Obama may go to Iraq after all. But not because McCain shamed him into it.

One wonders whether a staffer will need to be sacrificed in order to power this particular reversal.

I'm sorry, but there really does seem to be some sort of strange aura of bizarre political propitiation of the Almighty Polls going on here. Dip below a certain percentage level, reverse course, come up with some sort of spin, and maybe drain the life force out of a random adviser. Via Hot Air:

Obama Says He Is Considering Iraq Trip
By Jeff Zeleny

THORNTON, Colo. – Senator Barack Obama said today that he is considering visiting American troops and commanders in Iraq this summer. He declined an invitation from Senator John McCain to take a joint trip to Iraq, saying: “I just don’t want to be involved in a political stunt.”

In a brief interview here, Mr. Obama said his campaign was considering taking a foreign trip after he secures the Democratic presidential nomination. No details have been set, he said, but added: “Iraq would obviously be at the top of the list of stops.”

Rather obvious weasel to that, not to mention a huge caveat, but remember: McCain ain't the boss of him!

No, not at all.

the general but he will make it through the primary because the MSM neglected to put the spotlight on him and show him for the hollow marxist he is.....McCain will be the next President.

Sorry, but there's no two ways about this.

"History will be kind to me, for I intend to write it"-Winston Churchill

The Establishment Democrats guessed wrong in 2005-2006: they were sure that they had a winning issue in Iraq, so they decided to force-grow Senator Obama into a Veep slot. Only the progressives had different ideas, and the Clinton campaign was caught napping - so now they're stuck with a front-runner who's trying to maneuver as best he can on a fundamental position that gets a little more eroded by objective reality every day. His unforced errors aren't helping him, either.

AND THIS IS WHY WE HAVE TO LET JINDAL STAY IN LOUISIANA FOR TWO TERMS. What the Democrats should have done was to throw Blagojevich to the wolves, sent Obama to the Governor's seat, and kept him there until '16. Lucky for us that they went too fast.

Easier to blame it all on one scapegoat. And God help any Illinois politician if Rezko gets convicted. The DA will look over at Rezko and tell him that there's a Magic Word that will make all that jail time just go away, and that word is "Blagojevich."

And then the fun starts.

I love the look of contempt as McCain is folding up the paper with Obama's statement on it. And the line about how we will show him the facts on the ground.

I don't love John McCain, and he wasn't my first choice, but...nothing in Obama's lifetime has prepared him for going toe-to-toe with a guy like McCain. And his experience facing up against Hillary is cold comfort, since he's basically been running out the clock against her.

I hope that McCain takes this kind of an attitude into face to face debates with Obama in the fall...it will really separate the men from the boys...

who would YOU like to have facing down Ahmadinijad and Putin from the Oval Office. This guy...or that guy???

"If we want to take this party back, and I think we can someday, let’s get to work." – Barry Goldwater

the Dems would give the Hopemessiah a crash course in foreign policy. Given the political climate all he has to do is look like a guy that would not be asleep at the wheel. The electorate seems ready to eat up all their economic populism if they could get a guy who isnt a complete dove on World affairs. Luckily for us, the Koskids run that party because a guy like Lieberman would have crushed us this year.

Aren't you glad the Dems nominated Kerry instead of Zell Miller in 2004?

Zell Miller looked and talked like a POTUS out of Central Casting. He would have clobbered Bush in the debates.

What are you even talking about? Zell Miller was disowned by the Democrat party in 2004. "F*** Zell" was written all over the D areas of his home state (trust me, I saw it dozens of times), he was called a "traitor," and he spoke at the *Republican* convention.

Where are you even pulling that idea from in the first place?

Very few Democrats enjoy having *those* type of people in the room.

At a rate of 6,000 earmarks per spending bill, Speaker Pelosi is selling America's future to the special intrest groups.

Looks like Obama's staff quickly realized the rhetorical trap McCain had put Obama in, and yanked Obama back from the precipice just in time before he compounded yet another gaffe.

Just one more day in the life of the Not Ready for Prime Time Democratic Players.

What, man, is the real reason for Obamas decision to see Afghanistan ?

I guess he is planning some good holidays, steping around in a
extremely beautiful countryside.

Will he think of the brave american soldiers serving within the borders of Afghanistan for the ideals of freedem and truth, which mean the real treasure of the Great American Nation ?

I am just asking, i do´t know.

should be interesting. He's way more contemptuous of and contemptible to our troops than either Hillary or Pelosi or [name your favorite military-hating Dem here], and those receptions seemed pretty frosty. It will also most likely be a Gaffapalooza. Bring it on!

This guy is SUCH an idiot. McCain ate him for lunch.

You may not be interested in war, but war is interested in you.

HObama - consulting the polls & "working" for your vote.

Does that mean he intends to suspend his campaign? I haven't seen anything out of it yet that wasn't a political stunt.

He nailed Senator Obama to the wall.

I can't wait for the debates. [That is if Obama agrees to them...I'm not holding my breath.]
