Fratigue Sufferers To Find Respite

The Announcement cometh

By haystack Posted in Comments (18) / Email this page » / Leave a comment »

In a radio interview in Richmond with guest-host George Allen (yeah-THAT George Allen):

[E]verybody seems to be announcing a lot earlier than normal, but he's operating on a more traditional time frame. He says the law allows potential candidates to take some time to get their organization together, raise money and assess public reaction.

He said, quote, "We're not allowed to announce before we announce, but I can tell you that it won't be very many more days before I'll be making a statement on it."

Now, those of you who (like me) suffer from a snidge of "Fratigue™, take heart. The announcement is rumored to be subtle, quick, and in-line with a normal day of talking about where he stands on America and the issues we face as a nation.

And, it is rumored he will announce his candidacy TOMORROW.

He isn't looking for cameras and parades. He's looking to do a few things for the country that need doing, and that he thinks only a President can do.

For those of you that forgot he already said he had made his mind up, but was waiting for the right moment, consider the costs associated with running for President. Why burn up early dollars, when you can quietly go about determining if there's even an INTEREST in America in a Thompson Presidency..he has saved a lot of the former, and clearly believes there is a sufficient amount of the latter.

Expect the standard pot-shots from the media, and his opponents within the GOP.

Expect him to come out swinging at all of the above.

Let the gaaaames beeeegin!

Who among us wouldn't LOVE to see the GOP candidates (and maybe the female Dem candidates) climb all over themselves to convince us THEY are the one true conservative running in the race?

My keyboard trembles...heh

Conservatives (and Presidential Candidates especially) shall offer no aid and comfort to the opposition in times of legislative conflict (and ensuing political campaigns).

Only those of us who are obsessed with politics are suffering from any fratigue.

Those who suffer from fratigue are three times as likely to suffer withdrawal sometime around the middle of November every two years. (My withdrawal was compounded by depression this past November).

Still, in both '04 and '06, I got some great "fixes," and in '05 we had not just one, but two Supreme Court nominations (with the highlight being the withdrawal of H. Miers' nomination--I truly shouted for joy in my car when I heard the news).

What do we have in '07? I have to admit, I'm gonna find this year's "election" extremely unsatisfying, even in Jindhal is elected Governor-for-life of Louisiana. We'll be lucky if we get more than two polls per WEEK in the Louisiana and Kentucky governors' races, and maybe a debate or two for each race. Can't France have another election, or maybe could we have a Sup. Court vacancy???

Come January (or even December), I will be giddy once again, and my wife will start asking why I need to check realclearpolitics and other sites for polls for the fourth time in the same day.

What she didn't understand back in the fall of '04, is that you get (1) Zogby in the AM, (2) Rasmussen late morning, (3) typically some poll (Fox, Gallup, or NBC) in the early afternoon, and then (4) the ABCnews tracking poll in the early evening.

Back to the main topic. Yes, I got fratigue. But no, it's not hurting his candidacy, because most of our fellow citizens are sane.

all I can say is

I heart you

:-)

in a manly sorta way, of course

"There is a tide in the affairs of men, Which taken at the flood, leads on to fortune. Omitted, all the voyage of their life is bound in shallows and in miseries. On such a full sea are we now afloat. And we must take the current when it serves, or lose our ventures."

Well it's before Labor Day -- Let the games begin...

Mr. Stack

A bit twisted, but I've enjoyed the build-up, speculation and anticipation surrounding you-know-who. Leaving "them" dangling in the wind and sweating THE announcement has been rather enjoyable and I could have waited even longer just for that.

I've always enjoyed suspense flicks.

Fred is scheduled to speak tomorrow night in Indy at the Midwest Republican Leadership Conference. Would he make his "announcement" there or rather back home in Nashville?

I've been hoping he'd announce before he was even considering running, but the timing of this seems strange to me.

Maybe he will have Peyton Manning throw the hat for him?

Well, I guess my saturday is planned now.

Taternuggets

...would make a great bumber sticker.

haystack, one might think from your post that Fred might announce from his website, imwithfred.com tomorrow. I'm sure that would stir the pot for the MSM media to chant "no fire in the belly", but who cares!

How about tossing us another crumb haystack! :0)

Run, Fred, Run!

You know, I'm not so much suffering from fratigue as I am wondering what the fred all the fuss is about.

I look at Thompson's voting record in the Senate, and I see that he was unremarkable in many ways. Where he WAS remarkable, he was so for reasons that folks on this site rip McCain apart over (see, e.g., campaign finance reform, which as I recall was known as "McCain-Feingold-Thompson" until the third author was dropped for brevity).

That's not so bad, and I would be fine with an unremarkable record in the Senate -- in no small part because he was awesome in Hunt for Red October.

But in all seriousness, here's what really gets me about Fred: After 9-11 he QUIT. He went home, decided to do TV, stayed behind the scenes. He could have help lead in the darkest hour we've seen in generations, and he decided to hang it up.

I don't take issue with the retirement, but I do think it calls into question Fred's qualifications for the presidency.

with why he left DC. His daughter died from a "drug-overdose-induced coma" in 2002.

Fred will meet with reporters at 4pm before his speech at 7pm EST which will be carried LIVE on C-SPAN. Romney's and Huckabee's speaches will be re-run after the speech. I don't believe they were carried live but I could be wrong.

Sounds like an announcement of some sort to me.

haystack,

You made our day when you came out with your post about the rumor of a Fred announcement. When the big announcement does make it your way, we'll be waiting! We needed a trial practice! :0)

I agree with an earlier comment. The only people who are anxious about Fred announcing are the political junkies.

Better to have everything in place, be comfortable with your staff and framework than stumble.

Those who have been pounding the drums about him announcing would also pound the drums if he announced too soon and was not ready.

And since when is early September too late? Perhaps we may start hearing from 2012 cadidates in January.

California's largest grassroots effort to support Fred Thompson for president.

Once upon a time, you didn't RUN for President. You allowed your name to be offered up, and instead of running around puffing up your chest, you did business as usual. Your supporters did the puffery for you. Much more humble that way.

In away, what FDT is doing right now is as close to that as we're going to get these days.
