My polling theory: back to square one

Justin Hart sent me an email last night with quotes from an assortment of people definitely not tied to the Romney camp. I have to say it does seem clear now in my mind that this was pushing in this poll. But was it actually a "push poll"?

So, now, could the culprit be not a candidate, but a third party interest group? We haven't talked much about that angle. Isn't that just as plausible as another candidate? A twenty minute poll like this is not something easily affordable by a candidate running for President.

BTW, Justin was also kind enough to talk to Ms. Kramer. She's a seventy year old lady in Iowa, which fits in the key "no axe to grind" demographic. Apparently, having gotten the calls, the Romney campaign asked if she wanted to talk to a reporter. So, again, it does also seem clear that the media, not the campaign, left out that detail.

Until you know for certain who is responsible, just give this stupid thing a rest. Let's leave the conspiracy theories to the Paultards.

It looks like the Romney campaign did have a "faux pas" moment. I don't its that big of a deal. But let's call it for what it is:

Had the media done its homework, this would not have been an issue.

Kevin Madden's response:

I guess our opponents are never absent a newly invented angle with which they will seek to satisfy their appetite for conspiracy.

There were a number of folks who notified the campaign about these calls when they first occurred who are affiliated with the campaign as grassroots organizers. It’s obviously a statistical probability that supporters of the governor would receive these calls.

When media inquiries came in asking to talk to folks who received the calls, and whether they were available the describe them, we did provide the names of supporters who were willing to talk to reporters.

Obviously, it would be hard for us to identify people who received calls who are not supporters, since they are unlikely to notify us.

Also, we’ve also made sure to identify other individuals who are not affiliated with the campaign in any way for additional media inquiries.

talkin' about the detail that Mrs. Kramer is a PAID member of the Romney campaign? No, I think it was definitely the campaign that left out that little bit of info.

This is the equivalent of a "touch foul" in basketball.

She's 70 years old . . . and there were lots of people talking to lots of media outlets. A mere oversight IMO. Any evidence that there was a purposful effort to hide her status in the campaign? (NO is the answer)

The original story broke through Politico's Jonathan Martin and his source was a guy trying to decide between Huckabee and McCain.

Another non-Romney campaign source:

And another:

And the story now is about these two grannies not making the appropriate disclosure? PUUUULEEEZZZZ!

The knee jerk reaction of the Directors that this was from the Romney Camp . . . and then (once there was evidence that it wasn't their prime suspect) they shifted their suspicion to others in the Romney camp or from other GOP campaigns GOP was a sad developement.

I've suspected the Lefty 527 all along . . . glad that at least Erick is starting to see this as a valid possiblity.

Trying to cause trouble for Republicans? Set us against each other?

Does anyone else think it's bad form to be accusing Romneyites of this on such limited evidence? I mean- usually "false flag" actions require some solid proof.

Note: I also think accusations against McCain or Rudy are premature as well.

Lets just wait until more evidence is available before attacking other Republicans- one of whom is very likely to be our nominee.
