RedState Endorses Jim Whitehead (GA-10)

A couple of congressional special elections will be taking place around the country in the next few weeks. One of these is down in Georgia, where there are ten candidates are competing to fill the tenth congressional district seat vacated by the late Charlie Norwood, who passed away in February after a long illness.

Of the candidates running, the Democrats and online left have mostly rallied behind liberal Atlantan James Marlow, a Yahoo! executive who, though he has roots in the district, does not live there. (In fact, most of the candidates in this race do not live in the district.)

One candidate who does live in the district and who is worth supporting is State Senator Jim Whitehead of Augusta. Jim Whitehead is a pro-life conservative who will be a reliably conservative vote on fiscal issues, immigration, the war, and life.

You can learn more about Jim Whitehead here and you can contribute to him here. Remember, add 2ยข to your contribution just to make sure they know you're coming from RedState.

While the RedState community might be fighting for a lot of things these days, we should not lose sight of worthy Republican candidates running for office who deserve our help and support.

Hope to see many more.

one run for Representative from a district in which one does not live? Is this one of those subtleties of legal residence things or is it another law that doesn't apply to Democrats?

The U.S. Constitution regulates this. Any person can run for any congressional district in any state so long as the person is a citizen of the state in which he runs. You do not have to be a resident of the particular district.

Congressional District in my state, I'd never looked into it. Sounds like a good way to live in high style in ATL and represent some safe, cheap rural district. Thanks!

Yay! by Holly

This is great news!

I sent him a cat. The fuzzy guy will send him some of that money stuff.

He sounds like a great guy that I could support. I plan to contribute to his campaign.
