Wyoming Caucus Early Results: Romney 6, Fred 1, Hunter 1 [Updated Final: Romney 8, Fred 3, Hunter 1]
Ron Paul 0. Nobody else campaigned there.

As I expected, Mitt Romney wins today's Wyoming caucus, beating back a late effort by Fred Thompson - note that these are not final results (caucuses closed at 5pm EST):
Mitt Romney captured his first win of the Republican presidential race, gaining most of Wyoming's delegates at stake in GOP caucuses on Saturday.
The former Massachusetts governor won six of the first eight delegates to be selected. Former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson and California Rep. Duncan Hunter won one apiece, meaning no other candidate could beat Romney. Caucuses were still being held to decide all 12 delegates at stake.
The win was a boost for Romney, coming two days after his loss to Mike Huckabee in the Iowa caucuses and three days before the first-in-the- nation primary in New Hampshire. Those two states have attracted most of the political attention. Wyoming had scheduled its GOP county conventions earlier to attract candidates to the state but had only modest results.
Romney visited Wyoming in August and November and three of his five sons campaigned in the state. One son, Josh Romney, owns a ranch in southwest Wyoming.
"Number one, he campaigned here," delegate Leigh Vosler of Cheyenne said of Romney. "I think that helped while some other candidates ignored us. But also he's the right person for the job."
Hunter, Thompson and Ron Paul all stopped by the state—visits they probably wouldn't have made except for this year's early conventions—and candidates have sent Wyoming's GOP voters a flood of campaign mail. Huckabee, the former Arkansas governor, did not visit Wyoming and drew little support. Arizona Sen. John McCain and former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani also did not visit and received little support.
H/T.
UPDATE: CNN reports now 8 of the 12 delegates for Romney, 2 for Fred and 1 for Hunter, with 91% reporting.
UPDATED AGAIN: Final: Romney 8, Fred 3, Hunter 1.

This is definatly a big rebound for Romney after placing second in Iowa. NH and SC will be large deciding factors still.

Although only 14 delegates are awarded at this time, with the other 14, they amount to more than New Hampshire.
That's right, Wyoming has more delegates than the 'gravely important' New Hampshire.
Counting all delegates to date... Romney is in the lead: (if my calculations are somewhat correct):
Mitt at 16, Huck at 13, Thompson at about 7 and McCain at 5.
Romney will continue to lead after a 2nd place finish in NH. Is Romney dead after a 2nd place finish in NH? HELL NO. It will be a long race, but I believe Romney will come out up top.
Very appropriate to see our nation's (arguably) most conservative state give the nod to the 3 most conservative candidates.
Good for Romney! And I'm pleased to see Duncan Hunter come away with one delegate. He's as rock solid as they come.

It's important to consider the large influence of the Mormon church in Wyoming (speaking as someone who lived in the area). This no doubt was a huge influece just as the evangelical influence in Iowa. It would have been a major shock if Romney didn't win the state. I'm actually shocked he didn't take all of it.

Anyone who knows Wyoming knows that this is amazing for Romney, as Wyoming is very anti-Utah and there is a hoard of anti-Mormonism there. Romney ever one in the eastern areas of the state, Laramie and Cheyenne, which boo and hiss everytime BYU ever goes there. Amazing. I am very happy the efforts of Duncan Hunter paid off and he got something for all his great efforts.
the guy won SEVENTY+ percent of the vote. what more do you want? that's not the 10% Mormon population propelling their boy to the top; that's a landslide.
That's 70 percent of the delegates, not 70 percent of the vote. Very good delegate wise, but not actually a "landslide".
Are you seeing straight? 70% is not a landslide? Give me a break. You can be so against someone that you cannot think rationally.
70 percent of population is a landslide. Winning by an unknown margin in 35-40% of the counties in a state is not the same thing. Read up a little on how Wyoming picks its delegates.
I can get.
Go Mitt!
On another note my wife and friends keep making fun of me because I am a sports fanatic but I am constantly skipping sports events for political events (debates, etc.) I am intrigued to see if Mitt and Fred tweak their message tonight.
* PRIESTCRAFT is thus defined: “The stratagem and frauds of priests; fraud or imposition in religious concerns. Management of selfish and ambitious priests to gain wealth and power, or to impose upon the credulity of others.”
I am a rabid Magic fan and love watching the NFL, (even though the Rams stink) but ever since I found Redstate I've been close to obsessed with politics. Especially once I honed in on Mitt Romney. I just hope it doesn't affect school, class starts Monday.

You're 5-points behind in nearly all the polls that came out today. Definitely within striking distance. Please do the GOP--and more importantly, we pro-life conservatives, the favor of taking out McCain.

Mitt is in the lead. So, despite all the hype about Huckabee and McCain, the two most liberal candidates, an across the board conservative is leading in delagates. I wish Thompson were in Mitt's position. But I guess one shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth.
Why do you say "Please do the GOP--and more importantly, we pro-life conservatives, the favor of taking out McCain,"?
That makes no sense. McCain has the strongest proven pro-life record of ANY of the big 5, certainly much stronger then Romney.
I'd understand if you were rooting for him to take out Giuliani, but McCain makes no sense.

Not that I mind in any way. Now it will start to get interesting...

why hasn't the press covered this primary...if it wasn't for RS i wouldn't have known about it???
I want to know... Why do we skip from Iowa straight over Wyoming and to New Hampshire? I haven't heard squat about this anywhere but here. And it's only a blurb on Drudge... why is it not news?
