Joe Biden Combats AIDS

Joe Biden has to be my favorite candidate in the current field of Democrat presidential wannabes. Who else can come up with truly entertaining stuff like this from last night's debate at predominantly black Howard University:
A question on the high rate of HIV infection among African American teens triggered the liveliest exchange when Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr. of Delaware said: "I spent last summer going through the black sections of my town, holding rallies in parks, trying to get black men to understand it is not unmanly to wear a condom, getting women to understand they can say no, getting people in the position where testing matters. I got tested for AIDS. I know Barack got tested for AIDS."
I'm not saying Joe Biden is a liar (or that he and Barack Obama have anything more than vigorous man-love going on between them) but I'm willing to pay good money for video of Joe Biden holding a use-a-condom rally in a black neighborhood somewhere in Delaware.

Good Lord in Heaven, hear my prayer: make such a video available.
wrote the very script himself back in 1984.

I can't think of a better example of why sometimes birth control is a good idea.
But then we would miss all the buffoonery. I am truly vexed.

I bet that THAT part of Biden's personal pitch was extremely successful.
On a more venturesome note, I bet Biden's preachments scared Obama straight. :>)
It made good sense to call out Clinton for her ignorant remarks on AIDS and assertion of a lack of "outcry" in spite of massive federal funding to the contrary, but this one is a head scratcher.
"I spent last summer going through the black sections of my town, holding rallies in parks, trying to get black men to understand it is not unmanly to wear a condom, getting women to understand they can say no, getting people in the position where testing matters. I got tested for AIDS. There’s no shame in being tested for AIDS."
In one sound bite you have someone calling for personal responsibility among black males, pointing out the relevance of choosing abstinance, and trying to de-stigmatize the act of undergoing testing. Are those liberal viewpoints worthy of derision or conservative viewpoints? Or just plain common sense?
that's a rhetorical question. Of course you believe Joe Biden held use-condom rallies in black neighborhoods because otherwise your comment makes no sense.
All I'm saying is show me the video.

If the post was really all about your disbelief that Joe Biden ever actually attended some kind of rally in Delaware and advocated black citizens with the positions he claimed to, then why the "I'm not saying Joe Biden is a liar"? Just be blunt with it, you're certainly not in enemy territory, afterall!
Of course you believe Joe Biden held use-condom rallies in black neighborhoods because otherwise your comment makes no sense.
Really? By that logic I guess you must think he's a liar, otherwise your comment makes no sense, right? C'mon...
Whether he did or didn't (lack of a video hardly proves he didn't, while absence of evidence means we can't know if he really did), the content of the statement in question strikes me as unusual given it's coming from a (D). From my perspective the important take away was "Democratic Presidential Candidate takes Conservative Position: Calls for Personal Responsibility in Black Community, Advocates for Abstinence".
In other words, you had a liberal candidate espousing what I'd tend to think are conservative ideas in a public transcripted debate, in front of a predominantly black audience. How did that audience react to his statement? That seems more intriguing to me than whether he really did it or not, but I'll grant you that although I don't know either way (which is the logical position that I presume we actually share), and don't have a belief either way (which I presume puts us at odds), if he did lie then I'd be grateful to see you expose him with some evidence. Delaware has a 20% black population which exceeds the national average of ~13%, BTW, so it's not like it's patently impossible for this to have taken place.
Is Biden a pariah in the black community such that you think he wouldn't attend such rallies? Do you think that it's absurd to imagine a rally taking place in a black community where condom use and AIDS are discussed, or just that if such rallies do take place, there's no way Biden would ever have been there or said such things?
when you start writing stories instead of sharpshooting what others do you'll have earned the right to provide literary critique.
The idea of a US Senator holding rallies on the use of rubbers striks me as patently ridiculous, not to mention a waste of his time.
Listen to the video at Mark Kilmer's link for how the audience reacted.

in that (some suspect) that his evil inner element yearns to say what many of us believe: Biden probably isn't so much a liar as he is a BUFFOON: Liars are much more malicious than some poor self-besotted mannequin who believes every word he has ever spoken - whether or not he ever spoke them.
He is a kabuki player - without either the make-up or the costume.
Poor Devil!!
If there was Biden video... and I'd bet the farm there isn't. It would look like this.
Biden: "Boys... (because what Bidenism doesn't have a racial faux pas right off the bat?) this is a condom. If you were hanging out in school you would have been able to get these free at the health clinic."
Biden: "It's no big deal... well for some it might be bigger than others (laughs). You know what I'm talking about."
"But what I'm trying to say is that if even if you have to go to a... (has the 7-11 flashback) any 24 hour store and get one. It's not... a big deal... I mean messy."
(opens condom... it's lubricated so his hands get all messy; gives some assistant a look of helplessness)
Biden: "Well see you take that and put it on your Johnson... Jackson... Mr. Humpty... whatever your pet name is for it. And you slide it on like so."
(manages to get slide the thing on a cucumber with help from the assistant... she's totally embarrassed and he's completely clueless of how unprofessional this looks.)
Biden: "See there... you might need some help. But there you go... no Aids for your aid... aider. Thanks Susie. Ummm... no matter who you are hooking up with homey."
(proudly holds up the cucumber wrapped in the greasy condom... then puts on the coup de grace and grabs a black sharpy and starts to color the condom black scribbling like crazy and not even registering the shocked inhale of breath from all 7 people that are there watching this fiasco)
Biden: "And when you're done with it... it will look like something like this."
(proudly displays blackened member... as the aid comes in swoops the 'teaching device' away and throws it into the garbage)

He needs to work the "I'm from a slave state!" bit in there somewhere, though.

Can you imagine the firestorm from the media if a Republican had said those things?
when you start writing stories
I know, I know, you've prodded me before. The thought has crossed my mind in the past, eventually it will break out.
The idea of a US Senator holding rallies on the use of rubbers striks me as patently ridiculous, not to mention a waste of his time.
That's fair enough, I understand where you're coming although I don't agree completely. It's not absurd for Senators to take some kind of leadership/advocacy position on such issues. And to be honest my gut feeling is that most all politicians are probably lying most of the time, but I try to stamp down that gut feeling and consider them objectively, which includes taking a default neutral position on their truthfulness sans evidence. At least in this instance what he actually advocated for struck me as uncharacteristically "conservative", and I mistook his stated position as the target of your post rather than the potential that he never actually attended any rallies as he asserted.

What exactly does he mean by "getting people in the position where testing matters" (sounds sketchy to me!)

Hot Air has the vid of Barack Obama, after Joe Biden's AIDS answer last night, remind the audience that he's not gay.
I didn't watch, and I don't wish I had. I'm getting the good stuff here in the right blosophere.
[NOTE: The video in the post I linked opens with Joe Biden speaking the words which Streiff quotes in the parent note. Obama's utterance is in response.]
