Eric Egland Smacks Down John Doolittle

I've got great news to report out in California 4.

The numbers are in and Eric Egland has delivered the smack down to John Doolittle.

Doolittle raised only $50,308.00 with more than half of that coming from PACs. He now has cash on hand of $37,995.10.

Compare that to Eric Egland.

With our help, Eric raised $79,000.00 and he now has cash on hand of $70,000.00!

That's great work.

“The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men."

what then do you call the fact that cartoon character Charlie Brown raised more than 200K? By my calculation that would be a, I dunno, smackdown times five? Nah, there has to be something more poetic.

For Egland to beat him by 15 points.

...even those these guys are embroiled in scandal, it can still be difficult to unseat an incumbant in your own party. Is there any polling data available on this, or is there anyone who knows what the sentiment is like in CA-4?

So, yeah, there's a realistic shot. :)

The Fuzzy Puppy of the VRWC. I've been usurped!

Doolittle stands a good chance of losing most likely. However, I am asking if Egland has a chance at unseating Doolittle in the PRIMARY.

A primary challenger just declared for Young's seat. A slew of Young Turks who get into power by opposing pork barreling corruption would be great for the GOP and would be great PR for the GOP.

Since Alaska adores GOV Palin (R) and her anti-pork stance, it would be nice to see the House seat or Stevens Senate seat change hands to an anti-porker. That would be a real shift in AK politics and would help with the slowly degrading GOP brand.

to Benson or Berkowitz. LeDoux is totally unknown outside her district. The days of just having an R behind your name being enough in Alaska are gone; thanks to the FBI.

Wish all you rock-ribbed fiscal conservatives - and the FBI - could find some of the same ardor for truly corrupt states, but I guess taking on Democrats might be a little tougher.

We have to start regenerating the brand name sometime, and we can't do that as long as we sit by and let the nogoodniks run unopposed.

he'll stand down or the Party will stand him down. My money is that the Seattle FBI will keep the "investigation" going into the election without bringing an indictment, then it will be Hell to pay and you can expect a Democrat to represent AK in the next Congress. Once that's accomplished, I expect the FBI to lose interest in Young. And we may all be permitted to wonder who's running USDOJ.

But when we can't even get a Senator to leave after a GUILTY PLEA...

not the people on this blog, as is the case with Young. If the Caucus doesn't want to accept someone, that's its prerogative and it can deprive that person of committees and other positions, but it isn't the business of other states or the Party to dictate who a State chooses to represent it in Congress.

Preston Brooks did it right. After caning Sumner (think it was Sumner, some Yankee anyway), he resigned his seat and went home and stood for Congress. The People of South Carolina overwhelmingly re-elected him and provided him with a lifetime supply of canes.

I feel much the same way about Young and Stevens. So long as they're not convicted of a crime, I'm fine with them. And so long as the United States continues to prevent Alaska from developing and profiting from its resources, whomever I send to DC will be specifically charged with doing their utmost to loot the federal Treasury. If the Country likes the damned caribou so much, they can pay for it.

As far as I can tell, the Constitution doesn't give the people of Idaho a say on whether Sen. Craig should have more free time at stallknockers.com. Nor does it give Alaskans a say on whether Rep. Young should resign to fight off the accusations against him.

No, as far as I can tell the only way those people can be excused early against their will is if the other members of their respective houses of Congress vote to expel these members.

So under the Constitution, Idaho and Alaska voters have the LEAST say with respect to resignation, becuase it's up to the OTHER members of Congress to start the explusion process.

It would take a conviction or guilty plea before I'd even consider expelling Rep. Young as the right thing to do.

Might be fun to watch the Democrats deal with Craig. Odds are that if it came to that Craig would be seated and Young would be expelled.

As Neil says, the state electorates have no say in forcing resignations. They can, of course, re-elect someone. But they don't have the say as to whether someone is accepted as a Republican or not. That's a freedom of association issue. Other Republicans do not have to accept any Rep. or Senator in their party.

And other people on this blog, and elsewhere, are free to comment on any issue they like. And raise funds for candidates they support against candidates they don't support.

But poll numbers in the toilet cause lots of politicians to want to "spend more time with my family." Last I looked, neither party had membership requirements; you declare yourself. If you're elected, neither the body nor the caucus has to accept you.

And while everyone has a right to comment and contribute within legal bounds, any politician worth his grip n'grin knows how to rail against outside and special interests, often to good effect.

1. She talks about working across the isle. What issues will she be working across the isle on, exactly??

2. Her website brags about all the state pork she brought back to her district.

Uh...this doesn't sound much better than Don Young on policy issues. We might get a more ethical, pork-loving female Don Young in congress. Great.

Hopefully the Club for Growth is beating the bushes for candidates to knock Don Young and Ted Stevens out.

Sure being more ethical is great, but being pork hungry is what corrupted Don Young in the first place. She may be more ethical now, but if she goes down the same path as Don Young, who is to say when won't get the same results on the ethics front in years to come.

This is a great opportunity to get a Republican who is ethical and great on policy. It doesn't look like she is the one for that, so I'll just continue to shop around for now. See if a conservative will jump in the race.

on this board. When the landmass most consider to be your state is over 80% Federal and Indian land, we have something in common. When only 1% of the land in your state is in private hands, we have something in common. When decisions about development, public or private, in your state are more likely to be made in San Francisco, DC, London, or even Riyadh than in your state capital, we have something in common. When the vast bulk of federal spending in your state is for the fed's own purposes, e.g., defense, federal Indians, federal waters, federal parks, federal wilderness areas, federal air and maritime navigation systems, we have something in common. When only seven of the towns and cities in your state have land access to the continental road system, we have something in common. When federal law forces all seaborne cargo going to your state to travel on a Jones Act monopoly shipper with a union crew, we have something in common. I can go on awhile.

St. Louis Conservative-
Yes, someone did some polling and it got passed around on background to a few reporters and bloggers. The main thing that got out into the public was that Doolittle's negatives were well over 50%. That is virtually impossible to recover from. It means everyone know you, has made up their opinion of you, and they dont like you.

That's very good for Egland.

We need him to win this primary. Hopefully Republican electorate in CA04 won't make the same dismal error that Kentucky Republicans made last year!!
