The NRCC tells candidates to hit Dems hard on huge expansion of SCHIP

Dems vote to cut Medicare, increase taxes, and give freebies to illegals.

This is what the NRCC is doing these days. House Democrats this evening voted a $50-billion expansion of the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP). In a message to all candidates around the country, they said:

Before voting on this Democrat legislation, all Members had an opportunity to vote on an alternative SCHIP reauthorization bill that would not cut seniors’ Medicare, would not tax Americans’ health insurance plans, and would not allow benefits for illegal aliens. Democrats rejected this common sense alternative. To see how Members’ voted on this Republican amendment, see http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2007/roll786.xml.

These folks oppose and consider the vote to be important: U.S. Chamber of Commerce, National Taxpayers Union (NTU), National Right to Life Committee (NRLC), Family Research Council (FRC), Concerned Women of America (CWA), and Americans for Tax Reform (ATR) – possible key vote.

These folks have submitted letters of opposition to Medicare cuts: American Association for Homecare, America’s Health Insurance Plans, Business Roundtable, Coalition for Pulmonary Fibrosis, Council for Quality Respiratory Care, Kidney Care Partners, MedCath, National Emphysema/COPD Association, National Surgical Hospitals, Physician Hospitals of America, RetireSafe, U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and United Surgical Partners International.

So how bad did the Dems screw up today? NRCC political director Terry Carnack writes: "The Democratic leadership has just led many of their most vulnerable members off a cliff with this vote (only 10 Ds broke ranks and voted the right way)."

To see how each member of Congress voted on the Democrat bill, check the roll call.

The NRCC release is headlined:

Democrats Vote to Cut Medicare, Increase Taxes, and Open the Door to Taxpayer-Funded Healthcare for Illegal Immigrants.

And that's exactly what these fools did, often merely because they have a giant "D" on their lapel.

I am sure it is going to be so easy for people to go and say how dare Democrats vote for "State Children's Health Insurance Program". It is one of those things named that will be very difficult to attack no matter how bad the bill could be. It like a bill called "Stop clubbing puppies program" no matter what is in it or how stupid it is people will probably not get by the name or the idea of helping kids with health needs.

not to go after them on this monstrosity of a bill I think the American public is smart enough to realize that the pretty paper often hides a bad gift.

Just saying watch out. I think everyone here realizes politics is not just about good policy but about perception. Democrats will say they are giving more access to health care for lower income kids. It isn't something a lot of people get mad about so the idea of already declaring war on people that support it without a proper plan will backfire

Americans don't want to spend hours and hours studying all the pros and cons of bills, but when we tell them that this bill extends Medicaid coverage to people who make over $80,000 per year, the ax will fall.

I meant what I said and I said what I meant. An elephant's faithful 100 percent.

The NRCC must be run by special ed graduates, I swear to God. The bill takes money from old people (Medicare Advantage cuts) and gives it to illegal aliens (as the Dems removed the provision you had to bring documents and prove you are a citizen to get SCHIP) How friggin hard would it be to beat the Dems MERCILESSLY on grabbing money from senior citizens and giving it to illegals? No wonder we're a minority party. I know the Dems are worried we might catch on to that angle, as they spent a lot of the floor debate denying they were giving it to illegals. Is the GOP leadership smart enough to use this to whip up opposition to this plan? NO!!! We're the stupid party, not the evil party. Score one for Team Evil. Sigh.

You can do what you want somewhere else.
