If you people think Ron Paul is the be all, end all of fiscal conservatism, why haven't you joined the anti-Calvert campaign and called to demand Ron Paul on Appropriations!

Put your dialing finger where your spam finger is.

In a post down a few.

I want him as top GOP position on appropriations, not just on the committee. I want him as chairman when the GOP wins the house back.

I have emailed this out as well.

Wouldn't that be a dream, Ron Paul on Appropriations. Of course, we would need to win back the House for it to truly mean something.

that Ron Paul isnt already on appropriations? The party of small government doesnt put the Representative of the smallest of small government on the committee that controls the size of government?

Makes you wonder (actually, it doesnt, I already knew) about their commitment to small government.

In 1996, Paul was reelected to Congress. In my home district, Northup won her 1st term in congress. As a freshman, what committee assignment was she given? Appropriations. What did she do with it? She became the Queen of Pork. It seems that even back in 1997, the GOP leadership couldnt figure out who belonged on what committee.

That you Erick for your effort to try to get rid of Rep Calvert. I'm not in Calvert's district, but I live right next door in CD 48(John Campbell). I'm a huge Ron Paul fan. Calvert's only distinguishing traits since he's been in Congress are his propensity for call girls, pork, and questionable land deals. The House GOP putting him on Appropriations is a bad metaphor for the way the GOP has ruled in Congress...lip service about small government and out of control pork/spending.

Powder Blue Report

Paul on House Appropriations... and someday Coburn on Senate Appropriations.

The extreme negative editorial comments against Ron Paul are very disappointing for this site. I have not been reading redstate for a couple of months but now that the debates are in full swing, I returned today to catch up on posts. Some of the official postings -- and the cartoon depiction -- are beneath this site and struck me more like Daily Kos postings than redstate. Interestingly, there seems to be considerable reader support for Ron Paul in the comments and that is wonderful. Ron Paul is a great candidate and he is what the GOP needs to shake up the debate and get back to ideas that matter. Yes, there is a lot at stake in 2008, but let's not win for the sake of winning. I have contributed to Rudy's campaign this cycle because I do believe he is the most electable -- but philosophically I am with Ron Paul. His comment last night was not despicable at all. The debate between him and Rudy was healthy.

but lets face it, the guy is a neoisolationist, and an extreme anti war guy. This is not the Democratic or Libertarian party, that just will not sell, period, deal with it.

You are right that Ron Paul won't sell. The US is a " WAR Economy". Many people in this country- NOT just in the military, depend on the war machine for their livelihood. We are also a nation that likes to think we are ethical, so war has to be "represented" as ..difficult..but ultimately for the greater good (whether it is or not.) The Democrats are in on it as well. Joe Biden, Joe Lieberman etc both live in states that depend heavily on military dollars. No major democrat is EVER seen at the anti-war rallies. Edwards (the handsome two-face) calls for anti-war jestures over Memorial Day weekend but has yet to show his good-lookin' mug at a Demonstration.

I will not even attempt to rebut that Chompsky rhetoric

The national discourse really needs another William F Buckley, Jr. He could entertain, Gore Vidal, Noam Chomsky and Allen Ginsburg..what made him great is that he respected the art of rhetoric and civilized discussion. When you make a statement like that how do you square that with your good natured "Christian charity"?

is you.

..classic. :)

it is sinister piffle, BTW why do you make the casual assumption that I am either Christian or charitable?

W F Buckley has more stamina and patience than I do.

I can't argue with that. My point of view is invalid yours is self-evidently correct. I agree discussion is not necessary.

the following things are NOT worthy of any real consideration by rational adults (key word adult)

1) National Socialism
2) Marxism
3) Chompskyism
4) Animal Rights
5) Conspiracy theories

If you ascribe to any of the above you are so far removed from reality It would be like debating the tooth fairy.

1. A woman can have a baby without haveing sex with a man (Christianity)
2. In a national crisis such as the Iraq war while American fighting men and women are risking their lives for our freedom, no American company may be able to profit from the conflict.
3. People may be held without trial if the President calls them a terrorist and enemy of the state.
4. Collateral damage is not "murder".

those arguments are indeed not worthy of any consideration. But you are quite the brainwashed little creature aren't you?

"Nothing works like freedom, Nothing succeeds like liberty"
Kyle

I am just trying to point out to you how arbitrary your statement is. I am NOT brainwashed my friend. I don't hold on blindly to anything. Any point of view I have is open to discussion. And likewise I respect my fellow citizens who may have differing attitudes on political questions.

read the FAQ, we are trying to hold a meeting place for mainstream conservative opinion, that means we will entertain subjects relevant to the current issues, you can be liberal here
and that is ok, but we do not have time for discussions like conspiracies and such, we leave those for DU and Daily Kos.
