Yeah, they probably will be calling their old friend Leroy on the phone, at that.

Our opposite numbers are starting to contemplate the possibility - the faint, quiet, nigh-minuscule possibility - that events will not spontaneously array themselves in perfect harmony with the smallest whim of the antiwar movement (as opposed to the last seven years, which of course have been nothing but progressive triumph after triumph). How are they reacting to this?
About as you'd expect (H/T: The Campaign Spot):
I thought about this the other night over dinner in a global metropolis not very far from your own with the widow and the sister of my late political mentor, Abbie Hoffman, who after he organized street demonstrations outside the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago had been put on trial for conspiracy because of it. I thought (because one must always consider all possibilities, including unlikely ones): What if? What if they succeed in pushing that nomination, and thus their political party, back into the contraints of a past and horrible century?
For us rabble-rousers out here that don’t consider any American political party to be “ours,” that scenario would put Plan B into play. We have no illusions that it has yet been surrendered or that we have yet taken it: Oh, we’d still go to Denver, not to enter the convention hall, but to reduce it to symbolic rubble from the outside.
Call it Plan Jericho: Like Joshua of the Old Testament and his troops who circled the halls of the city, marched around it silently for six days, on the seventh day marched around it seven times more and then, on cue, sounded a horn to end the silence and shout all at once, toppled the walls, entered the city, and “killed” (the Bible says so literally, but this time it will be politically, not mortally) every man, woman and superdelegate – including any imposter they might “nominate” by imposition – that did not participate in the certain walk-out protest that will occur under their scenario and instead chooses to remain inside the hall.
It won’t be the chaotic street protest and battle with the cops that occurred in ’68: we’ve learned too much from that. It will be organized, Gandhian in its adherence to discipline and nonviolence, and more massive than anything maybe ever seen in the United States’ long history of social movements. If the party leaders choose to destroy democracy by denying the fair-and-square winner the nomination, democracy will then be duty bound to destroy the party.
Read on.
A cruel man would be posting travel information for Denver right now; much as it's a temptation, this other Campaign Spot post suggests that the city really isn't what you'd call ready for the storm that's looming on the horizon. And, while I may weep no tears for the Denver city government I do feel sorry for any shop owner within half a mile of the convention center. It's not their fault that the DNC couldn't organize an orgy in a brothel; it's certainly not their fault that the Democratic Party is on the teasing verge of discovering once and for all why you shouldn't use "mutual appreciation of each other's victimhood" as a binding agent.
But neither am I inclined to actually stand in their way to self-immolation, either. Still early days, yet - although not as early as they were, this time last month, when we were being assured that the primaries would be over 03/05? - and perhaps the bleeding will stop for the Obama campaign. Perhaps the super-delegates will end the issue once and for all. And perhaps I'll even get a pony. But if I don't get my pony, thus forcing Al Giordano and twenty thousand of his colleagues to... direct action all over Denver's Pepsi Center, I just want to make this clear to the Democrats:
You earned this.

If they nominate him they will be able to restore unity and hope to their frayed and battered fortunes.
AL Gore a real change that will bring hope of a better tomorrow.

Seriously, I have about 15 scenarios running through my head about the convention. My wife is going to be giving birth hopefully next week and I am, actually a little frightened about the possibilities of violence hitting the streets. I don't want to be considered too wacko here but I remember the backlash from the Rodney King incident in Phoenix when I was in high school, and I can't help but think that it is time to clean my gun...just in case. I hope it won't go down that way but I was a boyscout and am an Army Vet...and now I will be protecting my first child and Wife....better safe than sorry.

Do you think the DPD will take counter-riot volunteers? Seriously, I will be living near downtown that week, and I am not looking forward to it. We better sell a lot of beer, burgers, and lap dances, because we are going to need the tax revenue to clean this up.

Captain who wondered why we always took our name tags off, in these kinds of scenarios. Well, Duh!!! Besides, the clips hurt if you get punched in the chest. Not that any member of the "social movement" would ever throw a punch at an officer.

The kos kidz, moveon.orgs, & huffpos of the US believe they now are the power in the democrat party. They are refusing to stand by & see their "perfect will" thwarted. I look forward to the possiblity of a fractured fracas; however, I'm not rooting for physical injuries. I fear these people would have no problem causing those, & the targets will be the innocent. I've seen this scenario somewhere before...
the jawbone of an ass?
They got that part covered . . .
Re: the Denver security forces - I heard they spent a good bit of money training on . . . sensitivity issues.
Among those who talk this talk, I hear frequent references to Seattle in 1999, the WTO meetings where black-hooded anarchists trashed storefronts, set fires, and clashed with the cops. It would seem their ilk will be over-represented among those who show up in Denver.
I feel sorry for the citizenry.
But the Dems have the whole women getting you in trouble thing figured out too.

Though I can't imagine when you'd have time to ride it. This is going to be way too much fun that even ice cream and pony rides don't compare. As you say yourself, this is the best Democratic Primary EVER! ::smile::
