Our Candidates Should Turn Tuesday's Debate Into "Pin the Hammer and Sickle on Chris Matthews"

The Democrats will not participate in a debate with Fox News hosts, lest they be asked difficult questions. Nonetheless, the GOP will have yet another MSNBC debate on Tuesday with Chris Matthews, who offered these choice words last night:

"[The Bush Administration has] finally been caught in their criminality," Matthews continued, although he did not specify the exact criminal behavior to which he referred. He then drew an obvious Bush-Nixon parallel by saying, “Spiro Agnew was not an American hero."

Matthews left the throng of Washington A-listers with a parting shot at Cheney: “God help us if we had Cheney during the Cuban missile crisis. We’d all be under a parking lot.”

You know, I will be gravely disappointed if the GOP candidates do not make an issue of this at the debate.

If the GOP candidates are too chicken to take on Chris Matthews before a live television audience on Matthew's gross bias, they will have disgraced us all.

At the very minimum, I would expect the GOP candidates, should they get another, and I paraphrase Matthews' question, "Don't you want to give Bill Clinton oral sex" debate question, should respond in the Reaganesque manner of "What the hell type of question is this you filthy, dirty leftist?!?!"

In other words, I expect our candidates, who have not run from these lefty debates like the Democrats have from Fox News, to turn this debate into a game of "pin the hammer and sickle on Matthews," i.e. challenging the premises of his questions and criticizing him for wasting all of our time.

...with the...cajones... to take on a lying scumbag like this, then how in the world can we claim that we're strong on anything?

And for all who will argue that the high road is the better road, please tell me what the last six and a half years of the chief executive's turning the other cheek has accomplished, other than spraying -- spraying -- blood into the water for the opposition sharks to swarm to.

And GHWB was not exactly Mr. Tough Guy with the press.

I think we take the high road well by not cancelling the debate like chumps, the way the Dems did with Fox. Stand in the ring and call the guy out.

"No compromise with the main purpose, no peace till victory, no pact with unrepentant wrong." - Winston Churchill

What puzzles me is why ANYBODY takes this jerk seriously as a TV pundit...does anyone remember when he was moderator of the GOP candidates debate earlier this year when he in all sincerity asked them "Would it be a good thing to have Bill Clinton back in the White House?"....I guess he was thinking that at least one of them would say "Sure,Chris...the best thing for the country would be for Bill Clinton's wife to defeat which ever one of us gets the GOP nomination in 2008"......either congenital stupidity or sheer terminal partisanship

any campaign staffers to take a look at Ken Taylor's blog about the Dems avoiding slander charges in the Limbaugh attacks by keeping their remarks in their respective chambers. I'm sure Matthews is going to go after Rush and therefore our party with this tripe. Instead of preparing "answers" that can be molded to any question so they get their talking points out they should be proactively preparing to counter absurd questions with smashmouth answers that call in to question the moderators biases.

This is a fine opportunity to take this self-righteous prig down a notch or two. He shouldn't be too difficult to blindside since he only sees one point of view.

But I'm an old stuck in my ways Republican. They can take my user name when they pry it from my cold, dead hand. Hey....I LIKE that! Is that taken too....? :-)

What a perfect time for a candidate to break out big time. A verbal smack down of mr. softball. He is a total scumbag that pisses all over the meaning of free speech.

I'd love to see the reaction of our founding fathers to today's version of free speech by the lying left. They'd take someone like mr. softball out behind the woodshed for a lesson in the meaning of free speech, patriotism, and doing whats best for our country.

Jon Stewart had Mr. Matthews on the other night, and he tore him a new one. Matthews was pushing his new book, and Stewart actually took the time to read the book, then dismiss it as "A recipe for sadness". Matthews was completely unprepared and Stewart made a fool of him.

Do we really expect any of our GOP candidates to speak up for President Bush? With any real vehemance? Dream on.

Matthews says things like this because he suspects he can get away with them. And I suspect he's right.

"Who will stand/On either hand/And guard this bridge with me?" (Macaulay)

What's with the whole "hammer and sickle" association?

Are you referencing the Soviet Union that ceased to exist 16 years ago or the current day Communist nations of China and Vietnam which we both have normalized trade relations with if not most favored nation status already. Or Cuba which is in our backyard and has yet to spread to or destroy the US.

Labeling lefties you don't like with the "Commie" insult is kinda outdated now.

Not all Democrats are socialists, but there are some major socialists in the Democratic party. They honestly believe in taking all property away from people, providing them jobs at corporations the government controls, and that this new world without money will be a paradise on earth.

The flaw in their argument is that it will take brutal force for it to ever work. Few of us would work on little more than hobbies if we were not getting paid for it so we would be forced by the state into our jobs. The socialist system will grind the life out of anyone that goes against it.

I think the commie label is fair as that is the "paradise" they will get.

What has always made a hell on earth has been that man has tried to make it his heaven.

-Friedrich Holderlin

Its an old baseless smear that in this day and age comes off as silly.

Silly? by J.K

Silly?

Alright.. then then tell me how a socialist system would function without government force.

Can you name even one voluntary socialist system or even socialist program that people can opt-out of if they so choose?

was that there are no actual socialists in the deomcratic party, henece the smear.

Of course that is wrong, the party is still loaded with those types. I actually spoke, recently to a young guy in a trade union who said that in the union meetings they talked about how wonderful everything would be if there were no private property!

"Nothing works like freedom, Nothing succeeds like liberty"
Kyle

leaders are telling us. Which is exactly what the Communist Party of America has been saying for Years

The title of the article-"This Battle Can Be Won!" The way the Communist plan to win as described in the article; get the Democrats elected, get the laws that the Communists are pushing
enacted.
Bills like--"Waiting to be heard is HR 1696 Employee Free Choice Act, the right to unionize; HR 1704 The Second Chance Act to assist young people after incarceration; HR 5150 Reverse the Raid on Student Aid; and HR 551 the Student Privacy Protection Act regarding turning over names of students to the military."

"It is a struggle to strengthen the all peoples coalition and within that to strengthen the left and the Communist Party."

The Hammer and Sickle never went away, they are just content to let the American leftists do their dirty work for them.

Yes, silly.

I am not arguing for socialism. Your claim is that associating Democrats to Communists is an accurate portrayal of the party and its political ideology. In political theory socialism is a step towards communism, they are not the same thing. The Democratic party does not profess a Socialist agenda nor a Communist agenda.

Early Christian monks and many religions today practiced a form of socialism, where there is no private property but there is collective property where none of it belongs to the individual, it belongs to God. So why not start a campaign against them for being Communists?

Why wrongfully attack the Democratic party as Communists when there are real Communists that are growing stronger everyday, like China. Every product made in China that we as Americans buy, we support Communism.

Don't you think calling Democrats Communists is kinda silly in comparison to that?

No comparison.

Federally mandated health insurance; Hillary's desire, with respect to the oil companies, to "take those profits"; the general desire of democrats to raise taxes; smells like socialism,
BUT, I will grant you this

Republicans would do well to admit that much of the new deal and great society is socialism and that the real argument is over how much we want.

because they have common grounds -- and everyone pays into the association to have the lawns mowed and the walks shoveled?

Are the Democrats socialist when they take money from the producers and give that money to the non-producers?

Is the US socialist because they collect taxes that support and maintain the National Parks system (they are a non-producer)?

"Every product made in China that we as Americans buy, we support Communism."

Ick.. so you would make laws against who we can buy and sell from.. thats not very capitalist of you is it now.

I actually like the Democrats that are not socialists but most of them are, they want a european style socialist democracy, they want the government to "provide for the people" don't they? .. And thats the problem, its not government job to provide anything because to do so they have to TAKE IT from someone else.

If montana's not a Democrat I'll be surprised.

Good,

It would be boring if we all agreed.

But the people who set the policy around here want to let well-behaved Democrats here, so what I think just doesn't go, heh.

HTML Help Central for Red Staters

It's not enough to just "say" they are wrong.

We have to prove they are wrong in the court of ideas, we do that by letting them express their crazy ideas then explaining why they are wrong.

"Ick.. so you would make laws against who we can buy and sell from.. thats not very capitalist of you is it now."

Nope, I never said that, that's you claiming statements I never said.

I would prefer that US consumers and corporations take it upon themselves to shop or make deals with a political and moral conscience and not support communism, dictatorships and other countries with massive human rights violations. But that doesn't always happen. Do you buy Chinese products that go onto support Communism?

In addition though, the Constitution under the Powers of Congress section grants Congress with the power to:

"To regulate Commerce with foreign Nations, and among the several States, and with the Indian Tribes"

So if Congress wanted to make it illegal to say sell nuclear weapon technology to Iran, they can do that. I would not prefer capitalism to trump the US Constitution. Do you?

My original point wasn't to debate socialism or communism, it was to make a point about the childish use of name calling, when talking about Democrats or other opponents. It does nothing to elevate a debate and hinders the ability to enter into a serious dialog about a topic once the name calling starts. In addition, I am also trying to get across the point that Communism as the "big red menace" that it was during the cold war is drastically different now and we as a Nation our fueling massive communist economies and no one is even blinking but because a Democrat talks about healthcare, everyone throws a hissy fit. If you are truely concerned about the spread of Communism look at China not at your fellow American.

A self proclaimed socialist at that. How is it silly ?

so everyone ignores the facts.

Outside of the debates Reps should coordinate and focus on one or two whacko journalists at a time. Concentrated efforts will have more success in bringing the bold liars back in line. Dems are good at coordinating their attacks. The difference is Reps should attack to get the bold face lying to stop. Dems attack to completely silence conservatives.
