You have *got* to read this article at TNR about the Ron Paul campaign.
James Kirchick writes what a lot of us have considered writing.
the newsletters I saw all had one thing in common: They were published under a banner containing Paul's name, and the articles (except for one special edition of a newsletter that contained the byline of another writer) seem designed to create the impression that they were written by him--and reflected his views. What they reveal are decades worth of obsession with conspiracies, sympathy for the right-wing militia movement, and deeply held bigotry against blacks, Jews, and gays. In short, they suggest that Ron Paul is not the plain-speaking antiwar activist his supporters believe they are backing--but rather a member in good standing of some of the oldest and ugliest traditions in American politics.

These newsletters have been around for decades. Paul has apologized for them and taken "moral responsibility" for them, although he says he did not write them and they do not reflect his views. They had his name on them, and his failure to read them and approve them was nobody's fault but his own.
I have not read the entire TNR article, but I've seen these in the past. Unless they've added some new stuff or included inflammatory hearsay, Paul will stick by his standard response of (to paraphrase) "Yep, they're my letters, but not my thoughts. Someone else wrote them in my newsletter. Sorry about that."
I still stand by a lot of his principles, but am beginning to think that there is just too much baggage to go along with the good.
His response is good enough for me. If Romney can be forgiven for his pro-abortion statements, McCain can be forgiven for his pro-"immigration forgiveness" (satisfied Leon?), and Rudy, well, Rudy still holds his pro-abortion views, then I can accept this from Paul.
Romney made some statements, while McCain tried his darndest to ram through comprehensive reform, insulted fellow conservatives in trying to ram it through, declared that they would ultimately succeed, and only after being thoroughly vanguished----announced a change in position.
Who as a synonym for Nordic use a word that refers to middle eastern peoples.

I see they need a "Life Is Really Not Fair" posting from Leon over there. The Ronulans are in full attack mode.

I'll be the first to say that Ron Paul has had to deal with this issue since 1999, and has disavowed that he wrote any of it, but he accepts responsibility for not giving oversight. That he let it happen without checking to see what was written lessens my opinion of him. However, I've known about this stuff for a good long while. I think his explanation is credible, but it's still a big black mark against him for not paying attention to what people were doing.
now, on to Kirchick's attitude, from a letter he sent about the article he was writing for the TNR:
"Hi Berin,
Thanks for writing; and I’m glad you enjoyed by [sic] piece in the Boston Globe. I’ll try and make the [DC Log Cabin Republicans] party tonight, though [LCR President] Patrick Sammon isn’t particularly happy with me after I wrote this piece [attacking LCR for not endorsing Giuliani, whom Kirchick calls "the most pro-gay Republican White House contender in history"]

Anyways, I don’t think Ron Paul is a homophobe; I’m just cynical and enjoy getting supporters of political candidates riled up. If you were a Giuliani guy I’d have called him a fascist. But I must say, the Ron Paul supporters are the most enthusiastic of the bunch! [Emphasis added.]
Best,
Jamie"

This afternoon on the JD Hayworth program (KFYI 550) an RP supporter actually told him that this was a plant to discredit Ron Paul because someone with his abilities could never be allowed to be the POTUS. The Pentaverate would not allow it.
YES!!!! The Pentaverate would not allow it. I nearly drove off the road laughing.
