To Ted Strickland, Governor of the great state of Ohio, for putting the needs and the interests of the public education complex in his state above the needs of . . . you know . . . actual students. I mean, when you read this, it's pretty difficult--if not downright impossible--to come to any other conclusion, right?

Ohio's public school "leaders" would likely read this and nod their heads in approval. Heaven forbid, after all, that they should have to work to win out in the marketplace instead of just having Governor Strickland pull some strings to ensure that the public education sector maintain its cushy position in the state of Ohio, the needs of Ohio's students and their parents notwithstanding.

even while knowing he had lots of warts and was a strong lefty. (Plenty, plenty of GOP advertising carried that warning prior to 2006 Election Day). Are Ohioans surprised that a Dem governor is beholden to the public education lobby? Apparently, Ohioans (as did Marylanders) felt it was more important to express their disgruntlement with the Iraq War this past November. (Plus, Ohioans did have lots of gripes with their state GOP and GOP governor, IIRC.)

But, elections aren't opinion polls. They don't offer you the option to just vote "against" someone or some party, consequence-free. Whatever vote you cast in the November polling booth leads, either directly or indirectly, to someone getting power. Ohioans chose Ted Strickland over Ken Blackwell. Whatever warts Blackwell or the state GOP had, a majority of Ohioans felt they were warty enough to favor Strickland.

As one of my old bosses said, we respect people's choices in this country---and we expect them to live with the consequences of those choices.

Now it's time for Ohioans to take their medicine.

Now they must be punished.
