I can't say what I'd like to here because I find that abiding by the maxim de mortuis, nil nisi bonum is always a good idea.
So, open thread.

We certainly hope this will be reality!

For those who are interested, I voted at one of the Louisiana caucuses. Thought I'd fill people in:
1) I don't know what other caucuses looked like around the state, but in typical Louisiana fashion, the one I voted at was slightly chaotic. The caucuses are not being run by the Secretary of State (and under them, Elections) offices, but rather the Louisiana Republican Party. It was GOP activists manning the entire operation, and though everything will likely turn out fine, it had a bit of a chaotic feel. Registered Republicans could vote, and no one else.
2) Voters were not voting for a Presidential candidate, they were voting for delegates. Individuals filed to be delegates and alternative delegates, and voters were asked to pick fifteen delegates and ten alternative delegates, at least at the CD-06 ballot location. On my ballot, there were close to 100 people running for the delegate positions, and less than that for alternate positions.
3) The only organized Presidential campaigns were the McCain, Romney and Ron Paul campaigns. Ron Paul blazed through Shreveport, Baton Rouge and New Orleans on Monday, but there haven't been any recent stops in Louisiana by major candidates lately, though Giuliani, Romney and Thompson all came earlier in the year and McCain came last year. Apparently there may have been Thompson delegates as well. There were also other delegate tickets as well, including one for "pro-life, pro-family voters."
4) It is unclear what the results will be. If it was mostly non-activists who voted, the sense is that they'll fall behind Presidential candidates, with the McCain, Romney and Paul teams passing out push cards with their delegate lists at my location. If it was mostly activists who voted, they may vote in large part for their friends who ran, potentially creating a GOP State Convention where the national delegation is truly up for grabs. Reportedly, half of the delegate list for the Ron Paul campaign was disqualified because they were registered as Democrats and Libertarians, which may dent any momentum the Paul campaign had coming out of Monday. We should know more though when the state GOP issues results.
I just got my National Review, the one with the Liberal Fascism cover. The folks there had a long article about "national historic preservation districts," which are apparently proliferating. They are pushed by liberals as a way to make growth in an area subject to federal zoning. There is no compensation paid to the landowners. And quite a few of these historic districts are pretty tenuous. The whole state of Tennessee, for instance, is a historic district.
My blood boils. Stuff like this goes on and on and on and we lose more battles then we win.
Heck NYC was the first capitol of the country. Maybe they should be historic districts.
Thankfully FL would be safe unless they wanted to zone individual citizens.

think about this:

being floated by one of the campaigns (most likely McCain) in an attempt to pick up the Thompson voters.
But to make more clear what I mean, if Thompson's goal was to be VP, his best course would be to stay in until at least super Tuesday. Then his delegates might be able to make a difference in this muddy, crappy field.
The reason I think it's McCain's operatives floating this is that it keeps being pointed out that he's McCain's good friend, so the implication is that that is who he'd like to endorse. Romney doesn't need to do this, he's likely picking up a plurality of Thompson supporters anyways.
They claim to be "fair and balanced" but it's just a bunch of BS. The way they treat Fred is similar to how Politico treated him, pathetic.

Should make any self respecting republican concerned, as should it that during the Dem debate last night, all 3 candidates kept saying repeatedly that McCain is the presumed nominee.

Didn't think I would like it, but recorded the first 2 anyways. Just got around to watching them and was pleasantly surprised. Have to watch last night's episode sitting in my DVR right now :)

I whole-heartedly agree. I was a bit skeptical since it's Fox and it has Summer Glau (who is awesome but Firefly alums seem to be cursed with good projects that don't take off, although Adam Baldwin in Chuck seems to have broken that).
I like it so far, although there's a bit too much angsty teenager stuff for my liking.
It's certainly not a perfect show, but all in all, one that I'll be watching. And Glau is/was a great choice for her role.

I don't know about you, however when it was determined that GWB was going to be the nominee in 2000, many of us (conservatives) were less than enthused at his chances. The conventional wisdom was that Gore would win pretty handily, based on the relative "good times" of the Clinton term - whether Clinton could legitimately claim the credit or not.
I'll be forthright & say that right now McCain is my least favorite of the credible choices. Huckabee's right above him, then Rudy & then Mitt. "They" say that Mitt can't win. He's flip-flopped & is a Mormon & looks "too" perfect. Those who want can make cases for any of the candidates as to why the "can't" win in November.
I don't know any real scenario where it would be better for the country to have a Hillary or Obama presidency. I would honestly not be jazzed about a McCain or Huckabee run UNLESS they can credibly mend fences with conservatives - & I believe that most who vote republican are fairly conservative when it comes to the issues. While I may not have the impetus to go door to door for the presidential candidate, there are many other offices & candidates for whom I'll be happy to slog through the streets. I am in the 5th congressional district of TN - the congressional seat once held by Andrew Jackson. (I'm less than 2 miles from being in Marsha Blackburn's district, darnit!) There has been some redistricting & we have a candidate that may have a chance & he may get some of my time. I will definitely (Lord willing) work for my state representative because he's a real conservative & has done a tremendous job in the state house - we're 4 seats in the state house from taking it away from democrat control, & that would be a definite new day!
Don't give up hope!
I remember hearing about this in December and I looked for a follow-up but didn't see it (maybe I'm just not looking hard enough). The attorney who keyed a Marine's car has been sentenced to probation and must donate to a charity. Here's a write-up:

Well, less than a week and I'm off to vote here in Florida. As someone noted awhile back on here, I have plenty of people who ask me about politics and usually vote on my recommendation.
Scary, actually.
While flattered, I SO wish people would at least learn a little about where candidates stand, then go vote.
What's more, those I talk to - whether friends, acquaintances, sometimes outright strangers - tell me they vote for somebody based on entirely superficial reasons...
...because they like someone's personality, or the way they look, or...you fill in the blank. Ask 'em about issues? They look at you like a calf looking at a new gate.
Crazy, I tell ya!
As it stands (alas, since Fred's out) my preferences are:
Mitt
Rudy
McCain (just seems weird using only his first name)
Huck
We'll see how it unfolds...
Rasmussen gives Mitt a 5 pt lead, but other polls show McCain ahead and Rudy is always a close 2nd or essentially tied for 2nd.
you'd spike the ball in front of the faces of the Fredheads, is that what you mean by that? Not "saying what I'd like to here", because "speak well of the dead" is a good idea?
Is that supposed to pass for graciousness?
Hmmmph. Typical.
