Update: Barney Frank’s Multibillion-Dollar Slush Fund
Democrats defeat motion to put Barney out of business

The editors at National Review weighed in on Rep. Barney Frank's slush fund today, taking the Massachusetts Democrat to task for including in the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac reform bill a provision that "would pump money into the coffers of radical liberal activists." As I noted last week, a so-called “affordable housing fund” would allow Frank to direct millions of dollars, and potentially more, to liberal advocacy groups such as ACORN.
Today on the House floor, Rep. Eric Cantor (R.-Va.) attempted to kill the Barney Frank slush fund with a motion to recommit. Unfortunately, Democrats voted the motion down. However, in the process, Cantor forced several vulnerable incumbents to vote against disaster relief for their districts. It also forced all of them to vote against expanding the home mortgage insurance deduction. All to save a slush fund for Barney Frank.

That I would call killing an enlarged home mortgage deduction a victory.
Especially since it didn't kill the slush fund.
