Yes We Can Poke Fun At Andrew Sullivan

Thank Heavens for this blog post, which makes an exceedingly valuable observation concerning Andrew Sullivan's surprise recommendation that Barack Obama choose Hillary Clinton as his running mate:

I had thought that Mr Sullivan's affinity for Mr Obama was based on the candidate's promise of a break with the Clintonian politics of the past. But Mr Sullivan seems all too willing to sacrifice that principle on the altar of victory. He's happy to have Mrs Clinton engage in "the dirty pugilism of the campaign", as long as it benefits Mr Obama.

Mr Sullivan argues that picking Mrs Clinton doesn't necessarily mean Mr Obama is "capitulating to old politics". Rather, it could demonstrate "his capacity to reach out and engage and co-opt his rivals and opponents." Perhaps, but it could also demonstrate his willingness to do almost anything to win. Then the question must be asked, who has co-opted who?

Over to you, Andrew.

Sullivan has reached the point of utterly circular reasoning with Obama. Because we know that Obama is a post-racial healer and a new politician (based on, I suppose) a few pretty speeches, we can dismiss the mountain of evidence to the contrary because we know that he is a post-racial healer and a new politician.

"I believe we must adjourn this meeting to some other place." - The last recorded words of Adam Smith.

The folks that criticize the Bush administration as being a front for the "real leader" Cheney would have REAL ammo on this one.

The Obama administration just a front for the Clinton Machine.

Fortunately, I don't think Hillary can bring herself to be the power behind the throne again. She wants the throne for herself.

The netroots won't accept anybody on the ticket who ever voted for the Iraq War.

Whoever Obama chooses as his running mate will be just as antiwar as he is.

A better choice might be Senator Jim Webb. He too opposed the Iraq War from the beginning, even though he has national security experience in other areas.

I remember when everyone was predicting that the rightroots would bail/sit out/vote third party if McCain were to get the nomination. The netroots may pout if Obama picks a hawk (not that I think he will), but they aren't going to go Nader or some such.

Single Issue Valueless Voter.

As long as a candidate will sign off on gay marriage he's viewed by AtGP as a healer.

Thanks to somebody here for the AtGP appelation, sorry I can't remember who I've stolen it from.
