Starting to Lean Democrat For '08

If they keep up this "New Democrat" action, that is

Ok, now that I have your attention...I was just kidding of course, but think about this for a minute. In the wake of our GOP Political Heroes getting themselves un-elected over earmarks and "big" government Conservatism of epic proportion, our new majority is spending an awfully LARGE amount of time and energy looking for ever-newer and more creative ways to CUT spending. They keep this up and they may just find themselves a new fan club.

In the real world, even I appreciate that I may not get everything I want from my politicians and I have come to accept this truth. I can scream and yell and rant and rave and NOTING I do seems to effect the foolishness from the Democrats regarding Iraq. Nothing.

The more effort they put forth to seek out "cooler" ways to dance all over the Constitution in their quest to de-fund US troops(Okinawa Jack) or Iraqi troops(Billary) , however, the more hopeful I am they will eventually turn their newfound expertise back on themselves regarding other ridiculous spending nonsense right here at home.

More below the fold...

Hillary suggests (according to Amanda's way-excellent article at Human Events) this:

“I want to cut money for Iraqi troops. I want to cut the money that they get, because they’re not standing up and fighting the way that they said they would have.”

THAT, my friends, is delicious.

Let's consider cutting funding to Mexico, for example, because "they are not standing up and fighting the way they said they would" in keeping their people inside their own borders and improving their OWN country so the illegal immigration crisis could at least be reduced if not all together eliminated.

There's the Airline industry that we protected from bankruptcy by our intervention after 9/11. They promised, in getting this hand-out, that they would restructure, reorganize, and rebuild. They have not done so. Let's de-fund them.

Our Farmers promised to change the ways they conduct business. They promised to diversify. They promised to rotate crop selections, working more closely with the Dept. of Agriculture to make better choices according to regional weather issues and local demographics. They promised to improve the degree to which "Big" farms squeezed out the so-called "small family farms". They haven't. Let's de-fund them.

The Department of Education promised they would improve academic performance across the country. By implementing the no child left behind strategy, we were told our children (every one of them) would be engaged in academics, would improve their educational performance, and that their efforts at the State and Local levels would improve the lives of every one. They didn't, and it hasn't. Let's de-fund them.

When we dipped into our pockets to help our brothers and sisters in Louisiana and Mississippi and Alabama after the devastation of Katrina and Rita, we were promised total recovery, total reconstruction, and a thorough cleansing of the infrastructure especially problematic in the Big Easy. Today, many thousands of trailers sit idle, never used (some stuck in the mud still), while many thousands of families remain in surrounding cities and towns far removed from their homes and UNWILLING to return. Let's de-fund Blanco and Nagin because they aren't "fighting the way they said they would."

Welfare and Food Stamps and Unemployment payouts continue unabated. These entitlements, from their inception, were intended to give folks a "leg up"(temporarily) while they regrouped and until they got back on their feet. It is quite obvious that anyone on the welfare doles for a lifetime are clearly not "fighting the way they said they would," so we should de-fund them as well.

My personal favorite, the Prescription Drug entitlement has done none of what we were told it would do. Costs continue to rise, and our Political Heroes (in their infinite wisdom) are instead dallying in loosening cross-border restrictions for the purchase of prescription medication. It's quite clear that Congress, themselves, are not "fighting the way they said they would."

HEY, WAIT A MINUTE...can we de-fund Congress? Well, it was a thought.

This little rant is obviously satirically inclined, but is intended to highlight the absurdities of our "leaders" and Presidential hopefuls.

Our system of government was designed by a few people who were obviously a great deal smarter and wiser than these "cats" running the show today. Thank GOD we have a system that, in spite of a few nagging deficiencies in the area of sufficient vagueness open to interpretation, affords ALL of us the necessary protections from insanity and power-mongering.

As citizens we are forced to accept things, whether we like them or not, in the name of "majority rule. We have to get over it and move on with our more important purposes such as working and taking care of our families and ourselves.

Congress is just going to have to get over themselves. The Executive Branch has certain powers, no matter HOW much the Legislative branch cries and wails.

The Legislative would be better serving themselves were they to look for opportunities to govern US instead of spending all this time (wastefully) trying to govern the Executive. If they spent half as much time working to improve our lives as they do trying to RUIN President Bush's and those of the Iraqis, we may just actually grow to like these clowns...or at least appreciate them a bit more than we do just now.

Sounds to me like you are making a good case to vote libertarian. I agree. :)

Why are we funding Mexico--don't they have oil?

The guy I will support is the guy who steps up and says "enough is enough with the spending, things are going to change".

I really believe America is ready for someone who will fight this big spending we've spiraled down. Someone who will stop unnecessary handouts, politically motivated earmarks, and high taxes. A person who will say the best way to grow our economy is to ensure our citizens have more money in their pockets to spend.

I wasn't sure why this issue wasn't pushed harder at the most recent elections. I really believe there is a portion of this population (and the Republican party) that has been neglected when it comes to spending. I think that portion will be running to the polls when they have that viable option.

Conservatives (and Presidential Candidates especially) shall offer no aid and comfort to the opposition in times of legislative conflict (and ensuing political campaigns).
