Barack Obama Rejects Public Financing

We knew this was coming. We should not be surprised.

Barack Obama said he was for public financing of his campaign before he was against it. This is how he has run his campaign and handled every issue from Reverend Wright to the security threat that is Iran. Barack Obama is often one way before he is another way.

The man is incapable of holding to his word.

Not since Richard Nixon has a candidate not used the public financing system for the general election.

I know Barack Obama has said he wanted to replace the failed policies of the last eight years, but even I did not think he would replace them with Nixon.

I think our chances of winning just went from ~40% to less than 20%. Obama will now be able to buy himself out of his gaffes and his past associations with Wright, Ayers and Rezko. He will also be able to purchase a GOTV machine that will make the difference in OH, MI and PA.

It won't matter how many bitterclingers vote for McCain instead of Obama because every African American will vote 3 or 4 times.

If I didn't know better, I would say this was put up by a Moby trying to make Redstate look bad.

This is outside any acceptable zone, and it's not stuff that the moderators generally tolerate.

... with no backlash. C'mon, lefties, bring it on!

Isn't he on the hook to take federal funds since he used them as collateral on a personal loan? There might be some legal nuance that would allow him to forgoe public financing but then he's got that hanging over his head too and it's a wash with the Obama flip-flop on federal funds.

... about that. Well, what we need to go is hit the grassroots the same way Obama's been doing. He's making this argument because he had, what, two million small donors or something? We can do the same, we just have to work for it. Donate it to the RNC, or to local candidates so the RNC can funnel money where it's more needed.

Brad Smith has done the analysis. McCain will be fine.

Besides, as every election goes by, more and more work will be done by outside groups on both sides.

Another predictable move from a man with obvious ambition. Correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't every major candidate since 1976 accepted public funding for the general?

"Stand up, and let's acquit ourselves like men."

Well by Iblis

Considering all the ridiculous things Barry has said, it's probably a good thing that his mind is so easily changed. Who knows? Maybe by November Barry will sound more conservative than McCain. Wouldn't be hard to do...

Crickets chirping.....

Obama gives a good 527 more ammunition than a battleship carried. Where do I send my money?

Drill...Drill...Drill!!!

Grrr I can hear George Soros laughing in delight from my 42nd Street office.

Wonder how many of his mail room boys making $20,000 a year will be donating $2,300 to Obama.

Let's hope he does that because just like the Clinton fund raiser did, Soros would be going to prison.

He'd just flee to another country. Most of his money is in offshore accounts and he already should be taken up by a world court for what he's done to many other countries and they economy. He'd just move to Bahrain.

I have a feeling obama is using this latest gimmick to boost his online donation as the main purpose. His online fundraising appeared to have reached the plaeteu. He’s using this gamble to ask his followers to pitch in more.

Remember, Clinton's online fundraising only took off when the words started to spread that she was near broke and had to loan her campaign her own money.

Obama shouldn't be expected to follow through on big promises. Those can be hard!

Instead, he's focusing on the little promises, like his commitment to give up smoking for the election. Oh wait...crap... never mind.

Taking public financing in the general election is not an issue that has turned on high morals. It was a simple math exercise - taking into account the value of candidate's time, the cost of raising money, and the amount of money that could be raised, this is the first year where it has paid anyone to take on the burden of raising money for the general campaign. Before, it was always better to accept a big fat trouble free check from Uncle Sam.

The Democrats, who in eras past could only gaze wistfully at Republican fundraising figures, have tried on occasion to make a virtue of necessity, criticizing Republicans for opting out in the primaries, but you can bet that if Bill Clinton had seen a political advantage in foregoing public funding in a general election, he would have done it in a heartbeat.

What's really remarkable here is not that Obama made this choice. It's that he could make this choice. McCain, legal technicalities aside, couldn't possibly raise enough money fast enough to make turning down a sure $85 million anything other than idiocy.

Go figure. A non-incumbent Democrat setting fundraising records, and blazing new trails in lavish campaign spending. Who woulda thunk it just a few short years ago? I think this year is an aberration that won't last, but if it's the start of a new era in terms of who can raise large green, we are in for some hurt.

there should be a permanent tagged blog just for Obama Flip flops and lies that we could add to every day so the RNC research team could go to it in September and we can do their job for them. Since it appears no one on the right is actually cataloguing or letting the American people know about the truth of what Obama is about.

"Small town folks get bitter after which they cling to guns or religion, or antipathy to people who aren't like them, or anti-immigrant sentiment"- Barack Carter Obama
