It's a real pity Dodd isn't running for President anymore.
And by "running for President" I mean "engaging in a fruitless search for relevance."

If he was, this'd be more relevant:
In case you're wondering, it was the telecom industry that he was comparing to Nazis: amusingly, it seems to have escaped his noticed that if the telecoms are Nazis for working with the administration, then the administration must be Nazis, too - and, hey, what does Senator Chris Dodd do for a living? That's right, he works with the administration. He's not, say, out in the countryside shooting the military governor of Topeka and stocking up for the Liberation. He's right there in Washington DC, implicitly supporting the Bush Regime's claim to legitimacy! He's just like the telecoms!
[stunned look] It's all terrifyingly clear, now. Chris Dodd is confessing to being a Nazi!
[pause]
I know, I know: there's no real sport to this, anymore. Oh, well, maybe we'll get lucky and the Democrats will decide that he'd be a perfect Vice Presidential pick.

What in the world is Dodd babbling about. He sounds like an idiot. We are talking about immunity for telecoms who work with the government tracking overseas calls to terrorists who want to nuke our cities, poison our waters, blow up car bombs in rural towns and basically KILL EVERYONE IN AMERICA!
Is he this beholden to left-wing 527s and donors that he would risk the protection of citizens of the United States just to score points with the Kos, DU, MoveOn and HuffPost crowd?!?
Seriously... is he this insane or just this stupid?
Heck, why can't it be both!

Shays' performance during the steroids hearings, you'd think all of us up here in CT were idiots...
...Chris Dodd is a Communist agent posing as a Senator from the ultraliberal state of Connecticut, where the state Government provides free Viagra, Levitra, and Cialis to its HIV positive clients, allowing them unfettered opportunity to further spread their disease, thus endlessly creating more clients who depend on the Nanny State, just to prove how humane the Democrats are as well as garner more votes for these big hearted local politicians in the upcoming elections.
Dodd's performance against the John Bolton UN Ambassador nomination in the Senate Committe hearings was pure political retribution against the Bush Administration for ferretting out, convicting, and sentencing a Cuban mole embedded in the CIA.
Add to that the episode of Chris Dodd's public display of tears alongside Bianca Jagger when Daniel Ortega lost the Nicaraguan elections and his untiring works to undermine Ronald Reagan and Ollie North's efforts to remove the Sandanista cancer from Central America and you get a picture of who Chris Dodd really is. Bosom buddy of Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez as well as open armed admirer of every aspiring Latin American Communist, but laissez faire in regards to the security of the people of the United States and Connecticut, one has to wonder how many ex KGB agents, as well, were on this politician's Friends and Family calling list during his nefarious past.
Dodd was not comparing the telecom companies with the Nazis (or children--his other comparison) with respect to the gravity of the offense, but with respect to the justification or excuse for the offense.
By your account, you could as easily charge Dodd with comparing naughty children with the Nazis, or conversely, suggesting that the Nazis are no worse than naughty children.
At the same time, it's always a bad idea to invoke the Nazis with reference to anyone other than them, unless one is discussing evil of a similar magnitude.

Operator: Hello, this is AT&T.
Dodd: I'd like to speak with Joseph Goebbels. That's G-o-e-b-b-e-l-s.
Operator: City and state, please.
Dodd: Oh, I think you already know that. Don't you?
Operator: Please stop playing with your phone or I'll report you to your mother.
Dodd: He's right there with you, isn't he? Say "Palomino" if you can't talk.
Operator: I'm hanging up now.
