It lacked only this, to cement the blood feud:

Ferraro Quits Clinton Post
By Katharine Q. Seelye

Geraldine Ferraro has left Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton’s finance committee, saying that Senator Barack Obama’s campaign was twisting her words to make her appear racist and that this was hurting Mrs. Clinton, a campaign official confirmed after CNN reported the development.

Mrs. Ferraro had told a newspaper that “If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position.”

I've been meaning to mention this, by the way: if every criticism of Senator Barack Obama is going to be responded to in racialist terms by his campaign, then the term best used to describe him and his wouldn't be Hope and Change.

Try Business As Usual, instead.

With the news the Democrats are making, McCain doesn't have to worry about being in it.

She said on FOX the other night that she thought she might have to step down, but she said she'd still raise money for Hillary.

This is really absurd. I don't even really agree with her, I think Obama's race has something to do with it, but it's a small thing, but what she said was hardly racist.

construed as racist by the opposition will not stand... I'm sure she is trying to stand her ground but in the field of politics, she does not have that necessary leg to stand on (white wooden leg to boot)... Such is the cruel and stupid goal of racism mongering...

The Red Sox Republican: Burkeanism, Baseball, and Sundries.

It's stunning to me that the Obama camp would call Ferraro a racist. That's the single worst thing you can call somebody in America, doubly so in liberal America. It's the nuclear weapon of rhetorical devices.

The good thing is the more Obama uses the race card to destroy people, the less effective it will be. They will try to use it in the general against Repubs, of course, but using it on fellow lefties in the primary dilutes it's power.

And Ferraro isn't going to shut-up about this. The outrage in her eyes and voice were so clear. She's spent her life as a liberal partisan, and now gets publicly called a racist and thrown under the bus. It's hard to imagine a bigger insult to someone like her.

I understand that, rather than meekly apologize, she's demanding Obama apologizes to her. I don't know if the Obama people realize what kind of fight they just picked.

I think you're right. The fact that she's about to write him off over this is a very, very bad sign for him. He's going to have an AWFULLY hard time patching things up if he wins.

WHich, of course, is great for us.

"I ain't never votin' fo another Democrat so long as I can draw breath! I'll vote for a dog first!" - Leola Thomas

stupid defamation of many if she would make a viable and visable stand here... I hope she does! It's long past time for this kind of racist crucification to end...

Formally known as Deagle... "Golf is a way of life..."

Ferraro knew exactly what she was saying; she made the exact same comments regarding Jesse Jackson back in the 80s. The Clinton's decided they had to knee-cap Obama, and it started in SC with Bubba. What they didn't expect was the black backlash. Oooops! This is what the Democrats are all about, and it's out there now for all of us to watch. Let's not pity them; lets encourage them to keep it up. There's not much one can say about Obama's experience, etc., it's all been said. But this race crap was started by the Clintons and he'd be a fool to sit there and not demand equal accountabilty when surrogates go off the tracks. Keep in mind, this is like the sixth or seventh time one of her surrogates have made these kinds of suggestive comments, and they can't complain now about racial political correctness that they themselves invented.

my little Stupidometer™ is going to wear completely out.

Ferraro's problem was problems were that A) she thought everyone would know that liberals are allowed to notice race, because they're liberals and B) she didn't realize that the long knives were out.

Oh, and she didn't know when to shut up.

Here's one reason to vote for John McCain: If Obama wins the presidency, we are going to have to put up with 4-8 years of this sort of whinging, every time he's criticised for anything. Yerrk.

Obama '08: Immanentize the Eschaton!

I agree with Scotchex that calling someone a racist is about the worst thing in America that you can call someone. Furthermore, I think that it is slanderous to call someone a racist on such thin gruel as Ferraro's statement. I mean, does anyone truly believe that Geraldine Ferraro is a racist? Anyone? That's what I thought. I felt so sorry for her. Scotchex is right--you could really see the outrage and hurt in her eyes.

On a side note, Geraldine Ferraro suffers from multiple myeloma, a rare and incurable form of bone cancer. In all honesty, she probably doesn't have all that long to live. This was an opportunity for Barack Obama to actually show some class and defend Ferraro. Instead, he attacks an older woman with cancer by calling her a racist. This guy is such a bottom-feeding little weasel. The good news, though, is that I think that Americans are finally starting to see though his constant use of the race card.

That further explains her expectation of getting a pass.

thing that is thrown out. Mercy, Ferraro states the obvious (and totally condemned), 90% blacks voting for their race, and 80% white women voting for Hillary... well, I guess this means that we can never discuss racial issues in this country.

That is really a shame! I anything would do good for this country, it is to allow an open discussion of race and women in politics. Anything hinting of either racial or womens status seems to set everyone off. Things change, not always for the best.

Now why can't we always just discuss the politics and policies of the person running...maybe next election...ha.

Well, it at least is working for the Republican party.

Is all talking about race racist?

Can something be racist when race is not mentioned or even intimated?

While the Clinton machine has infused race into this, I personally don't think the "3am" ad had any racial overtones - yet, I have heard where it was called racist. Can Obama win if every criticism is labeled racist, even when the criticism clearly has no racial overtones?

Sorry to say that at this time the answer is always YES. It may be many years before we can discuss politics without worrying about race or gender. Too bad... Of course, this seems to extend into many other areas of our existence also...

Formally known as Deagle... "Golf is a way of life..."

but any chance he had of securing the vote in November of southern, white democrats has probably gone up in smoke.

Given that, is there any southern state within his grasp? I think not.

If you notice by my user name I am in that small minority of Democrats that has turned away from the far-left extremists that have hijacked the party of FDR. Obama using the fear of being called racist to win an election is shameful. I do know that when November rolls around and if he is the nominee all of those white Democratic voters they called racist in Ohio during the primary are going to remember that.

The most brilliant thing the Republicans could have ever done is to nominate McCain. He is the only one of the Republican candidates that is respected and liked by the Reagan Democrats. He'll destroy Obama in the GE with the support of Hillary's base.

McCain wasn't my first pick, but I agree with your sentiments. I think those Reagan Democrats are coming back with McCain as the nominee. Especially if Obama insists on calling people racist every chance he gets.

I have echoed the very same sentiments on this website that you now express. If Obama is the nominee, then millions of Reagan Democrats (like myself) will vote for John McCain--he is more than acceptable to us.

Rather, it is...

I have my answer. Let's see if we agree.

I hope not, but I fear it will. Practically speaking to defeat Obama, we have to raise his negatives. But most of the negatives in his past have a racial angle, if nothing else because the people (Obama himself, his wife, his pastor, etc, etc) are black -- so Obama can just accuse anyone who brings up his pastor of being racist. In a sane world, the Farrakhan linkage alone would have already disqualified Obama. (To quote They Might Be Giants: You can't shake hands with the devil and say you're only kidding.)

So far this has worked. Hillary has been very reluctant to attack his weak points, and the media carries his water in playing the race card. In most of the media interviews I saw with Ferraro, the journalists attacked her and labeled her comments as somehow beyond the pale. They didn't ask her what she meant, they asked her if she wanted to apologize. She admirably stood firm and gave her explanation and context anyways.

So as much as I enjoy seeing the Dems employ the circular firing squad with dueling race and gender cards ... I don't see any evidence yet that the race and gender cards aren't working. I mainly see evidence that the race card beats the gender card. I hope America gets fed up with it, but I'm worried we won't -- especially since it's verboten to even suggest that the race card is being played in the first place!

It's downright Orwellian, in that clear language isn't allowed and basic, accurate observations are shouted down in a storm of accusatory rhetoric. It's very frustrating.

... without resorting to the standard marginalizing racist rhetoric.

Obama actually defended Biden in a situation where Biden poorly worded his praise in words that were racially charged but not intentionally so.

Ferraro on the other hand is intentionally marginalizing Obama by painting him as just a BLACK candidate a la Jesse Jackson.

You can attack Obama's record, his policies and his agenda without resorting to racist tactics like Ferraro did.

However, my sense is that most of the posters here have a huge blind spot on this issue. To them Obama is incapable of being anything other than a Black man. If that's not racist, then I am an astronaut.

...should behave themselves by not attempting to defecate all over the Republican sites that they visit. Particularly when spouting utter nonsense.

You will now apologize to the site for your intemperate comments. Next post, or last post: your call.

FYI BFoster, you're not going to be able to shame voters into voting for your unqualified, neophyte candidate by calling them "racists". Just in case you're wondering, that is an absolutely moronic strategy.

usually irrelevant:

1 - classic definition: One who "believes" blacks, in general, are inferior to whites in intellectual ability.

Guess what, if we average out the IQs of all whites and compare to all whites, the scores will not be equal.

So what really matters is how one acts as to individuals.

Therefore, the classic definition tells us nothing.

2 - hatred of other races

again, what really matters is how one acts

3 - we can't read people's hearts

what matters is how one acts

4 - dems' affirmative action, at its core is to judge people by race and gender, not character and ability, and to assume inferiority based on race

this is the racism that Ferraro is invested in, and which caused me to leave the dem party

the intellectual point further

if one were to average the IQs of all whites in SC with all whites in NC, they would not be equal either

and would be just as useless

"One man with courage makes a majority." - Andrew Jackson

The difference in average IQ between Blacks and Whites is 15 points, worldwide. Asians average about 7 points better than Whites, and German Jews average about 15 points smarter than everyone else.

The differnce between the top 1% and the bottom 1% is about 90 points, for all groups. The difference within the groups dwarfs the difference between the groups. In fact, the difference inside that 1% at either end is many times greater than the difference between the averages.

What that all means is that in any group of (say) 100 people or more, the smartest Black person will be way smarter than the dumbest White or Asian person. In groups of, say, 10 or less, there won't be much difference at all. And for any two individuals, you can't use group identity to judge between them.

Furthermore, diligence and virtue are more important to the success of an individual than intelligence, and without having any hard knowledge about it, I would guess that they are even more widely distributed and less dependent of skin color.
