McClintock for Congress?

A new challenger approaches!

According to the former Dean for America, Democrat Charlie Brown's 2006 challenge in California CD 4 was responsible for "launching an unprecedented grassroots movement that has forever changed the electoral dynamics of the 4th Congressional District." Well, heh heh, even if that were true, it appears that movement is going to come right back.

A poll last week showed State Senator Tom McClintock, arguably the most respected conservative in California, ahead in the primary of announced candidates, taking 44% to former Rep. Doug Ose's 11%, and CRA-endorsed Rico Oller's 6%. As a result of this poll, McClintock is now considering getting into the race (Link via governing.com).

According to the Sacramento Bee, Red State-endorsed Eric Egland is ready to withdraw and endorse McClintock should the former candidate for Governor and Lt. Governor run. "He is a proven conservative. I've supported him in the past and I would love to support him again." Egland said.

In a time when conservatives are losing leaders like John Shadegg, now is a great time for a man like Tom McClintock to run for Congress.

If they had any brains out there in CA at all he'd be the governor right now.

He'd be a great addition to the U.S. House.

I like the fact that his web page is not a celebration of pork.

Unfortunately i'm appear to be in the minority. But yes you are right. McClintock is a good man with a lot of great ideas. he has my vote..

He should win, and probably would be one of the best we have in the House.

I'd much rather Eric England myself.

McClintock's entire career can be summed up with a paraphrase from "The Big Lebowski," "You're not wrong, Tom, you're just an a$$#0!e."

The fact that he's moving from one district to another to pursue a seat that we'll already keep and already have several good contenders for just goes to prove the point. He's got all the right ideas, and all of the wrong ways of getting to them and all the wrong priorities. It's ultimately all about Tom.

I'm also from California. I must begrudgingly agree with you. Instead of moving around, I'd prefer Tom go bigger... as in challenge Boxer or Feinstein--ah, sweet dreams.

Yah, because the first 4 times he's lost statewide don't count.

Clearly, he's a great statewide candidate.

It's not a stretch. If anything, his home address games are what's keeping him in the Senate now, heh.

But look, Charlie Brown is chomping at the bit to run against John Doolittle by proxy, and push down Republican turnout. One guy he cannot do that against is Tom McClintock (another is Eric Egland).

Don't get me wrong, if he ends up running and winning the nomination, then I hope he wins, and I hope he does a good job in Congress. He's got good ideas and I know he's smart, he might be a good Congressman. I just personally can't stand him because I think he's a lot more interested in his own sense of superiority then actually moving the ball forward, and I think his supporters are completely and totally blind to his obvious flaws.
