commissioner Foster Campbell, a North Louisiana gasbag that I'd swear is the reincarnation of Huey Pierce Long.
His brilliant plan for years has been to impose a "processing tax" on natural gas that is produced in the Federal Offshore but is processed for market in Louisiana gas plants or refineries.
Sounds unconstitutional to me, but hey, what do I know?

Can we please have someone to take this Senate seat? LA might be our only chance at a pickup in 08.
WJ,D(LA) could make a run for governor, just with the advertising budget

One rumor floating around the state is that former two-term governor, Mike Foster, is considering a run at Moon's baby girl's Senate seat.
Now that would be a fun race to watch.
Mary would be squirming over that one.

+5 Senate seats = State Senate majority
+11 State house seats = State House majority.
Very doable in this environment.
Then, in 2011, Jefferson's district is combined with Melancon's district; GOP sections of Melancon's district shore up LA-07, some of LA-01 transferred to shore up LA-06.
Dare to dream, right?
