But Of Course!

Professional football season is upon is--gosh, wasn't it just yesterday that my beloved Bears tanked in the Super Bowl? Anyway, a funny aside about the beginnings of training camp can be found here:

Certainly, this is no make-or-break weekend. It's a weekend for first impressions, which sometimes turn out to be accurate. Quarterback Heath Shuler, the third pick in 1994, looked lost and threw passes into the ground during his introduction to the NFL and never got much better. But cornerback Champ Bailey (seventh, 1999) looked good right from the start en route to becoming a perennial Pro Bowl choice.

(Emphasis mine.) I guess Shuler was a natural fit for Congress after all, no?

those who can't, legislate.

Heath Shuler had a great arm, good wheels, and was a pretty tough guy. Unfortunately, Heath lacked a certain something above the neck.

Same thing in Congress. He looks good and says all the right things to make the voters think he's going to be their star. Then he shows that he still lacks IQ. Now he also seems to have lost whatever fortitude he may have had.

As a Redskin fan, I lived though the pain that is Heath Shuler. Now, North Carolina voters, it's your turn to experience the disappointment that is Heath.

A Heath Schuler rookie card, and Rick Mirer rookie cards. I am looking for Ryan Leaf for the trifecta.

It's a bit unfair to compare Shuler to Champ Bailey, even though he went higher in the draft. After all, Shuler attended University of Tennessee. Poor guy!
