One Last Mission for General Pace
Virginia Needs General Peter Pace

The political prospects for the 2008 Senate race in the Commonwealth of Virginia are dim.
With wealthy former Gov. Mark Warner holding significant leads over Rep. Tom Davis and former Gov. Jim Gilmore - two unimpressive candidates with little grassroots support - the likelihood of two Democrat Senators is high.
We are facing a critical moment in our nation's history. Such moments call for unique leadership - leadership which challenges the positions of the drive-by media, the Beltway insiders, and the political status quo. And the time has come for a leader who knows the truth firsthand about the challenge we face confronting forces of terror in Iraq and around the world, and will not play games with our men and women in uniform for political profit.
The Editors of National Review recently wrote an editorial urging General Peter Pace, the outgoing Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff - the highest military office in the nation) to enter the Senate race in Virginia.
Many Virginians agree, and with the recent selection of a convention over a primary, there is a realistic opening for a Pace candidacy.
Today, we urge General Pace to accept One Last Mission on behalf of his country. We urge him to heed the calls of his fellow countrymen and, rather than slipping away into a quiet (and much deserved) retirement, to serve once more a proud and grateful nation that desperately needs the unique leadership only he can offer.
Thanks to our friends at BigRedTent, you can now demonstrate your support for a Pace candidacy for the United States Senate by doing more than joining a Facebook group or commenting on a blog: you can donate to the effort. If Pace chooses to run, the money raised will go to that effort - if not, approved donations will go to a military charity.
We recognize that General Pace must be reluctant to enter this fray. But as One Last Mission puts it:
General, the American people need your leadership in the U.S. Senate. The outcome of even one Senate race could mean the difference between pushing on towards victory and being driven from the field and rendering meaningless the blood that has been spilt in the sands of Iraq and Afghanistan. We cannot afford to be represented by a September 10th politician. We cannot spare you now.

As northern VA continues to expand and it's middle to left ideologies with it I am not sure how "red" that state will continue to be.

Ben's posting of John Fund's comment on Tom Davis possibly holding his seat instead of running for the Senate is GREAT NEWS!
Gives us the chance to win the Senate with a conservative and hold a competitive house seat with a moderate.
This could be great all around.
Also, in re: Virginia, the Club for Growth might like to help Sharon Angle, who narrowly lost to Dean Heller, run against Harry Reid. She'd be a rock solid conservative woman in the senate.
Harry Reid isn't up till 2010 and John Porter will run for that seat and should win it.
Conservatives should support Porter. He'd have the best shot at beating Reid, and while I understand he's got a somewhat mixed record, that has more to do with him being from a very, very difficult district that's split right down the middle. He's a close ally of Sen. Ensign, who's a solid conservative, and I expect he'd be close to as conservative as Ensign if he were to be elected.
Anyhow, I agree that Tom Davis should stay where he is, and that Pace would be the best we could realistically hope for.
Mark Warner is a popular politician. You don't beat a popular politician with a somewhat less popular politician. You'll lose every time that way. You beat a popular politician with a non-politician. (See: Jim Webb, unfortunately, although I admit that was a very weird circumstance.) Pace may not win, but he's got the best chance of winning.

Jon Porter and Tom Davis can keep their seats as far as I'm concerned. I want real conservatives for the Senate - especially in conservative states like Nevada - not stealth conservatives.
Voters who like squishy Republicans like Porter tend to vote for Democrats like Harry Reid when given a chance. I suspect the key to winning in Nevada is giving conservative voters who were conned by Reid into believing that he is pro-life to realize that he's just a liberal tool. Need to give them a real conservative alternative.
2 Democrat Senate Majority Leaders Up, 2 Down. :-)
I'd probably support former Secretary of State Dean Heller over Porter. He has proven more conservative than it was thought he would be, and then Sharon Angle can come back and win the open house seat.
I'd probably even support Nevada Governor Jim Gibbons over Porter, too.
That's retarded. John Porter's last opponent was a former Press Secretary for Reid. His lifetime ACU is 83, which is relatively high for a R in a swing district. Gibbons, who was in the safest district in the state, only had a 91. In comparison, Tom Davis's is only 56.

Let's nominate the Nash Equilibrium for President.
...General Pace has an interest in running for the senate, or that he has any interest in politics at all? Is he even a conservative?
I'm not trying to be combatative, I just have never heard anything to that regard.

Here are some questions, people:
1) Does anyone know if Pace is even slightly interested in running?
2) Does anyone know if Pace is conservative on issues other than gay marriage?
3) Does anyone know if Pace actually knows anything about any other issues that might come up in a Senate race?
4) Does anyone know if Pace can raise any money?
5) Does anyone know if Pace is comfortable under the liberal media microscope?
I'm working on the "grammar don'ts" page for my show-n-tell at school. You, my friend, can go tap tap tap on another stall as your wide stance attention to me is borderline stalking.
But, fella, I think it's a moderator that will be stalking you soon.
I wouldn't get too comfortable.

Who cares?
Tom Davis will lose, and will give a House seat to an R if he runs.
Jim Gilmore will not only lose, and lose so badly he could bring down others with him.
Pace would, at worst, be no worse then our other options, and he might be a lot better. His military credentials at least would make it an interesting race.

Excuse me, I mean Tom Davis will give the seat to a D if he runs for Senate.
