Small Things Destroy Candidates and Presidents

One of the most cumbersome things a lawyer will ever do besides taking the bar exam is filling out the bar application. The applications, for pretty much every state, are long, burdensome, invasive, and require several trips down memory lane.

In my application, I had to file a name affidavit because I have a hyphenated first name, but some legal documents have the second part of my first name as my middle name or part of a hyphenated last name.

I had a friend in law school who got a lot of parking tickets and had to get records from campus police to be able to document them all.

The Bar, you see, is concerned about a person's character and a person's propensity to run roughshod over the legal system. How one comports oneself with respect to following the law says a lot about how that person will act as a lawyer.

I'm glad I went to law school in Georgia. Places like California, Illinois, New York, and Virginia have very tough bar exams and generally very tough applications processes.

I go through all of this because of a Jim Geraghty post today.

Barack Obama received 17 parking tickets while he was at Harvard between 1988 and 1991. He paid them in 2007, back when reporters started digging into these small things.

Barack Obama was admitted to the Illinois Bar in December of 1991 and had to answer, on his bar application, "Do you have any outstanding parking violations?"

What did he say then? By 2007, he claimed to have totally forgotten about the tickets. Did he forget in 1991 or just decide it was no big deal.

Obama has a propensity not to sweat the small stuff. It is, however, the small stuff, the bacteria, that accumulates, spreads, and eventually takes down a candidate or a President.

Given Barack Obama's unwillingness to be candid, his unwillingness to disclose such things as his medical records, and his unwillingness to disassociate from people of bad character until the media or right wing bloggers demand it, we must wonder if he disclosed his tickets to the Illinois Bar.

And if he did disclose them, why didn't he pay them?

This is, admittedly, a small thing. But history is filled with small things undoing large and larger than life creatures. And the man who claims he works across aisles solely based on the Coburn-Obama government transparency legislation has thus far resisted most all transparency in his campaign, even of some rather small things.

Not paying parking tickets is a character issue and character does matter.

spots that I knew then. :>)

Just a typical, small town, British-American girl...

Impeach the 5 usurpers

No offense meant to you, but if the Bar is interested in the character of a man, why are so many lawyers scum? lol.

In seriousness though, character REALLY matters when it comes to positions of power.

Sometimes I wish we'd hold an election of people who wouldn't want to be the President. Those who don't seek power are sometimes the best ones to trust with it.

Dependence is Slavery.

To kowalski (sp?) myself....

Your post reminds me that I need to find a new lawyer that focuses on (and has) a pro-2nd Amendment bend, in case I ever need to make use of my firearm for self-defense, in the Oklahoma Area.

The one I had (idiot if the charges are true) got busted for owning a fully auto machine gun, kept in his office in a hidden safe he didn't tell the authorities about while they were searching, without the proper permit.

everyone knows you're supposed to keep those at home and in a better hiding place.

.

If the charges are true (He claimed there was a mistake in the permits that was not his fault), then all he has done is served as a good example for the pro-gun-control lobby.

He seemed rather arrogant in my dealing with him for the concealed carry class. Wouldn't answer questions, but just told you what you should do based on what HE thinks you should do.

(I asked him what Oklahoma law said about transporting firearms and ammunition to a shooting range and, rather than tell me what Oklahoma law said, he told me what he says I should do. That didn't answer my question.... but he wouldn't.)

He also had this big ol' cigar, unlit, that he twirled around when he made what he thought was a good point.

*shrug*

Nothing for him, but for the sake of freedoms under the 2nd amendment, I hope he is found not guilty.

Either way, I need a new lawyer. heh.

If he had been a Congressman, maybe he could have kept it in his office.

Almost worked for William Jeffeson..

Small things aren't going to take him down. They just won't get noticed and if they do they will get buried. If they don't get buried his supporters just won't care.

Look at Clinton.(Bill not the other one) What it will take to take down Obama is McCain (figuratively) ripping off his head and defecating down his neck.

Obama does not have normal political support. He has followers. We are talking Amy Semple McPherson followers, or William Miller followers. They type of people that get disappointed when the apocalypse doesn't arive.

While he may resemble a martian a little thing like earth bacteria isn't going to take him down.

If it were to come out that some of Obama's inner circle were racist anti-americans... it'd take Obama down..... oh, wait.

If it were to come out that Obama is so radically liberal so as to be compared to a Marxist... it'd take Obama down..... oh, wait.

If it were to come out that Obama has no experience and horrible judgement... it'd take Obama down...... oh, wait.

If Obama were to start grandstanding like an arrogant prick... it'd take Obama down..... oh, wait....

*sigh*

....

where's the aspirin?

----------------------
Dependence is Slavery.

And later when campaigning he actively pursued connections with terrorist organizations .. Oh wait

If his supporters flagrantly displayed images of mass murderers on their walls .. oh wait.

If he used earmarks to funnel money to his wife .. oh wait

If he used earmarks to funnel money to his employers .. oh wait

If a convicted swindler bought him his house .. oh wait.

If he started referring to women in derogatory and sexist ways .. oh wait.

McCain better rosen up and get ready to rip parts off of him and beat him with them.

Shh.

McCain said we shouldn't take about such things unless we're "out of touch with reality" because it is mean to discuss such things.

*shrug*

I don't mind being mean provided I am not lying.

type of leadership. It doesn't lead anywhere. He just gets up in front of the masses and smiles and clicks his fingers, saying, Yeah, uh-huh, oh yeah, you gotta gotta know it's true.

Yeah, it's cool. Uh-huh.

And people throw money and underwear at him as Bill and Hillary sneer and hiss in the grass.

The free exchange of ideas inevitably yields both heat and light.

on the other hand, the associations with terrorists and radicals as well as his high tax and socialist health care proposals are the issues which can defeat him.

An individuals historical performance is no guarantee of future ethical activity.

Case in point: CBS News

However, birds of a feather flock together and Obama with his cohorts are, as the old saying goes Thick as Thieves.

It's pretty much impossible to park in Cambridge without getting a ticket, but I guess Obama could afford a pair of wheels. (It's also impossible to make left turns, since once you are in Cambridge you can't get any further left).

*completely in jest but expect Obamites to say it anyway.
Also for a man coming from humble beginnings just how did he afford it ?

Could the original tickets were still be on file for someone to dig up? I ask this because if the car were nice enough, Obama's failure to pay parking tickets would show his normal elite hypocrisy. If it was a Yugo, never mind.

I heard that Allen West will be giving a speech this Saturday addressing Obama and the use of "race" in politics.

The GO WEST campaign will be videotaping the speech and it should be released sometime next week.
