He obviously has to get tougher and it's happening. The Politics of Hope may now give way to The Politics of the Usual. He may take down Hillary Clinton in the process and Democratic partisans loyal to him will probably stay loyal, but it will be interesting indeed to see how independents react to negative campaigning from Barack Obama once the general election draws closer.

My guess is that they may find all of this an unpleasant surprise. It certainly must be the case that Barack Obama did not want to travel down this road--if only because negative campaigning would also serve to take the bloom off of his rose.

"An adviser to Barack Obama called Hillary Clinton a “monster” during an interview with the Scottish newspaper The Scotsman.
In what the newspaper described as an “unguarded moment,” Obama foreign policy adviser Samantha Power said Clinton was stopping at nothing to catch up to Obama in the Democratic race."
“She is a monster, too — that is off the record — she is stooping to anything,” Power, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, told the newspaper."

Heh, the fight is ON!
