A lot of us wondered why on earth he got in in the first place, but now it's all history. Tommy Thompson has thrown in the towel and exited the race for President.
That's just as well. It'll be a little easier in September having just one Thompson in the race.

Huckabee, Fred, Guiliani, Brownback, Paul, Tancredo, and Hunter.
Given that all of the "recent" presidents have been either sitting VPs or sitting Govs for quite some time, only Romney matches the typical profile.
While his campaign never went anywhere, and his campaigning from the little I've seen has been cringe-worthy, it's sad that Thompson went down in flames so badly. Thompson was one of the most impressive GOP governors in recent memory. During his 14 years in Wisconsin Thompson pioneered both welfare reform and school choice initiatives, which thanks to his leadership and innovation became models for the federal government. I can't help but think that if we could just snap our fingers and put the best qualified person in the Oval Office that'd he'd be leaps and bounds ahead of everyone else in the GOP field.
That said, hopefully his departure will convince his fellow also-rans that it's way past time to step aside.

Most of these guys are running for VP.

... and now his detractors will have to choose someone else to kick around, I guess.
