Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-Ill.), the Democratic Caucus chairman, has told new Democratic members of Congress to steer clear of Stephen Colbert, or at least his satirical Comedy Central program, "The Colbert Report."

"He said don't do it ... it's a risk and it's probably safer not to do it," said Rep. Steve Cohen. But the freshman lawmaker from Tennessee taped a segment that last week was featured in the 32nd installment of the "Better Know a District" series. Colbert asked Cohen whether he was a black woman. He isn't.

I think we gathered that.

More:

Eyes (but thankfully, not heads) roll in Emanuel's office when other freshmen stumble, such as the time Rep. John Yarmuth (D-Ky.) got into a debate about the merits of throwing kittens into a wood-chipper, or when Rep. Zack Space (D-Ohio) explained that he is not his predecessor, convicted felon Bob Ney (R).

he's got a great show, lots of stupid questions, ham handedness and the usual dumb smugness that comes from thinking that asking questions is intelligent.

Rham the Bham isn't entirely wrong on this, why bother?
I do get vibes that RE is the brains behind Pelosi, who else is there and the old wretch needs plenty of surrogate gray matter.

"a man's admiration for absolute government is proportinate to the contempt he feels for those around him". Tocqueville

Washington almost entirely lacks humility. The vast majority of our politicians are smug, self-righteous jerks. Colbert makes light of their pomposity. He points out that these are not Socrates’ promised philosopher kings, but are rather ordinary people who are simply full of ambition and themselves.

I do think it’s funny. I think his poking fun at conservatives is funny. I like his smirky smirk, and self effacing humor. I think it’s a hell of allot more funny than John Stewart, who is not funny because he takes himself as seriously, and actually thinks he is making some important point with his comedy.
