There is some denial, but Fred Thompson's entry into the GOP Presidential nominating race seems all but certain.
The Palmetto Scoop sends:
WSMV-TV Nashville has just broken the news that former Sen. Fred Thompson
(R-Tenn.) will formally toss his hat in the ring in the GOP presidential
race at a press conference scheduled for next Tuesday.
Fred's announcement will be at the Fall School Building in Nashville, home to an office for Lamar! Alexander.
Thompson's peeps deny that Tuesday's announcement will be an official one for a WH bid, but WMSV has:
"Everything's in place for Tuesday [sic]," the source told WSMV. "There are three major events built around his announcement." But Bob Davis, the Tennessee Republican Party Chairman, and Thompson's former Chief of Staff says "There will not be an announcement [sic] Tuesday."
The source also told WSMV that the Fall School building will be home to Fred's national HQ.
Fred's in.

UPDATE: From A. C. Kleinheider at Volunteer Voters comes this caveat:
That’s what you get for listening to Dennis Ferrier. The text of the article on WSMV website is already morphing from an announcement of his official candidacy to an announcement of his national headquarters. Tuesday will not be the BIG DAY.
He sees Tuesday as the day Fred will announce his National HQ, not his candidacy. I'm sorry, but if he tells us that the Fall School building in Nashville will be the national HQ of his Presidential campaign, he is certainly in. The "official announcement" is garnish. Fred's in.

I kind of like the idea of Fred Thompson as the GOP nominee for President with running mate Rudy Giuliani at his side. Remember the Reagan/Bush ticket rationale? Similar idea here.

to run of the ticket with Reagan. If Fred Thompson is what I hope he is, he would demand the same of Rudy. And Rudy would decline. He could not plausibly accept.
For Fred to be what you (and I) hope he is doesn't necessitate him demanding Rudy become pro-life. By the way, I am firmly pro-life and have been for 27 years. This is a different time. Terrorism is the big issue and will be in 2008. Rudy comes aboard as the guy who will be the point man on that front. Rudy already has said he would appoint judges ala Scalia, etc. I think what Rudy would need to do is not become pro-life, but to come to the position that Roe v. Wade was and is bad law. [There are "pro-choice" legal scholars that take that position. Over-turning Roe v. Wade puts it back in the democratic/legislative arena at the state level, where it should be] It could be an honest position move on Rudy's part while at the same time removing most objections from the pro-life people.

No really, this is a very good thing.
Looking forward to actually saying 'candidate' Thompson without the 'potential/presumptive/likely/potential/etc.' label.
I'm a FredHead, but his Kabuki Dance, revealing small bits of when and where he's going to announce the campaign as he's getting ready to run is getting a tad old.
Fred's not the "Tidal Basin Bombshell"....aka Fanny Fox and the dance of revealing his campaign bit by bit is not something I like. Besides all that, Rudy in Drag was bad enough, the mental picture Fred doing the Kabuki dance is just one picture too far.
Just Run Fred Run! See Fred Run!

The Fall School building was the former campaign HQ for the Corker Senate campaign as well. It's a great building for an HQ. I hope he does do it on Tuesday, as I'll be there next week.
Donate to Fred Thompson's Campaign right here...you know you want to!

Fred is running about $10,000 an hour in contributions ... Fred's my man. Now if he would grab Steele as VP it would be the dream ticket.
