Our Word For The Day

It is "internecine":

When Democrats contemplate the apocalypse these days, they have visions of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton slugging it out à la Ted Kennedy and Jimmy Carter at the 1980 convention. The campaign's current trajectory is, in fact, alarmingly similar to the one that produced that disastrous affair. Back then, Carter had built up a delegate lead with early wins in Iowa, New Hampshire, and several Southern states. But, as the primary season dragged on, Kennedy began pocketing big states and gaining momentum. Once all the voting ended and Kennedy came up short, he eyed the New York convention as a kind of Hail Mary.

That's just the teaser. The article is long, but well worth reading. If you are a Republican, you will take more than a little pleasure in reading it. And in reading this. Back in 1992, when George Bush the Elder and Ross Perot were killing each other, Bill Clinton used what was called "The Manhattan Project" (in light of the Democrats' decision to hold their convention in New York City that year) to rehabilitate an image that had taken a battering during the course of the primaries. John McCain, it would appear, is ready to undertake the same kind project himself. And Democrats are giving him the time to do it.

There. Now that I've made an incorrect literary reference, our lurkers can safely dismiss your post, too. If only we had learned this trick years ago... ;)

The Fuzzy Puppy of the VRWC. I've been usurped!

Sounds like Operation Chaos is working like a charm.

On a side note I do agree, there were some gems in there about Neanderthals and lunatics alike. And I especially liked the comment "and his [McCain] ties to K Street have largely been hidden from view, while the Democrats' dirty laundry has been aired for swing voters"

I ask Mr. Scheiber exactly who's at fault for this event? The primaries are designed to thin the herd and as he pointed out ad hominem attacks are bound to result eventually so what is the media going to cover, the attacks or McCains silence?

I believe Rush is doing a real disservice to conservatives. We pride ourselves on our integrity. That we are above the dishonesty that is pervasive in the Democrat party. I could not vote for Hilary simply to gum up the works for the Dems. While I agree with Rush most of time, Rush is wrong on this one. We are a better party than what he is promoting with Operation Chaos.

i am replying to the comment that operation chaos goes against conservative principles. how do you think we got that joke of a nominee john mcain, dems voted in our open primaries and with the conservative vote split we end up with mcain and look how he is acting , he still thinks he can win without the conservatives, and i for 1 dont trust him. look at the last 10 years and how he has acted the rep party needs all the help it can since i dont see any enthusiam for mcain out here in south carolina. mcain is barely a rep and most assured not a reagan conservative.

there is nothing illegal or immoral about "Operation Chaos." It is simply gaming the system to make the other side's life a lot more interesting.

By your logic, focusing your electoral efforts on winning electoral votes rather than winning the popular vote would be improper.

All games have rules and only a moron refuses to use them to his advantage.

The Dems, who have no scruples, gave us McCain. We have more integrity and principles than the Dems. Operation Chaos is stooping to their level.

If we are to hold onto our conservative values we must live by them. That is why I have criticized Operation Chaos, why I have urged Senators Vitter and Craig to resign, and openly opposed nation building in Iraq. We are a movement based on honesty, integrity, and morality. Operation Chaos, the Craigs and Vitters of the world, and expansion of government, even overseas in Iraq, degrade what we stand for and fly in the face of those core values.

politics ain't bean bag, and it makes no sense to try to lift your standards so high that your opponent has all the advantages.

The reason it is wrong is because it propped up Hillary when we had the opportunity to finally squash that horrible person.

in both Party's Primary systems. When the Republican Nom is picked before I get a chance to vote, there is a problem.

We need to change the way it is done so that all votes can be counted and all potential Candidates get a chance to be voted for. One single Primary vote would make better sense.

For now, there is nothing illegal about Operation Chaos. I personally did not participate but do not see a problem with it in principle.

No, it wouldn't. If there was one single vote, you (probably) and I (definitely) would be working the coal mines with the rest of the ice people on the chain gang as The Great Hope from Illinois turned over his podium to the Most Revered Reverend Wright to excoriate us for our sins against the Righteous Beloved of God Blacks who had been cruelly tortured by the ice people before we were delivered into his hands by God to face His righteous Wrath.

A lengthy primary season gives the truth, or at least some facts, a chance to come out. The trick is to get the right length. Too long and people lose interest as well as attacks becoming personal and nasty. Too short and flim-flam artists can always fool enough people to win the election.

If this comment holds "We have more integrity and principles than the Dems. Operation Chaos is stooping to their level."

Then we should never run a negative ad, never engage in any form of political debate because our principals may make the other side look bad. Standing by without fighting to win is foolish and misguided.

And if 1 man with a microphone is able to create internecine among the dems then booyah to Rush and all the votrs that get to participate. Puruse the lefty blogs calling for criminal action against Rush and the voters, there you will see the full impact of what Operation Chaos is all about; extending the pain for the dem primary. But more over why would simple electoral tricks be "stooping to their level"?

I am disgusted by our party's insistence that we lose with dignity. We need to win more then ever this cycle if for 1 reason only, SCOTUS appointments.

we get more XP!

Besides, how are we going to use the ring of vampiric regeneration to keep the party healthy if we don't feed the troll?
