Hacking John McCain
Beware the "series of tubes"

Poor John McCain. Maybe it's because he is old. He might actually buy Ted Steven's description of the internet as “a series of tubes.” He clearly does not know how to place nice with the internet. The latest bout of ignorance on parade involves his MySpace Page.
The template he used was created by Mike Davidson, a talented guy who knows his internet. He's a co-founder of Newsvine.com. Well, not only did McCain take the template, but he also used Mike's graphics without permission. Mike, who inspired the title of this post, decided to retaliate. Below is the graphic that, for a short time, appeared on John McCain's MySpace page.
You almost feel sorry for McCain. Almost.
UPDATED: Striving to be fair and balanced, we should point out that at least McCain's MySpace, did not pose a security/privacy risk for site users.

But I also think the candidate is responsible for his campaign. Though clearly, I think, this is a matter that he probably has not even heard of and I'd venture to guess he's never even been on his MySpace page.
I think McCain would say that his "MySpace" is an 8,000 sf (give or take a tad) house in Phoenix...

is overmatched by the pace of change in this century. You can see it in McCain-Feingold, in his faith in the NYT/MSM, and in his apparent conviction that Ted Kennedy is his friend. He's living in the past.
It's a nice place, that past of his, but the present has a lot to offer, too.

though to say something positive for Senator McCain, he gave a powerful speech against the pork and surrender fest in the Senate today and is currently on Michael Medved's show doing very well.
Every issue that would make the front page of RedState, John McCain is on the right side about.
Except for Campaign Finance Reform. And that is only on the front page of RedState in order to bash John McCain.
Your statement is foolish at best, Spiker. The fight against CFR/McCain-Feingold has been one of Redstate's most enduring and successful fights, and stretches back nearly to the founding of the site.

but basically I agree. he does take a lot of unnecessarily hedged positions that often are right in their practical effects, but give the media a field day bashing us in the perception department, which is frustrating (his "torture" stance for one, because it helped perpetuate the lie that we condoned torture before).
on CFR, I think his heart is in the right place, but his cure ended up being worse than the disease. on immigration, I'm not a Buchananite, and find it frustrating that so many dishonestly call anything that doesn't round up 10 million people and deport them "amnesty," but I do have serious issues with McCain-Kennedy. but neither is near the top of my list of most important issues, so while my differences on them are major enough not to vote for him in the primary in all likelihood, I would have no qualms about voting for him in the general.
to terrorists at Gitmo, closing Gitmo and moving the prisoners to US soil, and of course his opposition to the tax rate cuts that have spurred the economy. And his opposition to drilling in ANWR. And his acceptance of AGW as a true tenant and thus we need to ratify Kyoto.

McCain was also one of Bush's staunchest GOP critics on tax cuts... sure, he's not for tax increases (as far as we know), but his lack of faith in a very powerful form of economic stimulus (which tends to lead to an expanded economy and even more tax revenue) is a bit misguided.
"I could explain, but that would be very long, very convoluted, and make you look very stupid. Nobody wants that... except maybe me."
As a webmaster who has had images hotlinked, this is funny. I think the McCain camp is lucky that it was just a funny image swapped in when it could have been something much more obscene.
But it does bring up a bigger question, why do politicians spend millions on TV ads, high priced consultants, speech writers, then skimp on their net team. It reminds me of the Joe Lieberman campaign purchasing a $10/month shared hosting plan for their website and crying foul when it was overloaded on election day.
Politicians need to start taking their internet image a little more serious. While it was an innocent joke, this could have been much more devious.
After all, there are a lot worse images he could have put in there-- I'm thinking of the ones that used to be up at goatse.cx (wiki article about that site-- warning, explicit descriptions).

I doubt any of the candidates are personally doing the web portals. This is probably the fault of McCain's web development team. Pretty funny, though.
