And The Winner Is . . .

Hat tip to Mike Huckabee, apparently, for coming up with the moniker. It is interesting that several questions were asked about Fred Thompson. When is the last time a candidate for office in the same party was made the subject of multiple debate questions?

Fred...Fred...Fred..!

Really well done!

Rudi wins with the real candidates over romney.

Arianna actually thought McCain won tonite after being slapped around by everybody including wolfie. Yeah, good thing the democrats didnt go on Fox. You just can't get quality anaylsis like Arianna on that Fox network.

Fred's performance on Fox was great. When he announced his website, it actually crashed for several minutes.

His website crashed (ok, they need to get better servers). But that shows...he's got people rushing to visit, at least.

And he just got one more donation, from me.

Oh c'mon. Gov. Thompson's momentum was hurt tonight, not helped.

Strike that, Sen. Thompson's momentum was hurt....

Because clearly, at least one of the candidates tonight greatly differentiated themselves from the pack and showed why they are the definitive conservative choice capable of uniting the party and winning the general election. I am sure all of the misgivings that more than half of the party's voters had prior to the debate are now dissolved, and the entire reason behind Thompson's campaign is now unimportant.

Actually, I think that Gov. Romney started dominating once they got to the sit-down portion of the debate, but that's not what I mean.

Sen. Thompson's a spectre to the debate. By showing up and mixing it up both Sen. McCain and Gov. Romney moved their campaigns forward a bit (Giuliani faded to the background). Their responses will become the media cycle for the next several days.

The Sen. Thompson rocket got stalled tonight.

"There is this almost created sense of this Mighty Mouse candidacy, 'Here I come to save the day,"' Huckabee told reporters after giving a speech at a financial services company. "In the end, voters are not necessarily looking for someone to come in and save the day."emphasis mine

Umm . . you sure about that Mike?

we don't need Fred Thompson, Fred Thompson needs us. and right now I could see myself voting for Romney, Hunter, Huckabee, and maybe even McCain and Brownback, though they've dropped some (though following a rise for each, so they're about back to where they were) as soon as I would Thompson.

Andy Kaufman lip-syncing the Mighty Mouse theme song on SNL.

"We should scrap this “comprehensive” immigration bill and the whole debate until the government can show the American people that we have secured the borders -- or at least made great headway."

FYI: The consensus at National Review Online is that Rudy was the clear winner in tonight's debate.

Really? I thought Giuliani faded into the background. There was nothing memorable from him all night aside from the joke about God being pissed at him.

but this insistence on declaring him the winner of ever debate so far is extremely asinine. He needs to prove that he willing and capable of political sparring before I'll take him seriously. Riding around in his little red pickup truck won't cut it for the big leagues.

"I think the fence is least effective. But I'll build the god--d fence if they want it."--McCain
"I would rather have a clean government than one where quote First Amendment rights are being respected" --McCain

I thought Fred was OK on Fox not spectacular. He needs to get into the debates now to see if he can shift gears. Staying out of the fray from here on out will only hurt his campaign. His website is disappointing. No content. For someone who is going to run a non traditional campaign I would have expected a little more preparation on the web front for his launch.

Just because you have the right, doesn't mean you should.

Obviously I'm biased but with the political atmosphere being tough again in '08, I can really see McCain, Romney, and Rudy all performing well in the national. They all have "it". I guess I'm in the minority that isn't counting down the hours until Thompson's announcement.

We're making the internet fun again!

I think Fred has the right stuff, but a lot is going to depend on how he does when he finally comes out. Tonight on FNC, he was better, not spectacular, but each time he gets better.

I still have big trouble voting for gun banners, Rudy, Mitt and the like. I think the willingness to ban guns translates to a key belief in big government liberalism, and displays the lack of trust towards individuals to make their own decisions and take responsibility for their actions. We don't need or want collectivism in all it's forms, from forcing people to buy health insurance or making career decision for us.

What made our country great is individual freedoms, take that away and we turn into any one of the no name socialist European countries.

when asked if they would pardon Libby. I think it would have really killed the issue for the dems.
