Not Buying Into the Fred Thompson Hype?

A week ago my friend Matt Lewis wrote on Townhall's blog that he wasn't "buying into the Fred Thompson hype." Lewis analyzed Thompson's style, comparing him to Donald Rumsfeld. "[W]hile everyone else is talking about what a stud he is, I just don't see it," Lewis wrote.
Lewis, who is Townhall's director of operations, stirred up quite a debate, and got the attention of many of us at RedState when he jokingly referred to us as FRedState. It seemed fair, after all, since Thompson did make his blogging debut on RedState by contributing three posts, including one about his cancer that was linked by the Drudge Report.
But something has happened in the past week at Lewis' employer. Over the course of the past eight days, Townhall has run a total of five Thompson columns. Most of Thompson's work has appeared after Lewis' critical comments.
All of this has left me wondering if Lewis and Townhall have bought into the hype yet?

about the judgment of anyone who could look at what Don Rumsfeld did at Defense in comparison with any other SecDef since Forrestal or Marshall and "just [not] see it."
Not only was it a cheap shot it was a self-beclowning.

In other news today, Drudge links to an article about people digging up dirt on Fred. I would link to it here, but the article is currently unavailable so I can't even read it.
Typical politics as usual. If you can't beat the opposition in the arena of ideas, throw mud!
Time to...... RUN FRED, RUN!
Here's the article you were referring to:
Rex and the City: Opponents want dirt on Thompson

Former Tennessee U.S. Senator Fred Thompson is drawing nationwide attention for his ongoing flirtation with running for president. He is also drawing a little unwanted attention here in Nashville of a very different kind.
Nashville law circles were abuzz last week about professional snoops – either private investigators or opposition research political types - combing public records in Metro buildings looking for potential dirt on Thompson. Property records seemed to be at the top of their list.
The word trickled up to Republican Party sources, who insist it is Thompson’s potential GOP primary opponents looking for ammo to use should the television star make the race.
Thompson running is a lock, according to GOP sources in the state who know him well. In fact, leading Tennessee Republicans surmise Thompson staying away from actively campaigning and being selective with media appearances is another sign he is going to get in the White House 2008 race.
"Going on the road for months at a time, and for all practical purposes, just checking [in] every once in a while, I wouldn't do that," he told Fox's Neil Cavuto. "I don't think it has to be done that way. I know people will expect that of everyone -- to run frenetically around for years. And I don't do frenetic very well."
- Fred
I appreciate the sentiment but I'm starting to wonder if he really has the "fire in his belly" that others here have talked about. I think perhaps he might end up being so low key that people just get bored and find someone new. Fred needs to jump in to the fire like everyone else and see what kind of metal he is made of.
"I know nothing except the fact of my ignorance"-Socrates(the real one ;)
With a target rich environment for critical review of every laudable subject Fred has recently provided through appearances, broadcasts and articles we see only inane discourse concerning pick-up trucks, previous manipulated legislation and meaningless idioms with only a single uninformed and self-impressed adversary on federalism...While the appeal for him grows exponentially.
I'll take a measured and correct response to the many critical issues we now face to someone with a "fire in the belly" of ambition anyday....all day long.

you will notice many Libtards speaking about Impeachment, but lack any real world evidence to bring it to court. Whatever they cannot find they make up or greatly exaggerate.
Then they used to whine and moan about the Republicans controlling congress so they couldn't impeach, but now that Democrats control congress they have no excuse for why they don't impeach. Just lacking any evidence that can be proven in court means they cannot start the impeachment. So now they are trying to get Cheney instead because of his Haliburton ties.
Fred Thompson does not have any dirt on him, he has kept himself clean. Despite being a Hollywood actor, he doesn't get into that Hollywood nonsense like substance abuse or abnormal behavior like the Liberal Actors and Actresses get into.
I think that Fred Thompson is trying to be the next Ronald Reagan, and we sure could use another Ronald Reagan in these modern times.
