There's no way of predicting the future, but let's hope this ABC News piece on Iraq is the first of many good-news broadcasts we'll be seeing in the coming months.

Hopefully this portends well for the future, not only in Iraq, as U.S./Iraqi Surge continues, but also for our news media. No way will the media, as a whole, start reporting the real positive things going on there. But if some regularly do (assuming the good news continues), that can only help make it more difficult for the Democrats to pull the plug on funding for the troops in Iraq.

Should they report that murders were up in Iraq last month as a whole? That the improvements in Baghdad were offset by "surges" in violence in other parts of the country?

Or are we better off not knowing that kind of stuff?

Should we be warmed by the reports that the market McCain visited are "just like those in Indidana"?

Is it ok to also mention that since that visit, 21 workers and merchants in that market have been kidnapped and executed or it better we don't know?

Maybe the media reports have been bad coming from Iraq for a different reason than bias, maybe things really suck there right now and to report anything else is dishonest.

that those other "surges" happened, coincidentally, I'm sure, after the Democrats in Congress voted for surrender.

At least you didn't blame Rosie O'Donnel.

I mean, what she says means more than 1300 years of violence between Shiite and Sunnis.

"U.S. military spokesman, Major General William Caldwell, told reporters at a news conference Wednesday that the overall death toll in Baghdad has dropped, but that countrywide the casualty rate has not decreased as much as they had hoped."

Implying the overall rate is down throughout Iraq, just not as much as we hoped.

See the whole article and there are more news reports out there stating the same thing. Even NPR had to admit this news on their Morning Edition Program.

And by the way... where have you been for the last 3 years as the media has gone out of its way to present every single bombing and murder by the various Islamic terror groups as the ONLY news out of Iraq.

Is it that you want bad news and are convinced that is the only take possible?

Cynicism does not even come close to equaling wisdom.

So, relax.... maybe some good things can... and are happening.

as you do as well, because all of that has been reported, as we know also.

Please pay attention to your last paragraph,"maybe the media",etc. Just why would it be dishonest to "report anything else" if in fact there is something else to report?

You are tipping your hand a little to heavily, try and be more subtle.

Even if it kills the drive-by media to admit it!

...the MSM's credibility and the political future of hundreds of Democrats depends on this country's failure in Iraq. If we win, a lot of defeatniks will be looking for new jobs.

If Petreaus is successful, the headlines will assuredly read, "Surge stabilizes Iraq. Creates unemployment in U.S."

heh. silly MSMers, you're so predictable!

he wasn't nearly so emphatic. "Mixed results" was one way he characterized the situation. Additionally, he said it is too early to tell whether the "surge" is working. There are both encouraging signs (especially in Baghdad) and cases where the enemy has simply moved north as the pressure has been applied to Baghdad.

Petraeus seemed generally straightforward and I would expect him to present the case as optimistically as he feels he can. My conclusion based on his comments -- it's much too early to tell.

Even if they do report improvements, they won't say why. They'll probably attribute it to Al'Sadr. I hope Americans are smart enough to link "Success" with "Surge" without having it spelled out for them.

Double post just because this I love this thread and that piece by ABC. Here's to praying a new day is dawning.

I'd love to believe the surge is working but this seems a bit premature and a bit too much like propaganda. I could be wrong, but I'm guessing ABC News has its license up for renewal or something.

The only propanganda coming from ABC is liberal propaganda. If they report something like this it is because they cannot deny it anymore. ABC is loaded with liberal elitist hacks. What planet are you from? Or are you some liberal troll.

I agree their bias is obvious and very liberal, but judging from their programming they're more patronizing than elitist. One gets the feeling that they have a very low opinion of their audience, and they feed them intellectual gruel, the kind only a non-elitist could produce on a sustained basis.

And I do think that on rare occasions the major networks do favors for the Bush administration, though it's always for selfish reasons. I know on this site we're coming at things from a particular perspective, but it's useful to understand people's complex motives when they do things. Corporations just want to make money and they're only going to let the liberals they hire go so far.

Wow, when did you become a conservative, yesterday? First, being patronizing and being elitist are one and the same. The liberal elites look down on middle America. Tehy are patronizing and elitist. And the MSM favoring Bush. Wow. Just Wow. I don't know where to begin. Really. I will say their your anti-corporatism is misguided. The people responsible for editing and content ofthe news are all liberals. I love how liberals think the media is right-wing because it is free market. Man, it is just so ridiculous that I dont have a response.

Whats the excuse for the other 5 years ?

I watched this yesterday at my small gym and was impressed. The day before I watched CNN. It was like NIGHT AND DAY! I'll tell you, forget network news, NOTHING will make you more depressed than watching CNN for an hour.

I like Charlie Gibson, he seems stand up. Good for them for at least telling ONE small story of progress in Iraq

Mike, were are you when we need you? Where's that French broad with the anglicized name? Why can't we get a headline like the one used on McCain," American Pulitzer Prize Hopeful Haggles in Baghdad Market", with a chorus of media harlots chiming in on background. Who does ABC think they are, Fox News?

What the hells going on here?
