Obama wants to claim he's distancing Democrats from lobbyists, without actually doing so

Barack Obama has sent the Democratic Party reeling today in his first official act as nominee. He's taken over the party and banned money from lobbyists.

Will he ban Lottie Shackelford from the building? She is the DNC's Vice-Chair and she is a registered lobbyist. Will Obama actually live up to the expectation he set — dare I say the "spirit" of his intentions — or was his statement banning lobbyist money "just words"?

What about Linda Chavez-Thompson, the other DNC Vice-Chair? She has been a lobbyist for the AFL-CIO.

And will Obama take down links to the DCCC and DSCC from the DNC website? Thus far, the DCCC refuses to adhere to the nominee's wishes. The DCCC is glad to accept lobbyist dollars. The DSCC is thus far offering no comment.

It's a poor sign that the nominee can't get the party to listen to him. It's even a worse sign that his statement appears to be "just words."

when Soros funds your whole party.

Jindal in 2012!

That man can't even throw a party.

Literally.

The Fuzzy Puppy of the VRWC. I've been usurped!

This is why a part of me is secretly rooting for an Obama presidency. If it weren't for the expiring tax cuts and Justices, and the war, I totally would. Part of why we're losing ground among the young is that in their lifetime we've had a crappy Republican President and a competent Democrat who governed post-1994 somewhere to the right of Ike.

But this guy has absolutely no clue what he is getting into in Washington DC. He is going to get eaten alive by people in his party who loathe him for not paying his dues. It will be an absolute disaster. And 2010 will be a joyous occasion because of it.

Does this include UNION lobbyists?

America wonders...

When Obama had challenged Hillary on her accepting of lobbyist money, she bravely replied, "Well, lobbyists are people too." Her weaselly attempt at an explanation helps explain why she's not the Dem nominee:

I'll bet this is Obama's response to McCain's challenge to show how and where Obama can break with his own party, the way McCain said he has broken with his party, when the country's interests seemed to demand it.

The difference, of course, is that it's easy for Obama to toss this talking-point in the middle of a campaign when he knows in advance the party won't go along with it. McCain has actually worked in the Senate to pass real legislation. What bills has Senator Obama co-sponsored?
