Gulf of Tonkin, redux?
Because we know that history alway repeats itself exactly (when it's convenient to support the current meme).

Not so much. In fact, quite the opposite. According to Reuters:
U.S. defense officials on Thursday said a rumored Iranian missile strike on a U.S. naval vessel in the Gulf was not true.
"No such event took place," said one of the officials on condition of anonymity. The bond market briefly pared losses on talk of possible military engagement between the United States and Iran, but turned back down after the Defense Department said the incident did not occur.
Sure sounds like an administration looking for an excuse to start another shooting war, to me [warning: Kos link]. Only not at all. Oh, well.
Look, working to deter the nuclearization of Iran, and cracking down on their violent (and monetary) involvement in a country (Iraq) where we are actively engaged both militarily and diplomatically, is neither expanding the current war, nor picking a fight with another country - it's just basic self-preservation on our part.
