In Which Campaign Trail Arguments Are Contradicted By Life Stories

Magic Johnson has gotten out on the campaign trail and he is supporting Hillary Clinton for the Presidency. Here's why:

Magic Johnson doesn't trust rookies to win a basketball game, much less lead the nation.

"You don't want somebody in there that is young or a rookie at politics," Johnson said Tuesday at a raucous rally in support of presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton. "We want somebody in there that knows what they're doing because this job is so huge."

Johnson, a former star with the NBA's Los Angeles Lakers, joined with former President Bill Clinton to promote the New York senator's campaign. Implicit in Johnson's comments was the suggestion that Hillary Clinton had more experience than her rivals Barack Obama, who has served in the U.S. Senate since January 2005 and John Edwards, who spent one term as a senator.

Speaking in a packed high school gymnasium, Johnson kept up the comparisons between basketball and politics.

"The more I practiced the better I became," said Johnson, who won five NBA championships with the Lakers. "That's why I support Senator Clinton, because she is the only one with 30 years of experience."

I strongly suggest that the Obama campaign counter by pointing out that when Magic Johnson was a rookie, he won an NBA Championship against the Philadelphia 76ers. And he won it by substituting for an injured--and experienced--Kareem Abdul-Jabbar at center in Game 6 of the NBA Finals.

I mean, that's what I'd say. If I was advising the Obama campaign, of course.

isnt even experienced to begin with. What has she accomplished in the 30 years she claims experience for? Nothing. She is simply a politician's politician, and a political hack if there ever was one.

Yet another reason I'm glad you're NOT advising the Obama campaign.

Clearly Magic Johnson is confused, or owes the Clinton's a favor that has been called. Obama has as much experience if not more as does Hillary. If playing host to world leaders at the Whitehouse during state visits accounts for experience, then she must have performed really poorly because there was a lot going on in that house than she imagined. Monica!!

Obama has more experience as a legislator, having started his career in the Illinois Senate and worked his way to DC. While she was feeding off her husband’s popularity and with the convenient death of JFK Jr. to win the New York senate seat, Obama was toiling the ground and earning his way up the political corporate ladder.

If the extra years she has in the senate is anything to brag about, she should table her accomplishments as far as introducing bills and working them through to the Whitehouse and obtaining a signature. The way I interpret her experience in DC. is as having spent enough time to learn the language of "Make noise, Do nothing"! Is this the kind of leader who would usher in the necessary changes?

The list goes on, and on; without delving into her troubling and scary past which can be read in the following website:

I wonder how much of Clinton's endorsements are the result of the Clinton Investigative Agencies efforts.

Hillary has zero years experience at being President, just like Obama. Let's look at it this way: Her Senate experience is the equivalent of Magic Johnson playing college ball. Her years as first lady are like High school ball. That's it. NO real experience in the pros. She merely sat on the sidelines while the real professionals did the work.

Electing her based on her experience is like putting the water boy in to play forward based on his experience.

but I also distinctly remember the NBA Championship the Lakers won when he was a rookie (and that they might not have won without him) when I was reading the post, and I was wondering what he was thinking when he said that you don't trust rookies, as they Lakers obviously did with him... Did he think that we would not remember an blatant exception to what he was espousing?

As a former Bostonian, 1970 to 1986, let me poiont out that the reason the Lakers won five rings had much more to do with playing the Western Conference than it did with their players. If you'll recall, the WC was the place where "physical" was something you got once from a doctor at the beginning of the season. In the EC, it was something you got every night under the boards from guys who sharpened their elbows before every game. If the Lakers had had to play in the EC, their whole wussy team would have been trying to "run and gun" on crutches and they might have managed one of those rings.

The lesson, and the threadjack, endeth.

...I'm reminded of your quote attributing your success to your "work ethnic" and I just have to smile.

I am puzzled by the contradiction of a successful capitalist like Magic Johnson supporting a big government socialist like Hillary. I guess consistency isn't a pre-requisite for a seat on the celebrity political bandwagon.

Don't let the Dems onto the "Hillary is experienced" fallacy ... not until we bash them on the head with it during the general election. Oh Pleeeeeeez nominate Hillary! Bring on the 44% negatives!
