It's the War, Stupid. No, wait, It's the Economy, Stupid.

Hey, let's open the Clinton Playbook again. After all, with the way the war is going, the Democrats won't be able to play on that field any more, so they are doing that which is second nature to them -- retreating.

And where are they retreating? I'm glad you asked.

Americans have turned markedly gloomier about the economy in recent months, a shift that is reshaping a presidential campaign long dominated by the war in Iraq and national security concerns.

Higher prices for gasoline and home heating oil, stock market volatility and rising mortgage foreclosures all account for some of the pessimism, in the view of political pollsters.

Maybe if they keep throwing things out there eventually something will stick.

Seems that the media is simply tossing campaign "themes" up for the Democrats to run with - hoping like crazy that something will "catch" with the electorate.

Gotta wonder if they'll run out of mems before they run out of time. Sadly, I think not.

It could be 1992 all over again, the bad economy riff that helped Bill into that massage parlor to be, known to most as the White House.

But it really isn't the Clinton play book. it's the media's, same as '92. They don't make a burning issue of it, it doesn't fly. They will, after six years of economic health, hand it to the Democrats on a silver platter.

Note an earlier post on Bill losing control due to Hillary's campaign faltering, raging, throwing out "dozens of ideas", this isn't the product of an organized mind that follows a play book. As for Hillary,if left to her own she would foul up a free lunch.

"Everything was going just fine until Democrats took over Congress in 2007"

And people need to start doing it now.

I agree with Darin, We need to start blaming the Democrat controlled Congress just like they blamed the Republican controlled Congress prior to 2007.

If those same stock traders that have bid up oil to near $100 a barrel saw that the U.S. was seriously considering opening up all our "off the table" areas to oil development. The price of oil wouldn't be half of what it is now.
