Supporting the Troops Means Defending Them When They Carry Out The Mission

Congressional Democrats are in thrall with the idea that it is possible to support the troops but not the mission. They like that particular turn of phrase because it allows them to appear like the troops best friend even as they do everything in their power to prevent them from successfully doing their jobs. Well, all that is about to change.
Today in Italy, a judge indicted Spec. Mario Lozano for murder and attempted murder. The charges stem from the fatal shooting of Italian intelligence officer Nicola Calipari at a vehicle checkpoint in Iraq. Calipari was on his way to the Baghdad airport after securing the release of Italian journalist Giuliana Sgrena from an insurgent group. Sgrena was in the car at the time of the shooting. Spec. Lozano will be tried in abstensia.
The United States investigated the incident and determined that the car carrying Calipari approached the checkpoint at a high rate of speed--50-60 mph--and ignored orders to stop, causing the soldiers manning the checkpoint to open fire. The Italian government disagrees, claiming that the vehicle was traveling at 20-30 mph and complaining that there were no speed limit signs posted on the road.
The question then for Democrats who are so eager to support the troops is will they support Spec. Lozano? Will they call upon the Italian Government to drop the charges against him because he was only carrying out his mission? This is where the internal contradiction of “support the troops but not the mission” is laid bare. If Democrats’ support for the troops outweighs their disagreement with the mission, they will denounce the charges against him. If their contempt for the mission outweighs their concern for the troops, they will be silent while an otherwise good and upstanding US soldier is treated as a murderer by a foreign justice system.
No man can serve two masters, and neither can a politician. Either the troops or the mission will have to win out. So the gauntlet has been laid down. Which one will you pick, Democrats?

this odious bit of detritus, Sgrena, claimed that the car was hit by heavy fire.
photos from La Reppublica show the number as much less than a half dozen.
Too bad about the guy getting killed, but when you play James Bond in a war zone unfortunate things happen.
Italy has now joined Spain if making a logical Darwinian outcome a criminal offense
At least the ones who fly the military version of the B-757 she has requested continuous routine access to in order to fly her family, friends, and California Democrat business associates.

rather than 50-60, that makes even more inexcusable their refusal to stop (i.e., they can't claim not to have seen/heard the order, which, if still unlikely, might at least be plausible at a higher speed). the prosecution's argument is self-defeating.
You can help Mario by contributing to his defense fund.

Remember: Democrats love soldiers, cops, firemen and the like as long as they don't do anything. This is an infallible rule to discern Democrat behavior.
Body armor? Sure. The troops are passive in that debate - they are people getting shot at. Give them more stuff.
Medical benefits for 9/11 workers? Sure. Again, the workers are passive, not doing anything, and can be portrayed as victims. Give them more stuff.
But when it comes to supporting or defending anything they do that engenders any controversy in the slightest, the Democrats are right behind them - tails turned, and headed full speed in the opposite direction. Or worse, leading the charge against them.
