Barack Obama has thrown Rev. Michael Pfleger under the bus. Pfleger took Hillary to task, claiming she felt she should win over a black man.
CBS News notes that Pfleger is "another pastor friend."
But he's much more than that. Pfleger and Obama have had a long relationship. Pfleger backed Obama against Bobby Rush when Obama ran in 2000 for Congress.
Already by that time, Pfleger was on record supporting radicals like Louis Farrakhan.
Pfleger is a campaign contributor to Obama, in addition to being yet another "spiritual mentor," and Obama got a $225,000.00 earmark for Pfleger's church when Obama was in the state legislature in Illinois.
Obama's strategist, lobbyist David Axelrod, told the New York Times
that Father Pfleger was “remaking the face” of Chicago’s South Side and that all of Mr. Obama’s earmarks went to worthy programs like his.
Great, so not only is Obama associating with far left hate filled preachers, he's getting them tax dollars too.
[UPDATE:] Our friends at the Catholic League have gone on offense over this issue.

Truth be known, Pfleger has a very troubling history: he has welcomed the anti-Semite Louis Farrakhan to preach in his church; he has hired prostitutes to worship there; he has been arrested for defacing billboards; and he once urged the crowd at an anti-gun rally to hunt down a gun store owner ‘like a rat’ and ‘snuff’ him.“Senator Obama says he wants to bring people together. Then why does he choose as his clerical friends people like Rev. Jeremiah Wright and Father Pfleger? They are two peas in a pod, both equally divisive, separated only by the color of their skin.”

He said "snuff him out." That's even worse.
If someone said to me "I'm going to snuff you out," I would consider that a death threat.
Was it that direct? Crazy.
But then, anti-gun nuts have never had an issue with violence. They only have an issue with an armed populace that could defend itself.

His remarks about Hillary got widely reported. Less so were his other remarks, where he claimed that any white person who inherits any money from a white ancestor, or even has a 401(k) plan (!!!), is ipso facto guilty of "white supremacy."

I am Catholic and I live in Chicago- Pfleger is well known as being out there in his own little world where all he wants to do is be an activist in the black community, and he more or less told the Cardinal to F-off a few years back when they tried to reassign him out of St. Sabinas, as is common practice to periodically rotate all priests.
But the local media has been pretty gentle with Pfleger, they always show him leading marches agains Cigarette billboards or gun violence- his one stumble was as noted above with the "snuff" comment, which even that he pretty much skated on.
But if this clip is really representative of his preaching, he's not just a guy who likes working with the African American community, he really is a hateful individual.
Do does Obama now say "he doesn't know Pfleger as well as he thought he did." And does Obama have any friends, spiratual advisors, or family members who don't hate American and/or white people?

Given that nearly all of Obama's closest friends are Leftists, the question I think you're really asking is:
Can there still be Leftists who don't hate America and who don't hate white people? (I mean hard-core Leftists, not mainstream liberals)
Sadly, I think the answer to that is now, No. The reason is largely demographic. In your grandfather's time, socialism was built on the blue-collar working class. Socialism therefore had to appeal to the masses. And it often did.
But today's radical Leftists don't come from the assembly-line and the factory. Those workers are now part of America's thriving middle class. Instead, the radical Leftists now come out of the very top (liberal-arts college students, professors, Hollywood) and the very bottom (welfare recipients, blacks in the ghetto, illegal aliens from Latin America).
These cohorts are chronically alienated from the mainstream of American society. Unlike the socialists of the 1940s, they have nothing in common with average Americans who work a 9 to 5 job. And they don't like them much either.
The blue-collar workers I see in my neighborhood, drive pickup trucks with American flag stickers, "Union YES!" bumper stickers, "Proud to be Union" bumper stickers, "Machinist's Union" bumper stickers, and "Support the Troops" bumper stickers. Reverend Wright does NOT speak for them.

Obama backed a guy that the Illinois Democratic Party felt was too corrupt? Good Lord, I didn't think it was even possible to be too corrupt for the Illinois Democratic Machine.
I only wish Pfleger could be excommunicated so easily. I am too mortified by the video and background information to care about Obama's connection.
Imagine the uproar.

Although the Catholic Church improved its response to the sexual abuse scandal, the perception would be exactly as you describe it.
The Left never cares about Truth, only about Spin.

Since I put Obama into this category, it will come as no surprise when he melts down in rather short order. Incidentally, and this isn't the normal political hyperbole, I am actually appalled by what Pfleger said, and it takes quite a bit to have that effect.
be associated with the Catholic Church? What in the hell is wrong with the local Catholic leadership that they would allow his association to continue? Local catholics need to step up and drum this evil man from their ranks. If it were my parish, I would be out front with a very large sign shaming him, and in back orchestrating his rapid removal.
