I'll be the first to admit that Bill Clinton is an exceedingly effective political advocate. This story gives those who have been living in a cave for the past 16 years a hint as to how effective his advocacy is and can be.
Too bad it didn't see fit to quote any comments from his wife.
You remember his wife, right? She's actually the one running for President of the United States.

poll numbers and question who they are asking because they are not asking me because there is nothing that man could say that would make me like him or her. They are every thing that is wrong in this country.
(The sound of even a NY Times reporter listening to Hillary).

...how much people let themselves think that the President of the United States has any control over the economy. There are all kinds of really good reasons to choose one candidate over another, but whether the economy performs well or not isn't one of them.
I know all kinds of otherwise perfectly intelligent people who give Bill Clinton credit for the fact that there was a lot of economic optimism in the late Nineties. How about the fact that a huge amount of investors' money was flushed down the toilet, chasing chimeras? Well, that money touched a lot of ordinary people and made them feel optimistic on its way down the drain.

I read the article and tried to post a comment(no profanity or
Moveon.org syndrome)relating to the "real" 90's under Clinton,
contrasting that with the W Presidency.
Surprise!Surprise!Surprise!
My comment was not posted.
No inconvenient truth for the elite staff at the NYT's
The objective and all knowing NYT's must consider anything that does not
tow the Clinton line hate speech.
Happy Independence Day!

that Bill's comment on measuring success,
and certainly the fact that most economists now agree that the least recession "may have started in the last months of the Clinton administration rather than at the beginning of the Bush administration."
simply means that by Bill's own score book he didn;t do so well. Must have been that all powerful Karl Rove again.
