But Only For Health Insurance

By Dan McLaughlin Posted in Comments (14) / Email this page » / Leave a comment »

Hillary! wants to make it illegal to get a job if you don't have proof of health insurance:

She said she could envision a day when "you have to show proof to your employer that you're insured as a part of the job interview — like when your kid goes to school and has to show proof of vaccination," but said such details would be worked out through negotiations with Congress.

Proof of health insurance, yes. Proof of citizenship, no; that would be unfair and mean-spirited. Also, it's racist to require proof of citizenship and eligibility to vote.

Got that straight?

I find the hypocrisy breathtaking.

Considering that most Americans get their health insurance from their current employer, it'd stop people from looking to change jobs since most don't like to have their employers know that they're looking for a new job or moon-lighting.

It'd also stop teenagers and young adults, those who don't have jobs since their either in high school or college and don't always have jobs from entering the job market.

Honestly, this idea creates frictional employment issues that belong in France, not America.

I'd love to hear Shrillary try to answer that question.

What's more important, seeing someone's insurance papers or their proof of citizenship, and why?

not that I am a big interventionist, but we are moving inexorably towards some sort of national health care fiasco, Some version of this would still be infinitely preferable.

Many problems would arise though. not least of which would be the possibility of abuse. You might get some people on board if you required it and in order to get health care you had to also be a legal resident.

Ask for proof of insurance at the voting booth as proof of ID. Just a thought

Hillary is way behind the times. Children haven't needed to show proof of vaccination for many many years because the nut cases are afraid it will harm their precious ones.

As long as we are checking papers, we should require anyone running for congress to show proof of a brain.

could be faked so easily that it wasn't worth checking. At least that's what the Hillarys of the world say when it comes to proof of citizenship.

but does this even pass a constitutional smell test? I could almost see the justification under the "general welfare" clause of the enumerated powers in the constitution for taxpayer funded universal health care (not that I'm in favor of it) but mandating insurance coverage seems a bit of a stretch of federal power. Maybe they'll find something in the penumbra.

It's a very clever plan. In other countries, everyone is forced to pay for insurance through their taxes, and the non-taxpaying indigent get healthcare essentially in the form of welfare.

In Hillary's plan, the only difference is that your mandatory health-insurance premium is called something other than a tax payment. Logically, proof of payment is something that you will need to provide to the IRS when you file your tax return. Unless Hillary wants to create a duplicative bureaucracy with similar powers to do the same thing. (She might, at that.)

One of the net effects is to mandate a level of spending on healthcare that is higher than what we have today.

What's missing is a feature that is present in every other country that coerces people to buy health insurance (whether this is called taxation or a clever disguise like Clinton's): rationing.

Costs under this plan will fly through the roof with nothing to contain them. Until Hillary's second term, when she proposes the natural fix to the problem: a single-payer plan in which the government can control costs the same way it does everywhere else, by restricting access to medical procedures.

I'll assume that if you are unemployed and looking for work, you probably have a tough time affording health insurance, which is why you are looking for a job in the first place. So does an employer say "Sorry Sir, you are well qualified for the job and we'd love to hire you, but you don't have health insurance. You'll have to find a way to make money without a job before we can bring you in here."

Of course every company that still offers health insurance is ready to drop it if it appears the govt will provide it for "free".

So the Hillarys say they'll offer tax breaks to companies that offer it instead of the govt program.

But now Hillary says that she'll punish the companies and/or the workers unless the workers can prove they are on the govt plan, thus not needing the company plan.

Next in line will be all large companies dumping all retiree health care benefits, since Aunt Hillary already has them paying taxes to provide these people with their "free" health care.

Is there ANYTHING in this plan that makes sense? It's clear that she's trying a backdoor way to get Uncle Sam to take lots and lots more of our tax dollars in exchange for lowering health care for 250M of us so that the other 50M are (supposedly) better off.

Healthcare now becomes a "perk" as part of your employment, effectively providing "proof" of insurance. Nothing will prevent employers from offering the same deal you get today except now it's an enticement. But I am guessing that deal will not be offered to the guy at Burger King. Gosh, I love class warfare! It's the epitome of Hillary's Socialist Manifesto; ah, what vision!

The real sotto voce here is your point on proof of citizenship. Make no mistake, while coverage for illegal aliens is curiously not currently addressed, at some point they will be covered by this plan. Sheesh, I can see them lining up now at the borders and airports all over the world. Bring us your tired, sick huddled masses yearning for free healthcare; and as a bonus Bob, what do we have? Free citizenship to those illegals that anchor themselves by coming here pregnant, years of free government cheese (courtesy of YOU taxpayers) and a free interview on CNN when ICE tries to deport you for breaking US Law! -APPLAUSE-.

Ditto the ability of slip n' fall attorneys to sue the government over your alleged healthcare faux pas. Uncle Sam has deeper pockets and hey, who would juries want to zap more than the government? Oooh, the excitement is building.

Bottom line;
-We pay more of our wages for all those who choose not to pay or are unwilling to pay
-Costs go up, quality of care goes down
- The same people managing the Post Office will now manage your life and death health decisions

We may need to make some adjustments in our healthcare system, but socialism is NOT the answer.
