Pelosi Screws It Up

The Road To Damascus Is Lined With Terror Victims

Even the Philadelphia Inquirer says "Pelosi was nuts to visit with Assad."

The Imperial Speaker was warned by the White House:

"We don't think it's a good idea," said White House spokeswoman Dana Perino. "This is a country [Syria] that is a state sponsor of terror, one that is trying to disrupt the Siniora government in Lebanon and one that is allowing foreign fighters to flow into Iraq from its borders."

[. . .]

"I'm not sure what she's hoping to accomplish there, I know that Assad probably really loves people to come and have a photo opportunity and have tea with him and have discussions about where they're coming from," Perino said, referring to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

"But we do think it's a really bad idea," she said.

The State Department also warned that Damascus typically used such visits as proof to the rest of the world that nothing was wrong with its policies. Read on ...

Yesterday the New York Sun reported that Pelosi, helped Syria to escape diplomatic isolation:

"We were very pleased with the reassurances we received from" Mr. Assad "that he was ready to resume the peace process," Ms. Pelosi said yesterday after meeting Mr. Assad. "He was ready to engage in negotiations [for] peace with Israel."

After meeting with Assad, Pelosi said the meeting "enabled us to communicate a message from Prime Minister Olmert that Israel was ready to engage in peace talks as well."

Unfortunately, that is where Pelosi screwed it up. Olmert "clarified" there was no such message for Pelosi to communication to Assad:

Although Israel is interested in peace with Syria, that country continues to be part of the axis of evil and a force that encourages terror in the entire Middle East. What was communicated to the U.S. House speaker does not contain any change in the policies of Israel, as was communicated to other foreign leaders.

For "serious and genuine" negotiations to begin, Mr. Olmert added, "Syria must cease its support of terror, cease its sponsoring of the Hamas and Islamic Jihad organizations, refrain from providing weapons to Hezbollah and bringing about the destabilizing of Lebanon, cease its support of terror in Iraq, and relinquish the strategic ties it is building with the extremist regime in Iran."

According to United Press International, Pelosi, said she had gone to Syria "in friendship, hope, and determined that the road to Damascus is a road to (Middle East) peace." Too bad Pelosi hasn't noticed, as pointed out by National Security Council spokesman Gordon Johndroe, that road is lined with the victims of Hamas and Hezbollah, victims of terrorists who cross from Syria into Iraq, victims in Lebanon trying to fight for democracy there, and victims in Syria trying for freedom and democracy.

RS Insider notes that the Democrats are feeling the heat from the Imperial Speaker's screw up and are mounting a feeble attempt to compare Pelosi's meeting with terrorists' supporters as the equivalent to Speaker Gingrich visiting China in 1997.

"In visiting Syria this week, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi no doubt meant well."

Never mind profanities, obscenities, scatalogical commentary or invective: 's/he meant well' is the most vicious insult in the English language.

If you don't believe me, think about it for a little while.

It depends on whether we can also call Newt Gingrich the Prelate of Palestine. As Speaker, didn't Newt also insert himself into foreign policy? See the following story:

It seems to me that this is not a new issue in Congressional vs. White House approaches to foreign policy, and a principled stand would include acknowledging that fact.

It is extraordinarily insensitive to constantly degrade those who disagree with you 'Sparky' in an effort to discredit them and their message.

I prefer 'Skippy' instead.

...what do you get when you put Jack Murtha's nose on Nancy Pelosi's face?

Gingrich took up for our ALLIES (i.e. Israel) when they appeared to be getting thrown under the bus by Clinton in his quest for a legacy (and IIRC Monica/Chinese fundraising etc.). I have no problem with any citizen standing up and drawing attention to this kind of foreign policy error.

To juxtapose the situation, nancy is propping up a ruthless dictatorship with clear ties to those who have openly declared war on the US and are, even as we speak, assisting in the deaths of our own soldiers and innocent civilians.

A significant difference, no?

I certainly hope it was worth it to her for her own personal self-arrgandizement, given the trouble it brings to the rest of the (relatively) Free World. And those fighting for personal liberty in that stalinist dictatorship. And the civilians to be killed by an energized hisb'allah in Lebanon. And the Iranians fighting the mullachracy in Iran. And the Iraqis fighting AQ in Iraq. And the Jews who will suffer more attacks by the Syrian supported terrorists.

Experiencing the ties that bind

Descriptive text here

Or do you just enjoy being spun by the corproate media and the wingnut freaks on AM radio?

Facts are:

1) Nancy had a republican in her delegation

2) Before Nancy and her delegation traveled to Syria, Republican-led delegation that met with Assad in Damascus on April 1, which included no less than 3 GOP House members.

Yet Pelosi and the Democrats are attacked for the visit and the Republicans that went are not. What gives? Could this just be partisan noise?

It would seem so.

From the AP:

"Three Republican congressmen who parted with President Bush by meeting with Syrian leaders said Wednesday it is important to maintain a dialogue with a country the White House says sponsors terrorism.

"This is an area where we would disagree with the administration," said Rep. Robert Aderholt of Haleyville. "It doesn't mean you're weak in your policy or that there's no problems ... We just wanted to let them know that the lines of communication are open and if we can find some common ground on some issues we need to go forward on that."

Wow, I like the way this guy spells out Nancy's trip to Syria.

Boy I wish that this would get some teeth!

Yeah right! LOL! No smoke. No fire. No indictments. Just partisan hacks viewing only one side of the story.

As opposed to your exercise in bipartisanship.

Of course, bipartisanship on Left consists of getting Communists and Socialists to agree on something...

We'll miss you. At least until you register another name. Then we'll miss your IP.

The other leftist definition of bipartisan is when both parties agree to the Democrat's legislation.

Her genius is to take San Francisco Values to both the Axis of Evil and their hostages.

and what he says means squat.

He is the formal head of state, the head of government is Ehud Olmert and he didn't support the trip.

You will also notice that the subject of the story is the way Pelosi delivered an imaginary message to Assad. If you'd bothered to read your link you would have seen that no one supports that.

your posts to date constitute trolling.

They aren't germane to the subject (see above) or, like your post on the Washington Post, are sheer fancy.

How this plays out is up to you but you've used up your quota of goodwill.

The most interesting thing that the Arab News reporter wrote in his piece:

"The most radical elements in the region liked Pelosi best if only because she endorsed their campaign of vilification against the Bush administration. Her motto was: Surrender before you have to, and claim credit for it! She represented a superpower that, because no one can take away anything from it, is prepared to give away everything."
