Republicans Finally Settle on a Date for YouTube Debate

Now it's time to submit your questions

There's good news coming out of the Republican Party of Florida this morning. The Republican presidential candidates (with the exception of Mitt Romney) have settled on Nov. 28 for their version of the CNN/YouTube debate. After much controversy and delay, this event is now set to take place at the Mahaffey Theatre in St. Petersburg, Fla.

A press release from CNN confirms that candidates will stick to the same format that Democrats used during their debate earlier this month:

Like the Democratic CNN/YouTube debate, this live two-hour forum will feature video questions submitted to YouTube that will be broadcast and answered by the candidates on CNN. CNN’s Anderson Cooper will moderate.

The challenge now is to get conservatives -- and not just tech-savvy youngsters -- to submit questions for the debate. Simply go to YouTube's debate page to get started. If you can get your parents or grandparents on camera, please lend a helping hand.

....and everyone else does. I predict he will commit eventually.

Now I hope the candidates will be prepared to expose and embarrass CNN in their choice of attack questions. We'll see which of the candidates can smack down the idiot questions and which candidates will let the biased questions run them over.

Let's see now, the Republicans are supposed to have a "debate", and I use that term lightly, but the Democrats declined the invitation to debate on Fox? Sounds like the Fairness Doctrine rewarmed. Sort of like health care reform, rewarmed by the Democrat frontrunner. Now Rudy Guiliani and Fred Thompson should have the opportunity to debate. Unless of course, there are profound scheduling problems. :-) One cannot protect candidates, nor should we, from citizens asking really dumb questions. We also cannot help CNN selecting those dumb or embarrassing questions, selectively, either. However, well-prepared candidates can show CNN how stupid they were for selecting those questions and CNN might wish they had not. Short answer, timed questions are not too good a format, but that is the one drawn. More like giving a response sound bite from a prepared script, while smiling when giving the answer, or using faux humor. That is especially important if you are the leading Democrat candidate. A strident answer or combative one belies your sweet disposition. I hope they are asked about the Fair Tax, what they believe and will do with respect to the 2nd and 14th amendments, how they will fight terrorism effectively, how they will handle social security and medicare questions, what they will actually do about illegal immigration, what they think is the main role(s) of the federal government and what they would like for in their high court nominees. I suspect we will see Rambo and the Snowman, but this is just about the speed of the liberal-biased TV media. 90 minutes of great programming.

Is CNN trying to get ratings?

I'm fine with the debate, with one exception. I hope there is clear language that disallows morons dressing up as a snowman or any other completely stupid outfit and asking a question. This is to find a POTUS, not some high school class president. I hope they respect the office and keep the debate entries serious.

I think we should expect some of that crap and definite bias. The opportunity lies with the candidates smacking that crap down and exposing the CNN bias. Biden did it by calling one of the questions stupid. (compliment/criticize the person on your left question.

Offer the CNN viewership some common sense reality. I think there are plenty of viewers with some open minds that have been wondering what the democrats have really produced beyond empty promises.

I know I'm not forced to pay attention to the early electioneering going on for the 08 presidential election.

And I know I'm free not to visit web blogs and websites that has mounds and mounds of commentary about campaigns and the 08 races.

I also know I'm free to tell all you political junkies, which I consider myself a part, "ALRIGHT ALREADY." I so tired of hearing about the 08 races!

IF the election was far off. Did we start too early? Yep. But as it stands, we might have the Iowa caucus as early as late December. I think it's appropriate to discuss.

Participating in a network-sponsored YouTube debate is a mistake. I favor bringing campaigns and elections to the people, and I favor using the Internet to facilitate it.

The YouTube debates resemble the dunking booth in the midway at a carnival. Sure, we want our candidates to come some place where we can connect with them, and the Internet represents the modern day County Fair and carnival.

But the YouTube debates simply allow the network to put the candidates in a weak position where they can be dunked by the best throw from the carnival goers. Is this want we want from our presidential candidates? What incentive would a sitting president have to participate in this in four years?

Let's not get caught up in the exhibitionism of 'revolutionary' tools of the Internet. Online video is certainly compelling, but frankly the CNN YouTube debates can be facilitated without YouTube. And if that were the case, would we be fascinated and encouraging our Republican candidates to participate?

If networks want to bring candidates to the people, we should encourage them to do in a way that doesn't demean the process and our eventual president.

I'm suprised that Qube Tv wasn't chosen over youtube, for a conservative debate. granted it's small potatoes compared to youtube, but it would probably be a shot in the arm for the website and might help it to become more well known.

Makes me sick! Republicans just flop over and cave in. No Republican should appear on CNN until the Demofascists stop their disinformation and harassment campaign against FOX News. Plain and simple.

Republicans should be routinely exposing the biased media. We needs someone to FIGHT against the fascists, not yield to them!

Pandering and acting like Democrats will only make sure that Republicans become a permanent minority.
